Retrieving wreckage from AirAsia Flight To Singapore- no survivors recovered #3

It makes it all too real looking at these photographs. How difficult must it be for the families with all the conflicting reports that come to light via the media. I have just printed out some if the Reuters stories for our A320 Engineer to have a look at.

Thanks emirates! The only thing in this investigation that we 100% know to be true is that the story will change each day.

Here comes the inconsistent reporting. It gets frustrating to us when we dont know what to believe.

I can understand why investigators are hesitant to ever release anything until the final analysis is completed. It helps prevent inconsistencies like this.

When I read that latest article, if I am reading between the lines, it sounds like it is still possible one of the pilots may have tried to fix that FAC computer but they are not willing to say that yet because they want to do more investigation.
The earlier report had to have surfaced from somewhere. I think sometimes the inconsistencies are due to someone releasing information that they were not authorized to release yet.

Im willing to wait for the facts. It concerns me though if they are trying to say something did not happen when it actually did. If there is any possible truth to that earlier report, they could have been clearer to say that they have not been able to confirm that yet and just warn people not to listen to rumored reports until they release official findings.

The way this report came out is like they are denying it happened at all. Thats as bad as an early report being leaked when it maybe should not have. Now we are left wondering what to believe.

Your certainly right. Just spoke to one of the guys. He agreed by pulling the circuit breaker it means you now have an AC that you have complete control over. The only thing he said was 'how bizarre' couldn't fathom why he would leave his seat. As we have discussed the 'g' force would probably not allow such an action. Let's see what comes out tomorrow !!!!

DVI Team identifies four more victims.

Nanang Priyo Widodo (44) was travelling with his daughter, Florentina, to meet her boyfriend in Singapore. Mr Widodo shared a photo of he and his daughter on board the AirAsia flight on Facebook shortly before it disappeared, making it his profile picture. His daughter has not been identified yet.

At least there's some admittance by Rueters to the other story.

Investigators say no evidence AirAsia captain left his seat

snip

"Up until today, there is no indication yet that the captain left his seat as reported by Reuters," Ertata Lananggalih, an investigator with the National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC), told Reuters at the team's office in Jakarta, referring to the story published on Saturday.

I have a friend who is an A320 Pilot coming over for dinner Thursday night (that's if his not called off reserve). I'd be interested to know from an A320 Pilot fraternity what they make of this horrific accident.

More people have been found today (Tuesday). This is in addition to the people found yesterday. They now have remains of just over 50% of the people on the flight.

Indonesian searchers found six more bodies from AirAsia Flight 8501 Tuesday after resuming operations over the weekend, bringing the number of recovered bodies to 89 of the 162 people aboard ..

The AirAsia flight QZ8501’s emergency locator transmitter (ELT) has reportedly been found in waters near Mamuju, West Sulawesi, during search operations conducted in the area.

..... in addition to the bodies (the article speaks of one possibly being a child), locals had also found objects thought to be sections of the crashed AirAsia aircraft, including seats, aircraft cabin, fiber-made interiors, as well as a box with antennas emblazoned with the words, "emergency locator transmitter".

“On Sunday, a local fisherman found the ELT in waters near a beach in Mamuju regency. It seems the ELT can no longer function, however,” Muhammad said.

As the transmitter no longer functions, however, it is unlikely that authorities will be able to determine the QZ8501’s final position before the crash.

No problems at all Hatfield. If I had my way I'd keep him for a week. It will be like the Spanish inquisition.....poor thing.

Have you seen the photos and videos of this plane crash that happened tonight they are unbelievable. R.I.P all on board and they and the survivors are in my prayers.

'At least nine have been killed as 17 others, including two children, have so far been rescued in a plane crash on Wednesday.

Terrifying footage of the accident has emerged of the passenger plane with 58 people on board plunging into a river near Taiwan's capital Taipei.

Dozens are believed to be trapped inside the TransAsia Airways plane while rescued passengers have been sent to hospital, The Straits Times reports.

The ATR 72-600 turboprop domestic flight clipped a road bridge before crashing into the Keelung River, according to other reports.'

Union wants Air Asia Indonesia banned from Australia until after investigation.

'The TWU said that Indonesia AirAsia should be banned until CASA could conduct a full audit of its operations. Federal secretary Tony Sheldon demanded greater transparency over the cause of the crash, saying the flying public had a right to know if pilot training was a factor.

"We want to see greater transparency and do not want to have to wait several months before an official report from Indonesia is made public," he said.

Mr Sheldon said there were concerns that the preliminary report had not been made public but information leaked out "appears to question pilot training".

"Passengers flying in Australia must be able to make informed choices about the airline they travel with," he said."

You know, god bless the local fisherman. They have been called out and are working in tandem it appears with an organized SAR search. How dare my country quit after 30 days searching for anyone (I know..). Very proud of all of them. jmo

Just watching it now. ATR 72 are the same type of AC Virgin Airlines run regionally. We also have Engineers who work on turbo props - will be interested to hear their comments. It's amazing how some people can walk away with a bloody face while others perish, very, very sad Greg.

Oh my goodness. I saw on CNN last night. Incredible

If you watch the propellers they dont look like they were turning very much at all. I think the engine must have failed altogether and it dropped like a rock. The pilot did an incredible job of hanging a left turn right at the very end. Watch as he avoids the building right before he hit the van. He flew it between some buildings. WOW

The van did not know what hit him. The wing came down on him out of nowhere. I hope the people in the van are OK. Its amazing to get the footage of what happened. At least we know how it came down.

The search for victims and wreckage of AirAsia flight QZ8501, which crashed on Dec 28 during its journey from Surabaya to Singapore, has been expanded northwards to the Makassar Strait in Donggala regency, Central Sulawesi.

The move came after fishermen in Pinrang regency, South Sulawesi, reportedly found two bones thought to be from human feet and more aircraft parts on Wednesday.

The bones were found by different fishermen in separate places along the Suppa district coastline, Pinrang, some 950km from the site in the Karimata Strait where the plane with 162 people on board had crashed.

Fauzan Mahmud of the joint search and rescue team said the first bone was found at about 8am local time not far from the beach. The second bone was found at about 10am the same day in Wiringtasi subdistrict, Suppa. An Adidas trainer was attached to the bone.

I had my A320 Pilot friend over for dinner last night he is a First Officer with Jetstar which is the low cost offshoot of Qantas (in the industry that would be Quick And Nasty Typical Australian Service). He hadn't followed the story and only knew bits and pieces. Sorry guys I will have to put it in my not so technical terminology. After many drinks last night I'll do my best !!!! Firstly he said that they should not have been so close to a cat 5 storm. At Jetstar they would remain clear of electrical activity by at least 20 miles. He also agreed Indonesian aviation safety is lack lustre and has nowhere near the standards we uphold in Australia, not to mention many other countries. The major circuit breakers/switches are above the Capt's head in easy reach. Apparently behind the F/O are tens upon 10's of circuit breakers. At no stage in this particular phase of flight could the Capt get out of his harness and select a circuit breaker, in particular the right one. Two switches above the Capts head should have been pulled/switched on which puts the A/C into ALT LAW, which still has the ability to counteract high speed with auto speed protection. He did say that the Pitot tubes could have been a problem as well. Apparently when Airbus have an accident all Airbus owners will receive (can't remember the term) an advisory. Airline operators will not receive an advisory if it is Pilot error. He did say that if this A/C was caught in an updraft he thought it would have been the down draft that sent them into a super stall. Upon saying that he said if they were at 30,000 there should have been enough time to recover from this event. I can't remember if he said it was the FDR or the CVR that can simply be plugged (into some thingy !!!) and data can be retrieved immediately - I think it was the CVR. He was quite sure that a box was sent to Canberra for analysis. As for the emergency slide, this can only be activated once the A/C has depressurised. Once the A/C tail section broke off this would have depressurised the A/C which would lend weight to the slide being deployed. He was interested to know if the tail section was marginally intact (which I believe it was) - this also leant theory to a stall.

Oh newone I so wanted to. Not the right time, we worked closely together a number of years ago so I didn't want to totally bombard him, but I'm working on it.

Thanks, emirates! :seeya:

So the capt could have disconnected the no-brainer flight systems right from his seat, and taken control of the plane. (Well, the media got it ½ right.) Yet the capt may have allowed the 2nd officer to continue flying the plane, at least for a little while. Maybe the peril they were in wasn't immediately apparent - or he wanted to give the 2nd officer the opportunity to correct the issues under his instruction. The younger ones have to learn somehow.
