Retrieving wreckage from AirAsia Flight To Singapore- no survivors recovered

The Indonesian Vice President is answering questions in a press conference right now. Nothing new really, expressing hope, ensuring continued search efforts etc. Regarding the floating objects he said, it has not been confirmed.

They should be able to take photos of those objects and have them identified quite quickly, as they did with MH370.

14m ago - Kirsten Han who is in Changi airport for the Guardian says next-of-kin have been separated from the press and the public, and airport staff are being tight-lipped about what is going on in the private holding area.

A media statement is expected at 6pm local time (10am GMT).

She says that earlier there had been a short presentation by the Ministry of Transport’s Air Accident Investigation Bureau displaying the underwater locator beacon detectors that are ready to be deployed.

They hope that these detectors will be able to pick up the acoustic signal from the underwater beacon on QZ8501’s flight recorder. The beacon is meant to transmit this acoustic signal for 30 days.

And this guy is the source about the oily spots.

Air Force spokesman Rear Marshal Hadi Tjahnanto told MetroTV that an Indonesian helicopter in the eastern part of Belitung island spotted two oily spots on the sea ...

Hi SA……they would be looking through all of their training records regarding the Capt and FO. Their simulator records would be checked along with their line flying competencies. Check and Training Pilots would have been asked about their competencies as well. I know with our Pilot's - if you don't make the grade your out - no second chances with this line of work. Engineering log books would also be checked - along with engineering checks as to the number of cycles done by the A/C to make sure their engineering checks coincide with the number of cycles the aircraft has done. When crew board their aircraft there are many checks they need to be performed to ensure that the aircraft is airworthy. Cabin crew would be doing the same thing. Let's hope that their book work matches the aircraft.

.....not enjoying a sinus event and went down for a bit and am now up and surprised that there has been zero. I am moving more and more toward a complete and total disintegration 5 miles up as a result of a down draft or updraft that just shredded the thing mid air. Instant disintegration, black box problem if this is the situation tho. Just pondering under the influence of sinus drugs -- who knows maybe this is all a bad dream and everyone is fine.

If I tell any of you shortly I found it ,do not believe me I am eating more sinus crap at this time. My spelling and typing are hideous absent of substances - so we could be in for an interesting post or two excelling my superior typing and spelling skill set! ha

An object spotted during a sea search for an AirAsia plane wasn't from the aircraft, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla says.

"It has been checked and no sufficient evidence was found to confirm what was reported," Mr Kalla told a press conference at Surabaya airport from where the ill-fated plane departed.

Many fishermen from Belitung island have joined in the search, and all vessels in that area of the sea have been alerted to be on the lookout for anything that could be linked to the plane.

I'm not an overly tinfoil-hat type of person, but actually, when you think about it, two airliners going missing - vanishing - in the timeframe and in a broadly similar geographical location, is weird.

I suppose we need to rethink our mindset about the 'certainties' of air travel. I would never have contemplated a commercial airliner going missing before MH370.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott …….“I think it would be a big mistake to equate what happened here with MH370” Abbott told Sydney radio station 2GB after budget airline AirAsia said a flight carrying 162 people was missing.

“MH370, as things stand, is one of the great mysteries of our time. It doesn’t appear that there is any particular mystery here”.

“It’s an aircraft that was flying a regular route on a regular schedule, it struck what appears to be horrific weather, and it’s down. But this is not a mystery like the MH370 disappearance and it's not an atrocity like the MH17 shooting down”.

It's only day two. Bad weather is hampering the search efforts. I don't think at this point one can call it 'vanishing'.
After weeks of search and no sign, I would call it vanishing.

My feeling is they will find the plane, or parts of it. Just a gut feeling.
