GUILTY RI - Evelyn Burgos, 40, & Vaness Perez, 25, Johnston, 11 Aug 2013

Earlier on Sunday, Deputy Chief Daniel Parillo said witnesses saw C fleeing the scene of a double homicide early Sunday with Perez.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/08/11/amber-alert-rhode-island/2640275/

So they saw him fleeing but there is no vehicle description?
So our evidence is that witnesses identified him?
And they used his DMV picture... so they didn't have a recent mugshot handy.
I'm going to hold out hope that this guy isn't guilty. It's better for the baby that way. :twocents:

He could have been fleeing out of shock and fear too. Not all AA people expect equal treatment when it comes to LE (for good reason), he could have been afraid that they would think exactly what they did.

FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — Police: Suspect in 2 RI killings, kidnapping is captured in Mass., toddler is still missing.

Looks can deceive, but from his picture, this guy just does not appear to be the cold blooded, calm, calculating type that it would take to walk into work after a double homicide. I wonder if he has been framed. Time will tell, but police are not that easily duped. Once they get a chance to talk to this man, it will be interesting to see if they go back to the witnesses for more detailed information. Sadly, I don't think this will turn out as well as Hannah's case. Hope I'm wrong on that.

It'd really help to know who the child's father is... and if there were any other possible fathers.
That is generally where you start in a case like this...
It's possibly he dropped the child off with someone else to babysit while he went to work.
But really... that just seems crazy. Double murder + abduction = RUN. Not go to work.

Rhode Island State Police: #Amber Alert for Isaih Perez is still active.

I was thinking the same. He kills 2 people, kidnaps a child, and then goes to work?
I hope LE didn't have bogus info on the suspect.

Could also be a way for someone whos...not so bright...to make an "alibi".

"How could I have done it. See, I'm right here at work!" or "If I show up to work tomorrow, they'll never know it was me!"

"How could I have done it. See, I'm right here at work!" or "If I show up to work tomorrow, they'll never know it was me!"

But it was TODAY... this double homicide and abduction occurred TODAY.
So in like 8 hours, he kills 2 people, abducts a 2 year old and goes to work?
I know, anything is possible but that seems totally unlikely to me. :twocents:

Especially because he likely would have had a phone call from a friend/family by that point saying "WTF?!"
There was an Amber Alert, it was all over the news... not to mention, when did he GET to work?
Did LE even go to his work to see if he was there, or did work call them?

LE arrested Ariel Castro's brothers on outstanding charges to make sure they didn't go anywhere, thinking they were involved in the kidnappings, and they were wrong about that. This arrest could be incorrect, too. Eyewitnesses may have seen someone who looked similar to Crowell fleeing with Isaih, and since Crowell lived with him, assumes it was Crowell. Easy mistake to make. This man is in a bad situation if he did not do this.

Massachusetts State Police spokesman Dave Procopio originally indicated C was arrested in Fall River, but later said the suspect taken in to custody is not believed to be involved in the abduction.

So does that mean they did NOT arrest M?
Or that they DID arrest M but he is not believed to be involved?
Clarification people... WHO should people be looking for?

My guess is that they arrested him on some charge (maybe even an outstanding ticket that has been unpaid or some such thing) and they are now thinking he could not have kidnapped the child from information they have gotten. JMO.

This one says he was apprehended.

This one says he was arrested at his workplace.

Well, it's 3:30 there.... it's afternoon!

Massachusetts police: Suspect taken into custody not believed to be involved in Rhode Island abduction - @wpri12 http://bit.ly/1cXbZEV

WHO is the suspect taken into custody?!

I think he was arrested but managed to have a solid alibi and they were simply wrong

What Channel 5 is reporting:

Massachusetts State Police say the suspect in a double homicide and kidnapping in Rhode Island has been captured, but the toddler is still missing.

State police spokesman Dave Procopio said Malcolm Crowell, 22, of Providence, was taken into custody Sunday afternoon in Fall River after a nationwide Amber Alert was issued for 2-year-old Isaih Perez. The Amber Alert for Perez remains active.

So we either have a double murder and a missing toddler with no suspect, or MC is still the suspect and he was not the person taken into custody?

Confuddled

He was taken into custody. It sounds like they're starting to think he's not the person they want.

  • #38
So there has been a double murder and an abduction and we do not have a suspect or any idea of who has taken the child. :(

  • #39
The one clear thing is that the suspect in custody is not believed to be involved.
However, LE has not confirmed WHO the suspect in custody is.
Everyone logically assumed it was the guy they had been looking for. Which is likely.

That is what we are waiting on. WHO did they arrest?
The guy they wanted, but he's not the right guy?
Or did they arrest another guy they THOUGHT was M?

They certainly are not coming out and saying:
"We are still looking for M" or "we are looking for this guy instead."

They are losing precious time here... WHO is Isaih supposed to be with?
If you don't know, then ask for tips on the homicide. But get the information OUT there. :banghead:

Jeez, can you imagine showing up at work like usual on a normal day and getting ARRESTED for killing two people and abducting a toddler? Yikes!

Hopefully this debacle hasn't distracted LE from finding the real perp and - more importantly - Isaih.
