RI - Mass Shooting at Brown University - Providence 13 Dec 2025

"The release of the lone person of interest
leaves law enforcement without a known suspect,
with officials pledging to redouble efforts in the investigation
by canvassing for video surveillance that could help identify the gunman."

PS
The person in CCTV looks much older than 20+year-old to my eyes.
Besides,
what he shouted before the attack is the key IMO.
The motive - which could lead to the perp.

The suspect in the video may have a left leg prosthetic. Notice how he fails to flex his left leg, instead rolling it forward. He
Might have been injured at Brown and now
Took revenge. I think this gait is very alarming.
I think that is what tells you this is him- he has a long gun down the leg of his pants causing him to walk that way.

Where have we seen that before? (rhetorical)

If he has stuffed a long rifle down his trouser leg, then I can't imagine he's walked very far like that. It would suggest he's parked his car somewhere nearby.

I was curious how the age description went from 30s to the person that was detained. He was so young looking and even with a face partially covered I wouldn't say he could be thought to be in his 30s. I hope the real suspect is caught soon.

Well well well…..

I wouldn’t be attending class or even on campus until this person is arrested.

This is some kind of scary.

WOW, this is pretty shocking. What a horrible experience for this young man. Now his name and picture have been spread around. Lawsuit??

He was not charged!
And LE didn't name him.
Media did.
Sure...."quoting unnamed sources".

So...
I'm pessimistic as I wrote earlier :(

Wasn't this guy the second one to be treated as person of interest?
The first one was released quite quickly, no?

It seems nobody at the Uni recognized the attacker.

And so much for CCTV all over the place!

Exactly. Somebody leaked the name. Who?

LE didn't deny or confirm that the person named by the media was the person they questioned. Either LE leaked it or maybe the person who submitted the tip or possibly a hotel worker or amateur sleuth who listens to scanners or follows LE around (i.e. "Nightcrawler").

Yes, I'm wondering if someone at the hotel or a fellow guest (if he's been staying there awhile and made friendly banter with others) gave info to reporters.

Still, CNN was on scene at the arrest. Maybe they heard on a scanner or maybe it was a leak.

I realize LE isn't perfect, but this was a big deal.

How did CNN get his name though? That's not usually put out on the scanner.

I'm pretty sure they said CNN personnel were staying at that hotel and woke up to the activity. They may have gotten info from hotel employees about who was staying in that particular room.

All the posts on here concerning the person of interest have been deleted, so I can't go back and check, but I'm sure it was a case of 'sources, on condition of anonymity have told...' a particular media company that the person arrested was called xxxxx. In which case the name would have been leaked to them by somebody in LE, in which case you would hope they're for the high jump!

Shades of Moscow with an unsolved, high-profile multiple murder happening right before the holiday. Sigh. These poor kids.

I saw a photo yesterday of a professor giving "free mom hugs." (I can't find it now.) That would be me right now, heaven forbid it ever happens at my campus--but let's be honest. It happens everywhere.

A person of interest identified in Saturday’s mass shooting at Brown University will be released from custody, authorities said late Sunday, sparking a manhunt for the killer.

“Evidence now points in a different direction,” Gov. Dan McKee said at a news conference Sunday night.

The 24-year-old man was detained Sunday morning, three senior law enforcement officials told NBC News. On Sunday night, officials said there was no longer a reason to keep him in custody in connection with the shooting, which killed two students and wounded nine other people at the Ivy League school...

Every main stream media outlet put his name out there. They wouldn't do that unless it was a leak from a "credible" source, at least a person in a position where they should have been credible, and you know, competent.

You don't send a swat team into a random hotel unless you have something more than an inkling. This is a huge miss right from the decision to detain him in the first place.

I expect a few months from now, we'll get behind-the-scenes info about what how it happened. And, it will be disappointing but not necessarily surprising info. jmopinion

Agree 100%
Absolute lawsuit with big pay out.
They divulged SO much about him- photo of handsome young man, Wisconsin native, military training, scope on his weapon and etc.
How horrifying to do this to an innocent man.
Yikes!!!!
