RI - Mass Shooting at Brown University - Providence 13 Dec 2025

  • #1,001
Hardest question he’s been asked is if Providence is safe. They can’t lock down the city indefinitely. They are doing everything possible, but obviously families are going to have a conversation as to what’s right for them. They are doing everything they can to provide reassurance and comfort, especially since next week will be even busier because of the holidays.

Presser Notes:

Believes second person has important information. Asking people to call with tips, or for this person themselves to come forward.

Warning people to avoid AI generated images

My take: people take these grainy photos and have Grok or whatever "enhance" them. That's not a real thing.
^^^^^^^^bbm^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This bears repeating. Don't share "enhanced" photos. Only share what LE has released.

It was said that they have not retrieved any items of interest, but they did say they have "physical" evidence.
What would be the difference?

  • #1,004
They have nothing that suggests it was specific person motivated. That could change but nothing suggests that at this time.

I think physical evidence being at the initial scene of the shooting. Not retrieving any items of interest probably means alone the route or if people call in to say something is here or LE canvasing areas haven't found anything like the black mask, a weapon, a bag, other clothing items, etc.

Surely someone will recognize Person #2.

Fingers crossed.

Someone has to know or believe they do of who the 2nd person is. I say because if this person is a student, then they also attended classes and so on with them. The person I would so think has also seen all the vid's and news of this and sounds of course as they have not contacted LE to say, hey, that's me. That's the thing of 'interest'. I am assuming myself there really isn't a connection, just a walker around the neighborhood, school attendee, which would be absolutely expected to be seen out and about. I thought it was unusual that MORE people aren't out walking around to and fro. Key to me is that they have not contacted LE, they also may live out of state or country, tho if just in USA, they may not of actually watched tv news on this or had their attention drawn to it by someone else that knows them.
Why would the first suspect RUN, oh so fluidly, oddly enough, away from this person seemingly. Of course the other person could catch up with them, well maybe. Running away is odd unless he did not want to be seen WITH them. The 2nd person could of probably found him, as not far ahead, but it was shown the first person alone after. All so disjointed thoughts all around, everywhere. To me, the original POI is an oddball type of person it seems to begin with, looking all overweight and odd body shaped. The stop and locking hands behind his self is just not a young or youngish guy thing to do. It just reminds me of an older European. I think people who do know him will be shocked as thought of him as an oddball, dorky kind of person. Just all IMO and I so wish they would get him safely away from anyone else.

It’s still unknown if the person of interest is affiliated with Brown University, police chief says

From CNN's Maureen Chowdhury
Authorities still do not know if the person of interest is affiliated with Brown University, Providence Police Chief Oscar L. Perez Jr. said.

“Yeah, at this point, it is unknown to us,” Perez said. “It’s unknown to us where this person works. It’s unknown to us if he was an affiliate of Brown. That’s all unknown to us,” Perez said.

Perez directed reporters to the images authorities have released and said they hope to eventually learn more about the person and their background.

This is getting weirder by the minute in a very unsettling way.
They need to find these people now. They are up to no good, and I doubt they’re done.

I don’t think there was a direct hand-off, at least. The timing is wrong for that. I think there was probably some sort of other interaction they had (one chasing the other, for instance) that leads police to wonder… well, why?
And why would you need a hand-off in the first place? I don't understand what the purpose would be. He could bring anything he needed with him, why do a hand-off so close to the scene of the shooting?

I hope this isn't another case of suspicion being pointed at a random, uninvolved person.

Especially with next week being busier than ever with crowds everywhere.

Perhaps a change of clothes or something similar. I will say that I wondered if there was a hand off if the person in the recently released photo was the person chasing the POI in the video as it seems like the bag style seemed change/get smaller between the video and the photo still - and because the POI seems to have a bag in some stills but not others - but I agree with m00cow that the timing doesn't align.

It might be an uninvolved person, yes. My take on LE passing around the photos - especially so soon after the wrong ID - is that they're either deeply desperate or there's some video/image they haven't released which shows the two communicating. There's other witnesses that passed the POI on the street (including one that got a good look at him and seemed to hurry up in the video after seeing him - possibly creeped out by him?) where they haven't had images released. This could be a case of the person in question coming forward, but they seem really focused on this one individual.

If the suspect and new person whose image they released today worked together, it makes no sense to me why the second person was not also wearing a mask.

Yep.
The alleged suspect seems to me a real weirdo
Real "piece of work".
Loitering, looking upwards, looking over the fences, pretending to walk nonchalantly, passing Police officers, etc

I am more convinced this is a woman and I see a hoodie up over what might be a hijab. Looks like glasses also.
i honestly can't decide. hips, handbag, and possible hijab => woman. shoulders, hands, and chin => man.

i realize this might be offensive in any of several ways. it's not meant to be, and i hope i'm not crossing any lines.

"Enhanced" photos are not from LE. Do not use them or pay attention to them, as warned in the LE press conference today.

LE has released photos.

That looks like an Arab Women in that new tweet. And should easily be identified too.
I also think the person is wearing a hijab.

But... I think that is is worth adding the following:

- Wearing a hijab would not necessarily make her ethnically Arab. In the end, "Arab" and "Muslim" are not synonyms as there are millions of Arab Christians.

- Most Muslims are not Arabs and do not speak Arabic. Ethnic Arab coloration can vary greatly. For example, levant Arabs, both Christian and Muslim, often appear as southern Europeans. Ditto for Algerians and many Libyans. Other Arab populations, however, can be darker.

Though judging nationality by appearance is risky, this woman appears to be darker than most Arabs. If I would hazard a guess, I would say darker complected Pakistani, or Indian / Bengali.

Eyewitness accounts of shooter match description of person of interest police are seeking, chief says

From CNN's Cindy Von Quednow

Eyewitness accounts of the gunman involved in shooting at Brown University match the description of the person of interest police are seeking in connection with the incident, Providence Police Chief Oscar L. Perez, Jr. said during a news conference Wednesday.

The chief’s affirmative response came after a reporter asked whether survivors of the shooting, which took place inside a classroom, described the person of interest as the shooter, or whether the physical description of the gunman is similar to the person of interest they are seeking.

“That’s correct, yes, they have,” Perez answered.

Authorities won’t stop searching until they capture shooting suspect, police chief says

From CNN's Emma Tucker

Authorities will not stop searching for the suspect in Saturday’s mass shooting at Brown University until they find them, said Providence Police Chief Oscar L. Perez Jr. at a news conference.

The intensive manhunt has continued for five days, and could extend into six days, but an investigation of this nature is “going to take time,” said Perez.

“A person is going to get caught. We’re going to do our jobs and we’re not going to stop until we do… It could be tomorrow, but we’re not stopping until we find them,” the police chief continued.

When is the last time a mass murderer just faded away into to background at all.
I don’t ever remember that happening. Usually they are killed or arrested on the spot., no matter whether they are terrorists or mentally ill, or whatever reason they did it.
It’s just all weird.

Wonder if we’ve got a husband and wife situation, like San Bernardino.
What do you mean? Why do you say that? Please be specific.
