WPRI is reporting that the second person has been located and interviewed.

Whatever the motive, if the two cases are connected, or even if they aren't, I hope they find the guy soon before he attacks more professors and students!

When the MIT professor was killed, I thought the cases were connected. Terrible what some people are capable of, ruining so many lives and taking away our best and brightest.

I said it a few pages back and I’m reiterating it, they have a problem with loose lips in this department. I’ve never seen anything like it. But I knew the first suspect was being released hours before because a cops girlfriend got on Reddit and spilled DNA didn’t match a few hours later that’s exactly what happened. I think that’s why everyone is saying this case is so weird. It is, but I think it’s because their is no control over information in that department, respectfully.
Quite. The New York Times specifically says that they got the information that the suspect had been identified from people not authorised to speak about the investigation!

In other words, things are leaking like a sieve.

From a lawyer's perspective, I'm so curious how things went down when that initial person of interest was in custody. Did he talk, which conventional wisdom says you're not supposed to do? Did he manage to get a private lawyer in that timeframe? Did he not talk and LE found the exonerating evidence themselves?

Without intending to finish diminish how traumatizing that must have been for that person, I don't know enough yet to criticize law enforcement vs praising them for keeping an open mind and pivoting relatively quickly when warranted, despite the public embarrassment that would result. They had enough evidence to get a search warrant, and obviously, ignoring evidence that rises to the probable cause standard would have gotten them criticised too. Releasing his name was obviously a mistake, but may have been one rogue person who did that. It was never officially released.

I'm on pins and needles to know if it was the gray Nissan with FL plates spotted behaving suspiciously in front of the Rhode Island Historical Society by the Reddit commenter!
It does appear to be a Nissan Sentra based on the police scanner and posts above. 👀

The MA state police helicopter returned to its home base airport in Plymouth. Take with that what you will. Either things have wrapped up and it's not needed anymore or it's fueling to continue in the search.

If this is the actual shooter, massive props to the person who took note of the suspicious behavior, remembered the details about the car, and contacted the FBI.

I read somewhere, can't remember where now...so I will say IMOO, the 2nd person was key and is a homeless person. I'm not sure if the homeless person is the one on the reddit post or not.

I’m in Providence at police HQ - multiple reports now that police have identified the Brown University shooter. Also possible link to the MIT professor murder. Waiting on official update. I saw the Governor arrive here a short while ago.

I’m so very curious what happened with the initial suspect. I have more questions and concerns about that than I do anything.

Was he involved and they let him go on a technicality…. Was he not involved at all in that case, excuse me what? How does that happen?

Not sure this was posted regarding the man in proximity to the POI. They are indeed a man, and they spoke to LE regarding what they saw. https://www.wpri.com/target-12/poli...een-in-proximity-to-brown-u-shooting-suspect/

"The man told police he approached the unidentified suspect and questioned what he was doing there, at which point the individual ran off, sources said."
yup, was just reading this. also...
He subsequently contacted police and source said the interview has helped law enforcement better understand how the shooting unfolded. His name isn’t being disclosed at this time, source said.

Message from Brown University President Christina H. Paxson: Mourning the loss of two beloved students. On Saturday, Dec. 13, Brown lost two members of its community to an act of unimaginable and senseless violence. Ella Cook and MukhammadAziz Umurzokov were two young people whose amazing promise was extinguished much too soon.

The lives of MukhammadAziz Umurzokov and Ella Cook were cut short Saturday when a gunman opened fire inside a classroom in the engineering building. Nine others were wounded before the gunman fled.

Yeah, what happened to suspect him? I really hope - on top of everything else he's going through in terms of trauma - he wasn't in the building when the shooting occurred.

Sadly false arrest happens ALL THE TIME!! The fact this innocent young man's name and face was plastered everywhere is criminal, and seriously hope he sues. A worthy lawsuit!!

Agreed, too close in time, proximity and fields to not question whether a connection is likely.
