RI - Mass Shooting at Brown University - Providence 13 Dec 2025

I assume we will get an ID at the press conference if the suspect really is in the wind at this point. If they’re continuing to follow leads, probably won’t get an update until they either lose the trail or he’s captured.
Yup. It all comes down to if they are hot on his trail or not. I'm surprised his name hasn't leaked yet. A lot of people in LE would likely be aware of it by now.

"abandoned"....I sure hope this POI hasn't been checking the news, which I suspect he has. Ditched the car.
I think the news was a bit premature.
I’m hoping that he stopped for a bathroom break, realized LE was onto him, and then fled on foot since that would mean he would still be in the area. There is a large parking lot and storage facility at the mall so theoretically he could have stashed a second vehicle there but IMO that seems highly unlikely since it seems he used the same vehicle for both the Brown and MIT shootings.

WCVB reporting live that the search now includes New Hampshire.
One of those same news helis that was circling near Brockton flew directly up to an area just across the state line into NH along I-93 near the Mall at Rockingham Park where it circled for sometime. It's now landed in Lawrence, MA (refueling?).

This part of the reporting is actually quite curious…. I would absolutely like to know more about that interaction.
I'm very curious about Person #2's interaction with #1 too. We'll find out soon, I think/hope.

I don't know if anyone is watching the AP stream, but I'm hearing interesting bits of conversation, but it's difficult to catch anything complete. I heard "former student" but then "0%". I'm not sure if anyone caught that.

EDIT: I think the guy I'm hearing on the stream is mostly just complaining about a variety of subjects.

I hope they have extra security at Dartmouth just in case. If he abandoned that car even 24 hours ago, he could be well on his way wherever else he might have intended to go. IMO

I go to the exact area of NH where this was found quite often. This is surreal

Nuno Loureiro was from Viseu, and the area was popular with the Jewish community during the Medieval Period in Portugal, I haven't seen any evidence that he and his family are Jewish, but it is possible. Portugal had a sizeable Jewish community during the Medieval Period. Fun fact, actress Daniela Ruah was born in Massachusetts but was mostly raised in Portugal and her father is portuguese and Jewish, so not that uncommon. If Israel is actually looking into it being an hate crime, then is 100% involved with the Jewish Community to some degree.

As I posted yesterday on the MIT Professor's thread, Israel did indeed seem to be looking into the case and whether Iran was involved or not. I don't think they'd look into it if Professor Loureiro wasn't Jewish, or at least a vocal supporter of Israel.

Israeli officials are examining intelligence from recent days that suggests an Iranian connection to the murder of Prof. Nuno Loureiro, a senior nuclear scientist at MIT, who was shot dead in his home in Brookline, Massachusetts, on Monday evening.

The article also says he was a vocal supporter of Israel.

There is a "I stand with Israel" sign in his building, although it might belong to another neighbor.

admittedly, there's some ambiguity in how the quote is being relayed through 3 or 4 degrees of separation. are we to understand that person 2 told police "i asked him what he was doing there", or "i asked him 'what are you doing there?' ." in the first case, it sounds like they knew each other, and person 2 expected suspect to be somewhere else. in the second case, it sounds like they didn't necessarily know each other, person 2 may just have been stepping up and confronting someone who seemed sketchy.
This. Some stories are using the word “confronted” and some are saying he “questioned”, and still others said the witness simply “asked” the suspect what he was doing there.

All three connote slightly different levels of suspicion/hostility… and at the moment it feels unclear why the person engaged the suspect.

"We know who it is, he's still on the loose but we're not telling the public his identity" is absolutely wild.

My family is Portuguese and we are Sephardic Jews. Not saying this is the case, but makes me wonder.

Police have interviewed man believed to have been “in proximity” to person of interest

From CNN's Brian Todd

A man who was believed to have been “in proximity” to a person of interest being sought by police in connection with the Brown University shooting has been found and interviewed by law enforcement, Providence Police Major David Lapatin told CNN.

“He’s not a suspect,” Lapatin said.

The major did not elaborate on what was discussed during the interview.

Should be the case, it would make the most sense.

Dumb Question: Why do authorities in the Brown shooting believe there’s a connection to the murder of the MIT professor? (Or vice versa) Thank you.

What we know right now is media has reported the rental car from the Brown homicide may be consistent with a vehicle associated with the MIT homicide.

Same vehicle

The possible connection is the suspect's vehicle potentially having been spotted in both places, IIRC
