As I posted yesterday on the MIT Professor's thread, Israel did indeed seem to be looking into the case and whether Iran was involved or not. I don't think they'd look into it if Professor Loureiro wasn't Jewish, or at least a vocal supporter of Israel.
Israel examines if Iran had role in killing of scientist | The Jerusalem Post

The article also says he was a vocal supporter of Israel.
‘This is an assessment that has not yet been verified and is not supported at this stage by official findings from the investigative authorities in the United States.’

Pretty big caveat, JMO

There is a "I stand with Israel" sign in his building, although it might belong to another neighbor.
Yes, I had noticed that but haven't yet seen any info on what floor they live on . The sign is on the second floor. (And the street view is from August 2022.)

"We know who it is, he's still on the loose but we're not telling the public his identity" is absolutely wild.
A former FBI agent was talking about this earlier. It can actually make the manhunt harder, by forcing the suspect underground.

Also legal risks if it’s not the right person, etc.

ETA: It’s not law enforcement saying this publicly. It’s coming from leaks.

Agree. And that's important to mention.
My point was that the Israeli government is keeping an eye on the case and that made it more likely that Prof Loueiro was Jewish.

Hi all, if the "Person in Proximity" was indeed a homeless guy (as some have suggested), maybe he spent enough time in the area to realize that the POI was acting suspiciously and thus confronted him. Homeless people can often be community-minded.

16 December

  • Loureiro, the MIT professor, dies in the hospital

I think from the info I can find, Professor Loureiro and his family lived in the first floor condo. The second floor from publicly available info appears to be occupied by another resident. It's possible there's a third floor unit, however, his neighbor said she heard the gunshots downstairs (implying she was upstairs).

Good call on the street view date. We don't really know how long he lived in the area for. The sign does appear to still be up in press photos.

I'm wondering if Person #2, if homeless, has a place where he camps or stashes his stufff and Person #1 got too close to it.

"Doing there", like POI was doing something "off". If a stranger was looking over a neighbor's fence, I would use the same language, "Hey, what are you doing there!"
Who knows what he said exactly. In Minnesota we say, “Is there something I can help you find?”

Brookline has a very heavy Jewish population, so I wouldn't put much into that.

that was my thought as well. Territorial.

Please correct me if I’m wrong:

The witness police were looking for sat down with police, and said he confronted this person and the person ran.

The Reddit user (a confirmed different person than the witness) noticed this persons behavior enough to take note of the car, come back and look at the plates, and then get on the internet and comment

This person looks suspicious whatever that means, he stands out more than acting strange. Something about him is unique or weird enough to be super creepy to MEN!

IMHO, we don’t know the ratio of real men vs. domesticated males, but if someone were creepy weird enough, they will be scrutinized and/or confronted by real men sooner than later.

In the case of this Brown shooting suspect, the layers of bundles and their unusual behavior notwithstanding weather conditions, such as 1) the masks shown in the pictures seemingly with multiple straps and 2) the surveilling of the environment as indicated by the body language in the videos, should trigger alarm.

IMHO, thanks god some real men are still everywhere.

Update: 2 hours later and still no news conference scheduled in Providence Rhode Island on the identity of the Brown U gunman…it seems they know who he is but they can’t find him and he’s obviously considered armed and dangerous #7News

Does Salem NH have a car rental agency? Could he have ditched one car but then rented another?

Quite a few delays on this press conference. Hopefully there's some good news coming.

Right?!? LOL So polite up there in the north. Plus that wasn't a direct quote from the person, it was in the body of the article, so there's that too.
:)

<modsnip>

So the second person is actually a man, which is a verifiable piece of information rather than all our conjecture. That’s good news because it’s something solid.

I’m still speculating as to whether or not Brown and Prof.Loureiro are indeed connected. Police think so, and therefore I imagine they have some info that leads them to that potential conclusion.

Speculating again, I understand that Prof. Loureiro was not Jewish but was pro-Israel, and maybe he has some Jewish heritage with Sephardic Jewish ancestry.

The killer at Brown murdered a young Republican girl and a young Muslim boy. That seems to me that perhaps he did go there looking for the Jewish female professor whom he anticipated would be leading the class, and when she wasn’t there, out of anger, hatred and frustration killed those two kids who were easily within his range.

But who knows? I’m thrilled if LE really has identified the suspect. Now on to finding him.

A fork in the road for officials: Release identity of suspect or keep it hidden? An answer in either direction could help or hinder the manhunt

From CNN's John Miller and Emma Tucker

As investigators believe they now know the identity of the Brown University mass shooting suspect, law enforcement officials said, they’re faced with two options that could both help and hinder the manhunt as it enters day six: whether to release the person’s photo and name.

Over the past day and a half, investigators said they pulled together a number of leads and threads of information pointing to a particular suspect in the shooting.

The development makes a major difference in the investigation because authorities now know who they’re searching for in the expansive manhunt and have obtained a warrant for the person’s arrest, which means any law enforcement officer who encounters him has the authority to take them into custody.

Authorities now have to make the complex decision whether to announce who their suspect is and ask for the public’s help in keeping eyes out for that person, but either option has an upside and downside.

If they release the person’s identity and the suspect becomes aware that they’re being searched for, they could become a flight risk or a danger to others, among other possibilities that complicate a manhunt. If they don’t release the identity, they have fewer eyes out looking for the person, which could make the search more difficult.

A news conference held by Providence officials that was previously scheduled for 4 p.m. ET to provide an update was delayed, which points to the early and dynamic stage the investigation is currently in.
