Search underway for man who disappeared from medical facility in west end
Police are trying to find yet another patient who has been reported missing from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

59-year-old Robert McNamara was last seen at a medical facility around 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Queen Street and Ossington Avenue area.

He is described as white, five feet seven inches tall, with a thin build, greying hair, and a beard.

Police say McNamara has not been criminally charged, but should not be approached if seen.

CAMH has come under fire recently after a number of patients managed to slip away from the property.

This is the fifth reported case of a missing patient from a CAMH facility is recent weeks, although one was later called a “miscommunication.”

I don't think they need to worry about anyone approaching him since there is no picture. IMO

No photo crossed my mind as well. I couldn’t find a photo on any of the media sites.

"Toronto police are searching for a man who has gone missing from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health on a pass, but the medical facility says the man is not what it calls a "forensics patient."

That means Robert McNamara, 59, has not been admitted to the facility under the Criminal Code of Canada, has not been found not criminally responsible of criminal offences, or unfit to stand trial, and has not been ordered to have treatment.

CAMH says he is a voluntary patient who did not return on a pass.

The police, however, still consider him possibly to be a public safety threat, according to Katrina Arrogante, spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service."

During these times of concern for voluntary patients, our primary focus remains on the safety of the patient themselves."

"CAMH said many people feel the stigma that comes from being diagnosed with mental illness and characterizing them as dangers to society is unhelpful.

"Suggestions that all people experiencing mental illness are a public safety threat further contributes to stigma and makes it more difficult for the next person to get the help they deserve," it says."

Geez, how many more will go missing until something is done.
I get that not everyone with mental health issues is violent or a threat to the public. My concern is those that are.
