So sad. My husband told me when I woke up this morning.

I loved "Dead Poets", "Fisher King", "What Dreams May Come", "Awakenings"........too many to count.

Love you, Robin. Peace.

I fall asleep in the full and certain hope
That my slumber shall not be broken;
And that though I be all-forgetting,
Yet shall I not be forgotten,
But continue that life in the thoughts and deeds
of those I loved.

So sad to wake up to this news this morning. Hook and Mrs Doubtfire in particular were a huge part of my childhood, couldn't even begin to guess how many times I've seen them. I'm not a big film lover these days but found some of his later work very enjoyable too.

Depression is such an evil illness. Unfortunately I'm seeing a variety of comments today which indicate that some people still don't understand that it is indeed an illness.

He did a movie a few years ago with Cheryl Hines, RV. I guess it wasn't well received, or even well known, but my family and I bring it along on all our trips, and think it's hilarious. His family in the movie is so real, and, of course, lessons are learned. Just a fun movie and he and Cheryl worked well together. Will be hard to watch again...

Autopsy expected in death of Robin Williams

By Josh Levs and Alan Duke, CNN

updated 9:17 AM EDT, Tue August 12, 2014

(CNN) -- An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday in the death of comic legend Robin Williams, who authorities believe took his own life.

He was found dead Monday at his northern California home. He was 63.

"He has been battling severe depression of late," his media representative Mara Buxbaum told CNN. "This is a tragic and sudden loss."

Williams was last seen alive at his home, where he lives with his wife, at about 10 p.m. Sunday, the sheriff's statement said...

I am not a bit surprised. They go so high, they have to come down so far, then repeat.. The way some are able to go to high heights and deep lows in the first place is Bi- Polar Disorder/ Depression.

Yeah, and then for some one day it's just too damn much to face the roller coaster one more time.

Nightline was devoted to Robin Williams last night. ABC's morning is covering it extensively (I'm sure the other MSMs are as well), and I believe 20/20 will be doing the same. He made such an impact on so many lives, and yet he had to fight so hard within his own self. It's heart-breaking

I loved him but I deal with the illness and sometimes found him a little hard to watch just because I can see it in him, anyhow Im very sad , it claims too many :(

I have had the same experience. Like it seemed to always be just below the surface, no matter how funny the act.

Once on the TV program "Inside the Actors Studio," Robin Williams was asked, "If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?"

After a joke about a concert including Mozart and Elvis, he added, "to know that there's laughter."

I've been crying on and off all day. I watched clips from his movies and tribute videos on YouTube for 2 hours and I was a mess the whole time. Now I can't cheer up!

I watched Mrs Doubtfire today, and tomorrow I will watch The Birdcage and Dead Poets Society. It is utterly tragic that a man who gave us so much joy and laughter, felt so much pain and anguish within :(

He has always had that look of sadness in his eyes. I found it hard to look at photo's of him over the last couple of years due to the fact that I could see he was being consumed by it more and more.

Reading through this thread I am struck by some random thoughts.

So many people talk about Robin being such a part of "their" generation, yet I sense that there are a few generations that have been he has been part of. It seems from quite young, to those as old as I am. That is somewhat unique and few celebrities seem to have such an impact on so many generations.

Also the thought that there are many good comedians. Leno, Fallon, Kmmel, Conan O'Brien, Letterman. There have been some truly great comedians over the years, George Carlin and Richard Pryor come to mind.

But there are very, very few comedic geniuses. Guys, like Robin, who can ad lib so brilliantly and effortlessly. Maybe Robin's idol Jonathon Winters and Robin himself. I really can't think of many others. Lots of greats, not so many geniuses.

I am very sad that he felt he could go on no longer, but I will not judge him. Instead I thank him for the laughter. I thank him for proving, with his actions to Chris and Dana Reeve what a true friend is. I thank him for his tireless work for charity which all who knew him said was based on nothing but genuine compassion.

There is an old Don McClean song "American Pie" but probably better known to most as "The Day the Music Died" which was said to be about the deaths in a plane crash of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper on February 3rd. 1959. If that was the day the music died, then August 11, 2014 was truly the day the laughter died.

Rest In Peace Robin Williams.
