I was born in Osceola, Nebraska! Since age 9, I have lived in central and eastern Washington State exclusively (nothing like Seattle's climate---Washington can also be semi-arid with sagebrush), with the exception of 15 months in Copperas Cove, Texas. Graduate of WSU in Pullman. Or in other words, WSU: prettiest colors, greatest logo, best fight song ever. Go Cougs.

Never mind that a reputation WSU has for messing up in football at the worst possible moment has produced its own verb. To wit, from Wiki: "To 'Coug it', a tendency of the WSU Cougars football team to lose games via late-game collapses, odds-defying losses, 'snatching defeat from the jaws of victory', and otherwise choking, has given rise to the verb 'Coug-ed' it that applies to any action a person might do that causes failure when it counts."

So wherever you live, you now know what to say when you drop the birthday cake on the floor as you present it to the birthday person: "Oh, no, I Coug-ed it!"
