LOL, and I thought Diana was the sanest of the whole group. Shows what I know.

I once read a great book called (I think) A psychological history of the Royal Family. Turns out they're all mad ;)

I had a feeling Charlotte Elizabeth Diana would be her name. Notice that all three names are of immediate family:

Charlotte is the diminutive of Charles, Prince William's father.
Elizabeth, Prince William's grandmother.
Diana, Prince William's mother.

I believe Charlotte is Pippa's (Kate's sister) middle name as well.

Charlotte was my great-great aunt's name though I am fairly sure that did not enter the equation here.

I have a god daughter called Charlotte too, named after her great-grandmother, we tried to get the derivative 'Lottie' to stick for the longest time, it didn't quite work so she goes by the full name at all times unless it's 'Char'.

There was a Charlotte that married King George III in the 1700's.
Queen Charlotte King George. I'm sure the royals knew this.

And Kate and Pippa's mother Carole, has Elizabeth as her middle name.

More significantly, George IV's only daughter, Princess Charlotte, is the only female to date to be Princess of Wales in her own right, and would have been Queen if she had survived her father. She died young, in childbirth, and if she had not, Queen Victoria would not only never have been Queen, she would never have been born. (After Charlotte's death all her bachelor uncles rushed into marriage to produce an heir. The future William IV abandoned the longterm mistress with whom he had 10 children in order to marry, but had no children with his wife. Victoria's father was the next youngest brother.)

Wow, that's some interesting, juicy background!

Bye, bye, for now, Princess Charlotte

Wait, wait, we only just met Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, and now she's been whisked off to privacy in the glorious English countryside.

We are unlikely to see her again in public for months, possibly not until her christening later this year.

Prince William and Duchess Kate left Kensington Palace Wednesday morning, with Prince George and Princess Charlotte in the back seat behind darkened windows.

They headed to Anmer Hall, their country retreat in Norfolk, north of London, arriving a couple of hours later.
