U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the two sides agreed broadly to pursue three goals: to restore staffing at their respective embassies in Washington and Moscow, to create a high-level team to support Ukraine peace talks and to explore closer relations and economic cooperation.
"Prosecutors say Georgescu is the subject of “criminal proceedings” linked to incitement. Georgescu is a fierce critic of NATO and the EU."

That first post with the shot of the gas tunnel - is that a satellite pic? Just wondering if it's a hint that Ukraine is now getting satellite support from elsehwere? MOO

This is the link to the article I read yesterday saying that Ukraine still has access to the satellite imagery that it pays for.

Ukraine can reportedly still access imagery that it has purchased with its own accounts.

This is common sense. Behavior of any normal person.

If you're winning the game you don't quit, during the game.

Trump will end the war with Ukraine and Russia.

I can't predict what Trump will do, when Russia retaliates against UK for seizing his funds. UK trying to make up their own set of international banking laws.

Moo...

I’d like to hear what they have to say. Don’t do what we did? Keep funding the war with weapons that we wouldn’t give? Don’t cave in to surrendering land? imo

Former President Bill Clinton has expressed remorse over his role in negotiating a 1994 deal that resulted in Ukraine giving up its nuclear arsenal, suggesting that Russia never would have invaded its smaller neighbor if it still had nukes.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama should start admitting critical mistakes in his administration’s Russia policy, including Moscow’s illegal 2014 annexation of Crimea, a senior Ukrainian official said Friday.
(…)
Obama, who famously launched a “Russia reset” after taking office in 2009, sought to restore relations between Washington and Moscow during his two terms.
Congress was a non mover on Crimea.

The history of Crimea is important to consider. Crimea and much of the northern Black Sea coast were once a part of the Ottoman Empire. Imperial Russia forced the Ottoman population to leave after conquest, and settled Russians into the conquered areas. In some respects, Putin is not unlike the Czars.

The book by UK historian Orlando Figes is comprehensive and describes the ethnic cleansing that was a part of Russian policy:

Yes, I guess I was thinking more of genocide than ethnic cleansing even though both have the same outcome. Here is an article from early 2023 how the Russians are achieving it. The irony is that many of the people who are coming in to the occupied territories are not exactly what Putin would consider ethnic Russian, they are just marking the spot, imo, until the real Russians come in.

i do agree. Obama, Biden and John Kerry should be feeling grief.
Romney would have done differently.

Hopefully as America regresses and fails on the World stage, many ,many people SHOULD also feel grief in the future for this failure. If not, shame on you.

I just hope the US is ready for the MAGA counter attacks, because they are coming and they will be ugly. IMO
How do you mean? Counter attacks against MAGA or by them?

WARSAW, March 9 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused Poland's foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski of "making things up" and suggested on Sunday he was ungrateful, in a strong rebuke after Sikorski said Ukraine may need an alternative to the Starlink satellite service.
Headline says "Say thank you Rubio tells Poland". So patronising! I know what I'd say! MOO

What should Americans do?
I have no answer. The country is divided not only about this war but about almost everything else. To quote the Irish poet, William Butler Yeats in his poem The Second Coming:
"things fall apart, the centre cannot hold"

By them. I think they will soon come out after the protesters, and it won't be peaceful any longer. IMO

Ever think the US would be holding Putins wig?

Today, Defense Minister Umerov reported on his meetings and contacts with partners regarding new support packages:

Poland is preparing additional support packages and continues its participation in the Czech-led ammunition initiative.

Germany – we expect an accelerated delivery of IRIS-T air defense systems and their ammunition. It is crucial that Germany recognizes its role as one of the key security pillars of Europe and the modern free world, and we deeply appreciate this.

European Union – we are working at the EU institutional level to address existing supply shortages.

The Netherlands — there is a readiness to continue investing in weapons production in Ukraine.

Northern European and Baltic countries – full support, which means new aid packages, new investments in weapons production, and new political initiatives that will strengthen both Ukraine and Europe.

I’m grateful to all our partners.

I think that is a given to happen, and may already be happening at some discreet level. The US Govt is clearly showing itself to be untrustworthy.

imo

Yep. Honestly? They probably SHOULDN’T share any information with us. I wouldn’t if I were them. We deserve to be an outcast.

It’ll obviously make *us* less safe, but, if that happens people here have absolutely no one to blame but themselves. Though I am certain they will find someone else to blame it on.

That’s not going to happen. But I can see where some might hope for divisiveness, they keep sowing those seeds.

Elon Musk: “Starlink will never turn off for Ukraine”

SpaceX’s CEO insists Starlink will stay online in Ukraine, dismissing claims that the US considered using it as leverage.

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has signed a memorandum with the German company Diehl Defence, the producer of IRIS-T air defense systems. The agreement aims to triple the supply of missiles and air defense systems.

wow. I don't know the backstory from all perspectives, but on the surface of things it sounds like this is exactly what U.S. Vice President Vance was talking about durng his remarks on free speech in Europe recently.

I remember we were wavering about the intelligence sharing during Trump's previous presidency. This time it has become even more unstable.

Will Trump give them the green light a' la January 6?

I can't see where its at all similar tbh

The other thing is we DO have free speech but it is also fair to say we think many things MAGA/Trump thinks is just digusting and would not be appreciated elsewhere.
