That is not true at all. Canada exports its heavy crude to the US because they don't have the infrastructure to do so. Having refineries is fine but shipping the oil to the areas that use most of it is a geographical and ecological reason. It would take years for Canada to build the infrastructure to transport withing their own country just as it will take years for the US to build more refineries to process sweet crude.

Yes, that's what Poilievre has stated, that Canada has had years now to build the infrastructure and under the Trudeau government it hasn't happened.

Elon Musk: “Starlink will never turn off for Ukraine”

SpaceX’s CEO insists Starlink will stay online in Ukraine, dismissing claims that the US considered using it as leverage.

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has signed a memorandum with the German company Diehl Defence, the producer of IRIS-T air defense systems. The agreement aims to triple the supply of missiles and air defense systems.
Bit of a contradiction about Starlink there

"The U.S. has threatened to cut off Ukraine’s access to Starlink if Kyiv doesn’t agree to a critical minerals deal, Reuters wrote in late February, citing sources. Musk denied these reports back then."

I have no answer. The country is divided not only about this war but about almost everything else. To quote the Irish poet, William Butler Yeats in his poem The Second Coming:
"things fall apart, the centre cannot hold"

The perfect apocalyptic poem for wartime (though this poem was about the post-WWI period).

The line that precedes “things fall apart …” is also apropos, but in reverse.

“The falcon cannot hear the falconer.” (Because it’s spinning too far away).

In our situation it seems the falconer, (we know who that is) does not hear us, the falcons.

We don’t want the falconer to abandon a democratic ally, but the voice of the people has no import now that the election is over.

The succeeding line is timely as well— “mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.”

IMO

Yes, it's strangely prophetic. For who, remains to be seen.

It is a contradiction. I wonder if Musk is starting to notice the income he is losing in Teslas now not selling very well, the questions that are being raised about his competency with two SpaceX rockets exploding in less than two months, the people pulling out of Starlink subscriptions (like the province of Ontario)?

I know he is a billionaire, but billionaires typically become billionaires because they like the incoming flow of profit. It is a mindset.

That’s not going to happen. But I can see where some might hope for divisiveness, they keep sowing those seeds.
imo
The number #1 sower of seeds of division in the United States is Donald J Trump. He feeds off it like a parasite. Division creates chaos and while people are pointing their fingers at each other deals are being made that are not in the best interests of most Americans, only those who are wealthy enough to weather the storms coming.

Basic fact we see and have seen. It is exactly as you say.

Yep. Honestly? They probably SHOULDN’T share any information with us. I wouldn’t if I were them. We deserve to be an outcast.

It’ll obviously make *us* less safe, but, if that happens people here have absolutely no one to blame but themselves. Though I am certain they will find someone else to blame it on.
We'll be fine if that happens, although it is unlikely to happen. If it does, we have the capacity to make up for the loss, in no way are we "outcasts" except to those who have always had a dislike of the U.S.

The newpaper seems to suggest it was the US government who threatened it, not Musk himself, who denied it at the time. And has now confirmed he's not cutting it off (even though the Ukrainians were expecting that to happen). Why would Poland announce they could source an alternative if there hadn't been a threat to cut it off?!! And if Poland spend 50 billion a year to keep it then yes - maybe it's about money. JMO

I’ll never understand it, but I don’t try to anymore. 🤷‍♀️ I can only put one foot in front of the other each day, and do my best to help the many, many innocent people — like Ukrainians — who are going to be in the crosshairs first, and harmed for absolutely no good reason other than to placate a lot of really pathetically weak, frightened, proudly ignorant bullies. 💔

Not true IMO. If America are now outcasts it is because we have issues with your leadership after his abhorrent behaviour against Zelensky and that after betraying an ally with an enemy America or rather Trump can not be trusted. I certainly do not feel safe with him having secrets atm.

From the article you have posted ...

"The US embassy is next to the historic Brandenburg Gate and the Russian embassy is some 240 metres east of the US one."

"I bow to the people of Ukraine, I bow to your strength," said
{parliamentary leader] Dröge. "Your confidence is our mission."

Guess they didn't have very good sources.

Not true. We have never "always had a dislike of the US". We have been strong allies. Fought next to the US many, many times - in wars and attacks that the US have started.

I think most of us still like (and feel sorry for) a great majority of the US citizens. It is the new US Govt that is causing all of the distrust.

I doubt that Elon is worried about Ontario cancelling the province's Starlink subscription, or the terrorists who are vandalizng his vehicles.

I feel sorry for the Ukrainian people as well. Maybe they should put pressure on their leadereship to work toward an end to the war. Otherwise the killing and destruction will continue.

"Data released on Thursday showed that registrations of the company’s electric cars in Germany fell 76% to 1,429 last month.

Tesla was the world’s biggest producer of battery electric cars in 2024, but sales dropped to 1.79m ....

.... global protests against Musk and Tesla are intensifying. In America, there have been demonstrations outside dozens of Tesla showrooms, while in the UK a guerrilla poster campaign – “0 to 1939 in 3 seconds” – has emphasised Musk’s fascist-style salute at an inauguration rally. In Germany, he was recently caricatured on a carnival float as “Napo-Elon”. "

Seems to me he is working all day every day for his people. Pretty sure those people don't want part of their country given away just because Putin decided he wanted it.

I guess we'll see which direction the leadership of Ukraine chooses to go.
