Kyiv accuses Moscow of 'planning genocide' (rte.ie)
Kyiv has filed an application with the International Court of Justice, accusing Russia of "planning acts of genocide in Ukraine", the Hague-based court has said.

In the application filed yesterday, Kyiv also accused Russia of "intentionally killing and inflicting serious injury on members of the Ukrainian nationality", the ICJ said in a statement.

There has been no independent corroboration of the claims.

The court procedure comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin justified the invasion by saying Ukraine was committing genocide against the country's Russian-speaking population.

He used this unfounded claim as a pretext to recognise the independence of the breakaway eastern republics of Donetsk and Lugansk and launch a full-scale invasion of his neighbour on Thursday.

So have those negotiations broken down already?
Putins camp are probably shuffling papers and stalling so the deadly tank convoy can get to Kviv.

Uh-Oh, that's pretty provocative, seeing as how Putin thinks he owns all of Ukraine because its a Russian homeland.

That might be a problem.

It is a matter of life and death. So the EU will provide weapons for Ukraine’s armed forces | Josep Borrell

Russia must cease its military operations immediately, and to unconditionally withdraw from the entire territory of Ukraine. The same goes for Belarus, which has to immediately stop its involvement in this aggression and respect its international obligations. The European Union is united in offering its strong support to Ukraine and its people. This is a matter of life and death. I am preparing an emergency package to support the Ukrainian armed forces in their fight.

The international community will now in response opt for a full-scale isolation of Russia, to hold Putin accountable for this aggression. We are sanctioning those who finance the war, crippling the Russian banking system and its access to international reserves.

“I could hear the sound of the fighting outside, it was very scary,” Smishchkyk, who is from Vinnitsya in central Ukraine, told The Associated Press from a hotel that is offering free accommodation to refugees.

“We left all our belongings behind, but they are material things — less important than the lives of our children,” she said.

[...]

At Romania’s Siret border crossing, where thousands of Ukrainians have entered, government workers race to distribute basic amenities donated from all across the country. Meanwhile, people and businesses are pooling resources to provide the refugees with everything they need.

Stefan Mandachi, a businessman who lives in Suceava, a city about 30 miles south of the Siret border, has converted a large ballroom at the hotel he owns into a refugee reception center and is offering private hotel rooms for free to the displaced.

Scores of mattresses are laid out on the ballroom’s floor, donated clothes are piled high and young children run around.

[...]

Moldova, which shares a long border with Ukraine, is also seeing a massive influx of refugees. Authorities said that since Thursday, 70,080 Ukrainian citizens have entered the small nation of about 3.5 million.

[...]

Jacob Sontea, a Nigerian student who was based in Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine, arrived by train at Hungary's border Sunday with his family. ...

“It was becoming chaotic in the city of Kharkiv ... It was dangerous, so we had to leave because this is the only choice we had," he said.

Back at the hotel in Suceava, Smishchkyk tries to catch her breath as she glances tearfully at the ceiling. “They are still there," she said. “Our relatives, brothers, sisters, cousins. It is just very difficult to process.”

Russia-Ukraine latest news: US condemns Putin’s nuclear deterrence order; EU to buy arms for Ukraine | World news | The Guardian

9m ago 15:46

The mayor of Kyiv has said reports that the capital is surrounded by Russian forces are false.

“In the evening, Russian online publications spread information with reference to me that Kyiv was allegedly surrounded and evacuation of people was impossible,” Vitali Klitschko said in a statement. “And it is strange that Ukrainian telegram channels started to spread it… Do not believe lies! Trust information only from official sources. Together, we will stand together. Ukraine will win!”

A spokesperson for the mayor told the Kyiv Independent that Klitschko misspoke earlier Sunday, and that information about Russian troops encircling the city is “a lie and a manipulation”.

Satellite images on Sunday showed a 3.25-mile long deployment of Russian forces advancing toward Kyiv.
Bumping with more information - satellite images, distance, and direction of travel.

Aeroflot forced to cancel all flights to Europe after Russian jets banned from airspace

"The European Commission announced a ban across the entire 27-country bloc on Russian-owned aircraft from entering the bloc’s airspace or landing at their airports on Sunday after states including France and Belgium introduced their own restrictions."

They are reporting that 2 flights were turned around in the air: one to Paris and one to Brussels. Interesting that it's the EU that is doing this. UK also joined the ban.

Current state of the skies on Flight Radar. Lots of smaller private jets heading back to Moscow, and a big gap over Ukraine and Belarus. Looks like the commercial / passenger airlines (the blue ones) are steering well clear of the region.

Spain sends tons of aid supplies to Ukraine

Spain on Sunday sent two military cargo planes loaded with tons of supplies to Ukraine as Russian forces continued their advance on the fourth day of the military intervention.

In a statement, the government said two A400M military cargo planes left the Torrejon Air Base for Poland with 20,000 kilograms of personal protection equipment and medical supplies.

A person familiar with the talks later said that discussions are still ongoing. The person said any planes would be supplied directly by EU member states and not funded through an arrangement announced earlier for the EU to finance weapons deliveries to Ukraine.

Mr. Borrell said that Mr. Kuleba had requested planes that Ukrainian Air Force pilots can fly. Ukraine's jet fighters are Soviet-built MiG and Sukhoi models.

Some current EU members that were once part of the USSR-led Warsaw Pact still fly such planes or have old ones parked.
