Oh if something were to happen to Putin the Kremlin will be able to spit out someone who wants to be in charge. I fact, IMO, it might spit more than one and turn into the Godfather...Part 2 of course.

Who is Putin's second in command - Mikhail Mishustin, Prime Minister - from google. He would succeed if something happened to Putin.

After today's false announcement from Putin of a cease-fire for humanitarian conditions, I think UN peacekeepers should be the ones who help organize and monitor civilian and humanitarian evacuations.

There needs to be a major non-combatant international organization involved. If it can't be NATO, or EU, then it should be the United Nations.

I agree that an international organization needs to be involved, but it probably needs to be an organization that is agreed upon by both parties, so I doubt NATO, EU, or UN would be agreeable to Russia. I read that in the last negotiations with Russia, Ukraine proposed that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) organize the humanitarian corridor. I am not sure if the links on this can be posted here.

I don't know what other international organizations can step in, I am not familiar with others.

Pence condemns Republican Putin 'apologists' in speech to RNC donors - CNNPolitics
Former Vice President Mike Pence on Friday condemned Republican "apologists" who have used positive language to describe Russian President Vladimir Putin amid his invasion of Ukraine, according to a source who was in the room as Pence spoke to top GOP donors.

"There is no room in this party for apologists for Putin. There is only room for champions of freedom," Pence said. ...

[...]

According to his prepared remarks, which the source said he did not deviate from Friday, Pence called on the Biden administration to take stronger actions against Russia, including sanctions on the country's oil exports.

"Putin only understands strength. As members of the party that won the Cold War, we must send a deafening message: Putin must stop or Putin must pay," Pence said.

How about the north part of Cyprus that is under Turkey's government? Do they have ports that Russian ships could use if turned away by southern Cyprus?

Then Turkey would be breaking the EU and NATO banishment of Russian forces.

Maybe they'll head to Syria where Assad will greet them with open arms.

The Russian Air Force has flown out of Syria recently. Why not the Russian Navy?

Anyone else seeing information that the head of Aeroflot has quit and left the country?

I'm seeing stuff like this on sites I don't want to link into.
I'd say, IMO, that head of Aeroflot has said or done something Putin doesn't like. Read the first lines of his Wikipedia.

"Mikhail Igorevich Poluboyarinov
(Russian: Михаил Игоревич Полубояринов; born April 2, 1966) is a Russian businessman, who was CEO of Aeroflot, Russia's largest airline, since 20 November 2020 until 4 March 2022 when he abruptly resigned and fled Russia."

Russia is a member of the UN. Don't see why they shouldn't be requested to participate for these humanitarian reasons.

Ukraine Update: Israel Premier Meets Putin in Moscow

Russian retailers restricted purchases of staple, “socially important” food items following reports of hoarding after this week’s drastic ruble devaluation and on concerns about disruptions to imports. The Agriculture Ministry said in a statement it supported the move.

Earlier, Russia’s biggest food retailer said it would temporarily limit large purchases of some goods after a spike in demand for foods like sugar, sunflower oil and buckwheat in several regions. X5 Retail Group NV said it has sufficient supplies but is struggling to pack and transport products quickly enough to meet demand.

Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, was in the city of Rzeszow in Poland earlier today, just prior to meeting the Ukraininan foreign minister at the border between Ukraine and Poland.

[...]

The Associated Press reports:

The Nato alliance pledged to step up support for eastern flank members such as Poland to counter the Russian invasion of Ukraine last month.

Poland is seeking more U.S. forces on its territory, where there are currently more than 10,000 American troops.

Rau said Poland had already taken in more than 700,000 refugees from Ukraine and that he expected hundreds of thousands more in the coming weeks unless Russia backs down.

“Poland will never recognize territorial changes brought about by unprovoked, unlawful aggression,” he said, adding that his country will demand that alleged Russian war crimes committed in Ukraine will be prosecuted.

Morawiecki and Blinken discussed stepping up sanctions and freezes of assets on Russia, which Morawiecki said should be “crushing” for Russia’s economy.

No Russian banks should be exempted from the exclusions from the SWIFT (international bank communications) system, he said. Currently, all but the largest Russian banks have been kicked off the financial messaging service.

The scenes in Mariupol and other cities are heart-breaking.

Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of all civilians living through terrifying situations in #Ukraine.

There have been lots of reports of humanitarian corridors set to happen today.

This is our statement https://t.co/vxXtZveAm1

From Reuter's

More Russians, Ukrainians seek asylum at U.S.-Mexico border

A growing number of Russians and Ukrainians are traveling to Mexico, buying throwaway cars and driving across the border into the United States to seek asylum, a trend that could accelerate as Russia's invasion of Ukraine has forced more than a million people to flee their homes.

At a congressional hearing on Wednesday, Representative Lou Correa, a Democrat from California, said he was taken aback by the number of Russian and Ukrainian migrants arriving by car when he visited the San Ysidro port of entry between San Diego and Tijuana about a month ago.

A border agent pointed out 20 cars that had been pulled over, saying they were full of Ukrainian and Russian migrants, Correa recalled.

And Russia will be cutting off those Aeroflot flights to/from Cancun, Mexico, and Punta Cana, DR on Tuesday !!

Priest who threw paint at Russian embassy calls for war protests to continue

A PRIEST WHO threw red paint over the Russian embassy in Dublin has urged people in Ireland to continue to protest against the war in Ukraine.

Fr Fergal MacDonagh was among speakers who addressed a rally in Dublin city centre that was attended by several thousand protesters on Saturday.

Ukrainian ambassador to Ireland Larysa Gerasko also spoke to the crowds outside the GPO on O’Connell Street, warning that her country was on the brink of a “humanitarian catastrophe”.

(...)

The cleric explained what motivated him to vandalise the property.

“Yesterday morning when I woke up I heard on the radio that a maternity hospital had been bombed in Ukraine during the night,” he said.

“It’s appalling and horrific and it’s the work of evil what is happening in Ukraine, it’s a war crime and Putin will face justice in this world or in the next.”

He added: “I’ve been frightened and worried and anxious all week, all the last 10 days.

“We must protest, the people of Ukraine must know that they are not alone.”

So Ukrainian forces have gotten control back?

Yesterday it was all over the news (which I've been watching obsessively) that Russian soldiers are holding the workers there at gunpoint and making sure they work. Maybe somewhere in his cretin brain, Putin realizes that allowing the nuclear plant to abruptly halt operations, which would destroy the coolers, would bring radiation toward Moscow.

ETA: just recalling how Putin launched this whole tragedy with that rambling, hour-long speech about how Ukraine has always been a part of Russia, how they are the same people, etc. and how he wants to "liberate" them so they can be together again.

IMO it's akin to your teenager running away and refusing to come home, so you hire assassins to murder your child. All of this is Putin's desire for a legacy of reuniting the former Soviet Union.

During the tenth day of the Ukrainian people’s heroic resistance with the russian military invasion, the invaders, failing to achieve the goal of an offensive operation in a timely manner, continue to launch missile and bomb strikes, including using bomber aircraft on civilian infrastructure.

So, today the enemy struck at Bila Tserkva, more than 20 houses were damaged. In Irpen, the bombing damaged a railway track and disrupted a train used to evacuate civilians.

According to the available information, with the beginning of the armed aggression against Ukraine, the activities of russian private military campaigns (PMC) to recruit personnel who have experience of military service in special forces and have appropriate training have intensified. So, in Rostov-on-Don the headquarters of PMC Wagner is developed.

Also 2 planes of the Russian occupiers were shot down, 3 pilots were taken prisoner, 1 - was destroyed. 5 helicopters and 1 enemy UAV were shot down.
