The French Navy (Marine Natiionale) aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and its air wing has started supporting NATO's enhanced Vigilance Activities in the Black Sea region following a short logistical stop in Cyprus.

French Aircraft Carrier Now Supporting NATO - Naval News

@French_CSG
set sail again yesterday after a few days of port call in Cyprus. #Clemenceau22 continues, but the mission evolves to adapt to the current geopolitical situation. The flexibility of the carrier vessel nuclear and her escort is once again a major asset.

‘Putin is angry’: U.S. intel chiefs warn that Russia may escalate attacks

“We assess Putin feels aggrieved the West does not give him proper deference and perceives this as a war he cannot afford to lose. But what he might be willing to accept as a victory may change over time, given the significant costs he is incurring,” Avril Haines, the director of national intelligence, told members of the House Intelligence Committee.

CIA Director William Burns, a former ambassador to Moscow, warned Tuesday that Putin now finds himself in an untenable position.

"I think Putin is angry and frustrated right now. He's likely to double down and try to grind down the Ukrainian military with no regard for civilian casualties,” Burns said of Russia’s efforts, which have already resulted in an estimated 2 million Ukrainian refugees.

“But the challenge that he faces — and this is the biggest question that's hung over our analysis of his planning for months now. … He has no sustainable political endgame in the face of what is going to continue to be fierce resistance from Ukrainians,” Burns continued. “So I think that's what his calculus has been. And I think that's the reality of what he faces today."

It certainly feels like this is going on !

'Free of charge': Poland gives Ukraine more than two dozen MiG fighter jets

That decision to transfer the planes to Ramstein, a U.S. Air Force base in Germany, represents an attempt to sidestep the risk of Russia regarding Poland as a belligerent in the war in Ukraine.

“We are not sending any jets to Ukraine because that would open a military interference in the Ukrainian conflict,” Polish President Andrzej Duda said last week. “We are not joining that conflict. NATO is not a party to that conflict.”

“At the same time, Poland requests the United States to provide us with used aircraft with corresponding operational capabilities,” the foreign ministry said. “Poland is ready to immediately establish the conditions of purchase of the planes.”

IAEA says it's lost contact with remote data transmission from safeguards monitoring systems at Chernobyl

From CNN's Amy Cassidy in Glasgow, Scotland

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Tuesday that it has lost contact with remote data transmission from safeguards monitoring systems installed at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in northern Ukraine, which was taken over by Russian forces last month.

Live updates: Russia invades Ukraine

Update 15 – IAEA Director General Statement on Situation in Ukraine | IAEA

“Ukraine told the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) today that it was becoming increasingly urgent and important for the safe management of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) to rotate some 210 technical personnel and guards who have been working there since Russian forces took control of the site almost two weeks ago, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said.”

[...]

“The handling of nuclear material at the Chornobyl NPP has been put on hold for the time being, the regulator added. The site, located in an Exclusion Zone, includes decommissioned reactors as well as radioactive waste facilities. The regulatory authority said it could only communicate with the plant via e-mail.”

[...]

“The Director General also indicated that remote data transmission from safeguards monitoring systems installed at the Chornobyl NPP had been lost. The Agency is looking into the status of safeguards monitoring systems in other locations in Ukraine and will provide further information soon.”

I an interested in what social media/internet the Russians have access to. Are there any attempts online to let them see what’s really going on?

I know I don't understand a lot of what is going on between Russia and the Ukraine, but do know this: Putin is a special kind of evil, enjoying killing hundreds, perhaps thousands of innocent people, who are being used as pawns to get what he wants. He is using this slaughter as a bargaining chip to get what he wants. Some of you think the bargain is worth it--- he is basically saying to Ukraine, if you give me what I want I will stop the killing and if you don't, I will continue the slaughter. I wouldn't trust anything that comes out of his lying mouth anyway: everything he has said so far has been a lie!
I don't trust him. He's Hitler and Stalin. Do you know there's a huge percent of Russians who think Stalin was a hero and now Putin too!? This is indoctrination at the Umph-level and keeping people's minds cloistered. He has the gaul to call President Zelensky a Nazi when Putin is the one charging down that path to infamy.

Like I said before, is it ever ok to lie to a liar? Whatever that needs to be done, except starting WWIII, to get those invaders out of the Ukraine now, life and death. Other things can be fixed in the long run. I have to believe saving lives now can only help the future to find a better way. AJMO

The US is a fortunate position here, as it already produces enough gas and oil to be self sufficient. Europe does not and we are therefore tied to Russia in that respect until other arrangements are made.

Not sure how on earth the USA uses 20% of the entire worlds oil up though, what the heck are you doing with it? I mean, fair enough, it’s yours to use, but that’s an enormous amount for just one country!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)
It's one very large and populated country though.
Things may change in the near future. <modsnip - off topic>My son, his husband and my daughter now drive electric cars. They purchase solar panels for their homes so they are now all electric (one has a natural gas cooktop) and no longer purchase an gas for vehicles. They charge their vehicles with the power that the solar generates. We live in the desert so sunshine is plentiful!
My son drives about 60 miles to work and 60 miles back daily. His husband drives a bit farther back and forth. Their savings are huge with the solar. My daughter works from home but still wanted to do the environmentally right thing.

Someone really needs to explain Kaliningrad to me

Why is there a need to send in more than a dozen jets every day from Russia?

Why is there a flight there from Moscow arriving at 1.30 am?

Is it like a little teeny Las Vegas without the sun or the showgirls?

Thanks for that. So it appears Youtube may be the best way to go as far as trying to reach Russian citizens. I think they need to be reached. It will be too late for Ukraine, probably. But it may cause consequences for that disgusting war criminal.

I’m sure many of us wake up worried about Ukraine every morning. Wondering what horror happened over night.

I’m not hearing any commentator/pundit, anyone from anywhere who says that criminal is going to stop until Ukraine is destroyed.

Someone I listened to on the radio (I believe ex-US intelligence who spoke to Russian intelligence) stated that the policy of Russia is governed by the idea that if your neighbor’s house is better than yours, instead of building up your own, burn the neighbor’s down.
