Russia-Ukraine war live updates: Red Cross tries Mariupol evacuation again, Moscow accused of mining homes (nbcnews.com)
''A fresh attempt to evacuate civilians from the besieged southern city of Mariupol will be launched Saturday, the International Committee of the Red Cross said in a statement, after Friday's efforts failed because of what the group called "impossible" conditions.

Tens of thousands remain trapped with scant access to food and water in the city which has been encircled since the early days of Russia's five-week-old invasion. The ICRC sent a team on Friday to lead a convoy of about 54 Ukrainian buses and other private vehicles out of the city, but they turned back.

Six other humanitarian corridors would also open Ukraine's prosecutor general Iryna Venediktova said in a separate statement on her Telegram channel.

Her announcement came after Britain's defense ministry said in an intelligence briefing that Ukrainian forces continued to advance on withdrawing Russian forces in the vicinity of Ukraine's capital Kyiv. It added that Russian forces "are reported to have withdrawn from Hostomel airport to the city's northwest which has been subject to fighting since the first day of the conflict."

However, in a late night address, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that retreating Russian forces were leaving mines, including around homes and corpses. "There are a lot of trip wires, a lot of other dangers," he said.

The psychology of this is just lost on me. Truly, does it ease the defeated ego or is it just a type of denial action for the depressed brain that it didn't lose, it won?
Booby-trapping corpses...what kind of mind does that?:(

Dmitry Rogozin - Wikipedia

Dmitry Rogozin is a "Russian politician who is Director General of Roscosmos since 2018. Previously he was Deputy Prime Minister of Russia in charge of the defense industry from 2011 to 2018. Prior to that, he was Russia's ambassador to NATO from 2008 to 2011."

"Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Roscosmos, said in a social media post that the aim of the sanctions was to “kill Russian economy and plunge our people into despair and hunger, to get our country on its knees”. He added that they “won’t succeed in it, but the intentions are clear”.

“That’s why I believe that the restoration of normal relations between the partners at the International Space Station (ISS) and other projects is possible only with full and unconditional removal of illegal sanctions,” Rogozin said.

Russia to halt cooperation over International Space Station

Sounds like this guy is the type to be a prime candidate to replace Putin. There's just too many like him waiting in the wings to carry on with the lies and deceptions offloaded onto the Russian people. A true revolution is long overdue for personal freedoms, IMO.

How cool could Russia be if they just got rid of the mentality of that those in office need to practice such total subjugation of minds. It's obscene in this day and age. AJMO

Snipped from PommyMommy's post...

"Alyona is also struggling to convince her disbelieving father living in Russia of the death and destruction that Putin's invasion of Ukraine has caused, a similar story told by other Ukrainians with relatives in Russia where state-controlled media speak only of a sanitized "special operation," or of destruction caused by "Ukrainian nationalists" or "Nazis."

"Despite the fact that his daughter and grandchildren have fled the bombings, he says, 'This is your fault, you [Ukrainians] started it all. When this is all over, I will drive with you around Ukraine myself and show you that all you've been shown is a lie. Why did you leave anyway?'" Alyona said"

How do you not believe your daughter when she tells you the WAR she and your grandchildren are experiencing and at who's hands it's occuring!? How does the state take away that trust so throughly? I will never understand it, Thank God.

These poor people, death and destruction is not enough, they have to deal with immediate family calling them liars. AJMO

If the war in Ukraine is a fight against authoritarianism, why are these democracies sitting on the fence? | The Star
''To be sure, Putin’s unprovoked invasion shows the perils of unconstrained power. But the unpredictable reactions of so many other leaders shows the limits of democratic engagement.
Across Western and Central Europe (and parts of East Asia), the cohesion is impressive. But some of the most influential democracies around the world are still sitting on the fence instead of standing up for freedom and defending sovereignty.
From India to Israel, elected leaders are walking a fine line between doing right versus military might:''

  • ''India boasts of being the world’s biggest democracy, long espousing its Gandhian values of peace, non-violence and non-interference. Yet Prime Minister Narendra Modi has suddenly gone silent over the invasion, and India abstained from a UN vote condemning the invasion (as did neighbouring Sri Lanka and Pakistan).
  • Israel styles itself the Middle East’s beacon of democracy, born in the aftermath of the Holocaust. But Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has decidedly lost his voice.
  • Turkey imagines itself a democratic role model for the Islamic world and a bulwark of NATO. Yet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is having it both ways.
  • South Africa, an exemplar of post-apartheid pluralism and democracy, is siding with Russia. President Cyril Ramaphosa pointedly blamed NATO for provoking the invasion and also abstained from the UN vote.
Each of these outsized nations has long made a virtue of its foreign policy values, in good times and bad. Now, high-minded international principles of territorial integrity are captive of core national interests — and military armaments.''

Poor little Moldova have their own security problems with a Donbas-type breakaway region called Transnistria. Population around 350,000.

It seems human rights is not a thing there, just like in Russia. The banned in Moldova communist hammer and sickle emblem is even on it's de facto flag.

Transnistria - Wikipedia

"The right of citizens to change their government was restricted ... Authorities reportedly continued to use torture and arbitrary arrest and detention ... In Transnistria authorities limited freedom of speech and of the press ... Authorities usually did not permit free assembly ... In the separatist region of Transnistria the authorities continued to deny registration and harassed a number of minority religious groups ... The separatist region remained a significant source and transit area for trafficking in persons ... Homosexuality was illegal, [sic] and gays and lesbians were subject to governmental and societal discrimination."

Yes. I think i have once mentioned Kharkiv tractor factory, producing half of details for tractors, and another half is made in Russia. For a while, transistors were made in Latvia, and the rest, in Russia. God knows who makes chips now. So, small wonder half of details for Russian tanks are made in Izyum. It probably was so in the USSR, and since then, nothing new has been invented, started or organized.

United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect

Putin the terrible is committing genocide on the people of Ukraine (please see definition)- How in God's name is he being allowed by the entire world to continue this in plain sight of the world? Countries should be getting together to figure out a way to take him out-- My brain cannot comprehend how he is allowed to continue murdering innocent human beings and destroying cities. He must be eliminated or we are in very deep trouble. He is extremely dangerous and will stop at nothing to attain his goal of domination of the Ukraine, and maybe more countries.

But he wasn’t moving. I realised he was dead. I just opened my door and ran.”
