Putin gets what he didn't want: Ukraine army closer to West | AP News
The longer Ukraine’s army fends off the invading Russians, the more it absorbs the advantages of Western weaponry and training — exactly the transformation President Vladimir Putin wanted to prevent by invading in the first place.

The list of arms flowing to Ukraine is long and growing longer. It includes new American battlefield aerial drones and the most modern U.S. and Canadian artillery, anti-tank weapons from Norway and others, armored vehicles and anti-ship missiles from Britain and Stinger counter-air missiles from the U.S., Denmark and other countries.

I remember two years ago discussing the parameters for when we were in a pandemic and watching things play out wondering and guessing.

So when do we know this is WW3? Is there some specific criteria met for world war? I wonder how long hostilities went on with WWI and WWII before people knew it was a world war?

It is looking really bad from my vantage point and nothing is looking better that I can see.

Putin described the situation in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol as “tragic”, but said the Russian military was no longer active in the city. Putin’s comments come after accusations by Ukraine that Russia has been shelling a humanitarian corridor out of the besieged port city.

Russia cuts gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria over support for Ukraine | CP24.com
''POKROVSK, Ukraine (AP) -- Russia opened a new front in its war in Ukraine on Wednesday, cutting two European Union nations that staunchly back Kyiv off from its gas, a dramatic escalation in the conflict that is increasingly becoming a wider battle with the West.

One day after the United States and other Western allies vowed to speed more and better military supplies to Ukraine, the Kremlin upped the ante, using its most essential export as leverage. European gas prices shot up on the news, which European leaders denounced as “blackmail.”

In a memo, state-controlled Russian giant Gazprom said it was cutting Poland and Bulgaria off from its natural gas because they refused to pay in Russian rubles, as President Vladimir Putin had demanded. The company said it had not received any such payment since the beginning of the month.''

Ukraine: Hitler Would’ve Won if America Was This Lax in WWII

This article is behind a paywall at the daily beast. How dare this Ukraine official diss the United States in this way saying that if the US conducted itself this way during WWII, Hitler would have won the war. You cannot compare this situation to WWII when the United States was attacked directly and then came into the war.

NATO is doing everything possible to help the Ukraine short of getting involved in a situation that could cause WWIII. Putin is a demented cornered animal right now- he is mad with obsession with the Ukraine- he cares not a whit about human life and if necessary he would kill all Ukrainian citizens and have a barren wasteland with no humans in it - so he could say he won!!!

I believe NATO countries are doing all they can, up to a point, so as not to precipitate WWIII with possible nuclear weapons.

Russia-Ukraine war: Putin warns of ‘lightning fast’ retaliation if west intervenes; White House accuses Russia of ‘weaponising energy supplies’ - live (theguardian.com)
''Putin warns of ‘lightning fast’ retaliation if West interferes in Ukraine

In an address to lawmakers in St Petersburg earlier today, Vladimir Putin warned any countries attempting to interfere in Ukraine would be met with a “lightning-fast” response from Moscow.

The Russian president said the West wanted to cut Russia up into different pieces and accused it of pushing Ukraine into conflict with Russia, adding:

If someone intends to intervene into the ongoing events (in Ukraine) from the outside and creates unacceptable strategic threats for us, then they should know that our response to those strikes will be swift, lightning fast.

Russian troops would not hesitate to use the most modern weaponry, Putin said:

We have all the tools for this — ones that no one can brag about. And we won’t brag. We will use them if needed. And I want everyone to know this.

We have already taken all the decisions on this.''

A really long time, actually. While it’s widely accepted that WWII began in September 1939, there were several escalating conflicts in the years prior that were major contributors to all out war (Japan’s invasion Manchuria in 1931, Italy’s invasion of Ethiopia in 1935, the Spanish Civil War, the Soviet-Japanese border conflicts in the late 1930s, Germany’s annexation of Austria in 1938, Germany’s invasion of Poland in 1939, and the various European alliances and agreements that were formed throughout this time). In fact, much of the tension was due to unresolved issues from the First World War.

Readout of UN meeting in Russia.

Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation | United Nations Secretary-General

The Secretary-General met with the President of the Russian Federation, H.E. Mr. Vladimir Putin, in Moscow this afternoon.

During the tête-a-tête meeting, the Secretary-General reiterated the United Nations’ position on Ukraine, and they discussed the proposals for humanitarian assistance and evacuation of civilians from conflict zones, namely in relation to the situation in Mariupol.

The President agreed, in principle, to the involvement of the United Nations and the International Committee for the Red Cross in the evacuation of civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol.

Follow-on discussions will be had with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the Russian Defence Ministry.

IMO, let's keep in mind when Russia speaks, it's a lie.

It's been almost 2 days. Time is of the essence here. What's the plan? Jmo

As NATO weighs nuclear war risk, U.S. security "assurances" upset Ukraine

Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland perturbed Ukrainians last week when she said the U.S. is negotiating future "security assurances" for Kyiv, using the same terminology as the 1994 Budapest Memorandum under which Ukraine surrendered its nuclear arsenal in exchange for the hollow Western and Russian promise of protection.

Ukrainian leaders are demanding legally-binding security guarantees as part of any deal that ends the current Russian invasion of the country. Absent NATO membership and admission into the alliance's Article 5 collective defense umbrella—which appears unlikely—Kyiv argues this is the only way to deter yet more Russian aggression.

Nuland's interview with the Ukrainian Evropeiska Pravda newspaper was not received well in Kyiv, according to current and former Ukrainian officials and politicians who spoke with Newsweek.
