Police appeal to find soldier Ryan Rudd missing from Catterick Garrison last seen in Selby.

Police in North Yorkshire are searching for a missing soldier who failed to return to his barracks at Catterick Garrison after a night out in Selby.

Twenty-eight-year-old Ryan Rudd was last seen at the New Inn in Selby in the early hours of Sunday 15 February after going on a night out with two friends on Valentine’s Day.

He failed to return home or to his base at Catterick Garrison and since then has been out of contact with family, friends and colleagues.

North Yorkshire Police said: "We are appealing to anyone who may have seen him in Selby on 14/15 February or has seen him since then, to contact us as a matter of urgency."

Ryan is described as white, around 5ft 8in tall, of slim build with dark brown hair and was last seen he was wearing a black t-shirt, blue hooded top and black trousers.

A CCTV image has been released from the pub in Selby on the night he went missing.

ITV News contacted the Ministry of Defence for comment and an army spokesperson said: "We can confirm that Lance Corporal Ryan Rudd was reported missing to North Yorkshire Police on March 1 2026.

"An investigation is under way and we are working with North Yorkshire Police who are leading this. We are unable to offer further detail at this time."

Why did it take them so long to report him missing? Over 2 weeks!

It may have to do with him being a soldier, and that the Army first wanted to check if he might be voluntarily missing.

Article from 3 March 2026:
The 28-year-old was reported missing to North Yorkshire Police on March 1 by a senior member of the Army after he failed to return to his barracks at Catterick Garrison.

Yes I guess it could be for that reason couldn't it. It just seems like such a long time and not one person questioned why he hadn't been seen or been in touch. The wording in the first article suggests he was maybe on leave as it says he failed to return home OR to his barracks.
