the relevance could be if there was a water bottle, and it was dropped or discarded, it could be a clue IMO. there is a real lack of clues.
Equally she could have dropped a scrunchie. Until LE confirm either way it is irrelevant to the case.

Just saw an interview with Valentine Smith (
Greater Melbourne Area · Footprints in the Wilderness Missing Persons Australia
PhD(c). Criminologist. Founder, Missing Persons Research Hub) on channel 9. He said
When asked if there is hope for a positive outcome (not quoted) - We’ve been looking at the cases from Footprints in the wilderness. They are resolved. SM reportedly left home, very experienced, she had her mobile phone and smart watch and that is it - no more evidence. Unfortunately the interview was then cut short :(
Not too much more detail unfortunately.

Four days ago it was reported that detectives would begin looking into Samantha's computer history, phone data, and her movements in the days leading up to her disappearance. I wonder if they found something that has now led them to declare her disappearance suspicious.
I would say that it is par for the course, however, something has obviosuly come to light leading to this change of direction of the investigation. LE won’t be forthcoming with this as it would be central to their case being built on it.

Again, it was 13°c when she left for her run and 24°c by the time she should have finished.

Many runners in here also sharing they don't carry water with them
it was a long long run in the middle of summer. You would need water even if it was 14c the entire way.

do you know how dehydrated you can get going for a long run in an Australian summer? How dangerous it is? Heat stroke is real.

Note how the temperature had apparently increased 11 degrees in a couple of hours, before midday. That is Australia.

Anyway, its irrelevant. We can't even be sure she left the house in the first place.

It’s behind a paywall but still readable for me.

Samantha’s family speak about her life growing up.

Thanks they’ll get you.

From the article “Her uncle, Allan Robson, remembered Samantha as a young go-getter, who was driven to make a name for herself.

'Samantha was always going to be someone famous,' he told Daily Mail Australia.

But she couldn't have imagined the cruel way her childhood dreams would come true.”

So sad

I suppose to be fair re. water, we could try to explain some of the conditions in Ballarat.

It's in the mountains, it's pretty high above sea level. Your ears pop on the way up from Melbourne. So it always cools down at night. So when it's cooler in the morning, it's actually nice, even on those hot days.

From pretty much any point in the national parks around town, you could crawl out with a broken leg within half a day.

There's dirt roads through them.

It's not that sticky humid heat where you couldn't naturally cool down without constant hydration.

The bush isn't far at all from the middle of town, which is a major satellite city of Melbourne, with everything a city person might want, even late night shopping.

They even get snow a couple of mornings a year.

She was an experienced runner. VERY unlikely that she would get heatstroke.

Have the police said to look out for a water bottle??

I see people running alot without a water bottle.

You seem to making alot of blanket statements IMO

The police have said over & over that she left the property.

All IMO

The water bottle has no relevance to why Sam is missing IMO or the "poo" in the bag.

Yes, we can be sure she left the house. Police have stated she left the house and have verified it by reviewing the family video camera's. They aren't going to submit the FULL video just the one clip that shows the most identifiers for those to be on the lookout.

if they have said it over and over, yet (allegedly) have no idea which route she took, it doesn't mean much.

Sniffer dogs shouldve been able to trace her route but apparently they havent or if they have, its being withheld.

Someone should have seen her. She was near the forest but still in the burbs.

Hence the problem. Missing.

Biggest lack of clues is if she ever actually left the property.

Specialist Search Dogs.

Not sure if this has been brought up and is still correct but according to this article and the Vic Pol website, Cadaver police search dogs are only located in NSW & QLD. Vic Pol use German Shepherds .

Cadaver dogs:

Vic Pol website:

People keep mentioning Cadaver dogs but it doesn’t look like this is an option in Victoria. They might have used other specialist dog units from the Army or SAR teams but I’m not sure if these are options in Victoria either.

But how can they 'know' she actually left the property when police don't know which way she went? She might have been going to the letter box to collect the morning newspaper. No proof of which way she went, indicates to me that they Didn't see her leave at all.
