The most recent case on the Victorian Missing Persons list is not from this decade. The other page is breaking news. It is no longer breaking news after a week. It is why it has expired.

The list of missing persons isn't automatically updated.

She’s not on the Australian Federal police register either . Not sure if that means anything at all

I checked out the VicPol FB page. They still have posts from the 8th and 9th regarding SM. So it hadn't been a complete wipe of info.
The vic pol media updates tend to disappear after 7 days automatically. I’ll have to check with vic pol , however this seems to be normal… I’m not holding my breath for an update unfortunately.

I also wondered if maybe the family wanted them removed…? But then I think “why wouldnt they want to keep her name at the forefront of everyone’s minds.” I can’t make sense of any of it. Id love to be a fly on the wall at VicPol (or maybe I wouldn’t)
As I commented earlier, media statements on vic pol website, do sometimes vanish after a week or so. But I will have to check this to be certain…( I will ask a serving member)
However, in my experience, media releases do seem to disappear after a certain time … not for any nefarious reasons, just because.

Same here, but the links still go to the 'does not exist page', twitter too. Plus, you can no longer comment on any existing post.
Its currently arguably Australia's highest profile case so I find it hard to accept that the omission is just an IT glitch, still possible.

Maybe they are trying to avoid the overstretching of comments as was seen in the Nicole Bully case....

I think it is because the "comments" can get really obnoxious, when nothing is being reported.
Her name is not going away, just the mechanism that keeps collecting posts....for no real good reason. again I say.... like we saw in Nicole Bully's case........

My husband is the same age, we both have Apple Watches and he would have absolutely no clue. He uses it to tell the time and check his heart rate.
Exactly the same with my husband to.

My two teenage children share their location with me just so I can keep a check on where they are - I wouldn’t dream of doing the same to my husband as he’s a grown adult!

I am speculating that she has been found. Unsure if alive or deceased. The reason for no disclosure is that a very real threat may exist to her children until the perpetrator is captured. One other theory behind Police removing info from the web may be because it was easily accessible by schoolmates of SM's children and was deemed by police to have served it's initial purpose and was no longer playing a role in the investigation. Another thing is I do not think there is any perceived danger of a killer at large because Federation University has been hosting high school children on school camps the last week and a half and they have done night bush walks supervised of course. No warnings were issued to students or schools attending.
I don’t think family & police would be appealing for information on tonight’s news if she’d been found. … but please God she will be very soon. I can’t begin to imagine living with the pain of the unknown.

I wish she had been found but with the family still doing appeals I can’t see that being the case now.

The police (I’m not familiar with Australian police but I’d assume they’d follow similar procedures) would usually want the announcement to be made quickly after the discovery as they wouldn’t want anybody potentially searching in the area anymore and either destroying evidence or getting injured themselves.

My thoughts go to Samantha’s family and friends - I’m sure they’ve all began to realise now that this is very unlikely to have a happy ending now that it’s been so long. I hope they get some answers soon.

Could she have shared hers ?
Of course. However if she had then they would have her location or her last location before he phone died or was turned off. It’s possible the police have this information. IMO

I share my location with my teenage kids but my husband and I don’t share ours with each other.

Yes this could be some extra helpful information for the police including the ping from her phone, we don't know if the police have also picked up someone else's ping at the same time near hers.

I remember with little Cleo Smith how crucial that one tower with one solitary phone ping was in solving the case.

The Digital Forensics specialists, includes forensic acquisition and analysis of computer systems and electronic media, are amazing clever people. Their work will be highly sought in this case
