The 22-year-old Ballarat man was arrested shortly after 6am on Wednesday at his home.

"We understand that there is a continued high level of interest in this investigation and concern about Samantha's disappearance, however it remains critical that any speculation does not impede any aspects of the investigation," a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

You and me both. I had errands to run this afternoon, but on second thought, they can wait until tomorrow.

Are arrest logs/prisoner information public record in Australia or do we have to wait until they tell us who this man is?

IMO , the age suggests more people involved, which the police were thinking about as well

They will probably tell us if/when they lay charges. imo

It is good that it looks like police may have a suspect firmly in place at least given the arrest.

Is it
RANDOM?????
Perhaps it was a hit and run etc as speculated by some? Bikie link and organised crime? Random attack?

Could you please link The Age article you are reading.

I am not sure what type of building this is but seems well secured with high barbwire fence. It is otherwise a very simple looking building and has an antenna on top of it I can't zoom in enough to make out this signs. One sign has a logo that someone may be able to identify.

If it was some sort of electricity sub station, wouldn't there be a lot of high voltage warning signs?
Yes it would have lots of signage. I'm pretty sure it's a water monitoring station for the water tower nearby.
