Maybe he went on strike... won't come out of his cell, won't follow Barristers instructions, won't give his Barrister instructions, won't table his Notification of Alibi, won't put his shoes on. won't shave, won't won't .. and so on. All these things are just as possible as him turning up for his zoom, showered, shaved, haircut, dressed, tie, shirt, with all his paperwork. .. :D

Now we know ( sort of ) where the trial will take place.....

''The jury trial of a man charged over the murder of missing mum Samantha Murphy will take place in the country Victorian region where she vanished. ''

That jury trial has been pencilled in to be held in Ballarat at a yet-to-be-determined time.

Judicial registrar Tim Freeman told prosecutors and Stephenson's defence Ballarat was the appropriate jurisdiction for the trial unless someone makes a specific application to have it moved to Melbourne.

On Friday, the Supreme Court heard prosecutors had struggled to disclose all of the trial material to Stephenson's defence due to delays involved in analysing the contents of Ms Murphy's phone.

Detectives have been told to disclose everything needed for the trial by February, when the matter will return to court for another administrative hearing. ''

It is understood the focus of finding out what was on that phone put everything else in the investigation on hold.

Detectives have been told to disclose everything needed for the trial by February, when the matter will return to court for another administrative hearing.

It is then when it will be made clear if prosecutors plan to try and have the trial moved to Melbourne.

Anything on the alibi?

How grim to also be in remand over Christmas.
Paul Kelly’s “How to Make Gravy” is now playing in my head.

absolutely not.,. the notification is that he HAS an alibi, not the actual alibi, that is for his trial... the Prosecutor has the right, on behalf of us all, to cross examine his alibi. . which, he either gives in person, or his barrister gives it, it's not a thing that is laid out in the Hearing... Today, he had to notify the court, that, he had an alibi that he had witnesses to, or evidence of, that he would be calling witnesses who would testify, how many of those, approx how long he expected them to be on the stand. ( A dicey guess ) .. the court is gathering up a timetable for the trial.. who does this, how long it takes, how far do witnesses have to travel, security, and so on. Housekeeping!!

There are worse places to spend Xmas!.. he could be in Gen Pop next year at Port Philip Correctional.... !! not a lot of tinsel and reindeers going on there!!!

Would he rather trade places with Samantha? :(
Goes without asking, but now, who knows? It’s just such a profoundly futile act of thoughtless destruction that irrevocably impacts so many and benefits none (unless you count the single positive outcome of removing perps from public life to prevent further harm).

The waste of everything is outrageous.. time, money, people, children, even Samantha's poor Hungarian Vistula, that's what this murder set in motion.

and look, Rocket, ------ >>>>>>He was represented by defence barrister Moya O’Brien as judicial registrar Tim Freeman adjourned the case until the new year for a further directions hearing.

'''''Directions hearings are the first stage in the trial process and allow a judicial officer to oversee the management and direction of the case.

Details of what was discussed cannot be reported under Victorian law.

Mr Stephenson will return to court on February 18, 2025, more than a year after Ms Murphy's disappearance.''''''

And I blame 🤬🤬🤬 for that too - it wouldn't have happened if the Murphy's normal routine hadn't been destroyed.

So the accused has an alibi despite the police having a vast amount of evidence (according to them) and he hasn't once applied for bail? Makes me think who would be silly enough to provide an alibi if it wasn't true.

He could allege that he was sleeping the night off in his ute in Woowookarung to avoid a traffic offence, and that he toddled off home around 8.30am and didn’t notice a thing. Gf may confirm that he was snoring on the couch by 9am, or when she woke up.

He’s aware of the evidence, so if he’s guilty as charged, he could take advantage of the perceived weaker links and grey areas I guess.

If he does throw in an alibi, and is guilty, is it reasonable to think that there’s no visual recording of the crime?

Do we know if notice of an alibi has been provided?

Yay to news of Ballarat and to Moya. I’m so happy it’s happening there and that he’s still got Moya, and Michael. He won’t be able to tell the home crowd he was stitched up.
The loss of Ruby on top of Sam, is indescribably heartbreaking.

Yes, the P O S appeared in the Supreme Court in Melbourne. Media have reported that he appeared…. but the reports haven’t actually said if it was via video link or in person. The matter is due back in the Supreme Court on 18th February, 2025.

The press reports can't say if he appeared in person or not because the hearing was not open to the press.

The magistrate at the previous hearing in Ballarat notified the press that the hearing in the SC in Melbourne for the Notification would be closed to the press.. So it was no surprise to the press.

,... no indication that the next hearing, Feb 18th is closed... As I read it, it seems that VICPOL can table more evidence they may find up until that hearing...
