SAR searches for cell phone

I don't believe it says anywhere that TH had been using Verizon. It says the friends each had Verizon service, so they got AT&T to use while they were at TH's home.

Well this just sounds stupider than ever then. Her friends got disposeable phones to use while they were at her house? To call who? They couldn't use Terris land line phone in her home, because why? It was possibly tapped? What secrecy existed among her friends in their outgoing calls that required the use of different pones? This is suspicious sounding as well as stupid. Hope LE is coming down HARD on all involved in this escapade.

So are people suggesting that not only did she have involvement in this but her friends who got the phones also are involved? Just trying to figure this all out and separate fact from speculation.

I'm just not so sure this whole phone thing is anything but dumb, depending upon when they were acquired...so I guess we will have to wait and see when that was. If it was June 4th...then it does point to at least some sort of complicity in something, to me. If it was June 28th or after, not so much.

I agree with matou.. it is a combination of one newsoutlet piggybacking off the next... and changing a word here and there until it is FUBAR as my DH would say.

FWIW, I even tried to email the fox reporter and the mailbox is full so my message gets sent back to me. Aint that nice?
Her box is probably filled with people asking her the same question. If what she wrote is not true, that would be really embarrassing that people following the case on the internet know more than she apparently does.

She obviously had some sort of service on her original cell phone if she and MC were able to do their 'thang' while she was at the house...

No one else seems to reporting the "big news" that the cell phones were purchased on June 4th...I am finding it hard to believe that every local media outlet would not recognize that as big news...

.......right. Which would support the statement the friends made that THEY had Verizon, which doesn't work in the Sheltered Nook Area where Terri was living.

1. The only kind of "untraceable" cell phone is the one where you buy minutes on a card....and there would be no reason to use a "fake name" since you don't need a name to get one!

2. If you get an AT&T cell phone, its usually with some type of plan....and then you must show your picture ID to get set up. Also, you must give proof of name and address. You could use a fake name and ID, I guess....but the number is traceable.

This story about the untraceable phones and a fake names makes absolutely no sense.

And she said they were bought with cash. The only thing it could be, is that they used a fake name when setting up online accounts to activate the phones? In that case--does AT&T even have prepaid disposable phones?

If the phone was bought by Terri on June 4, maybe, but only maybe, I could understand looking in the area of the school and S.I., but barely. If they were purchased later, as we were led to believe, why on earth would anyone return to a scene of the crime to dispose of the phone?

I agree with the above post though. When a child is missing, there is nothing that needs to be discussed away from LE so badly as to call for new phones. Meet, have lunch to talk about your marriage or whatever.

Who has had to pay for these hours of searching and interrogating these people? The tax payers. I would like to see these people charged with something when this is all said and done. How dare they detract or hide any information? This is not, nor has it ever been about them. It's about Kyron.

They have withdrawn their support for Terri. Not one that I have read has mentioned Kyron. Not one of them.

ATT has the gophone plans which are their no contract buy at the local store variety.

Here is a pretty good link that describes the AT&T activation steps (doesn't look like you need to enter a name):

AT&T has a prepaid cell phone call a Go Phone. I think you are asked to provide a name when you activate it. It is apparently easy to use a fake name to activate them though.

So you think that these type of ATT gophone plan phones can be purchased at variety stores, how about at grocery stores:waitasec: I`m wondering about the 90 minute drive now and whether the drive was to do something other than help an earache. Hmmmmm JMO

BBM

Not true. I live in Pdx and have an AT&T "prepaid" phone. I am and old fashioned type who doesn't like chatting on cell phones, so I use a cell mainly when I'm lost or late or have car trouble. For as little as a use a cell phone, the prepaid is much cheaper than a monthly plan. I can add minutes by either walking into an AT&T store (they are all over) and giving them cash (or credit card) or by calling a number and using my credit card. A relative purchased the phone for me because they were tired of not being able to get ahold of me.

I know our local grocery stores, CVS and Target all have them. The Quickstop and 7-11 does too.

Is it fact or rumour that DeDe left her work on June 4th without her cellphone and was not reachable for 90 minutes...TIA

They are available at Wal-Mart, so I would imagine you could get them at a variety of locations, not just the AT&T store.
