How does a gun get into an assisted living facility?

No one makes you go through a metal detector to go visit people. I don't even think that they go through your stuff when you move in.

Maybe that will change now.

Maybe they were both residents at the facility and she is also suffering from Dementia. As a daughter of two parents with this disease
IMO
What is so strange is Harriett posted a photo of them out on the golf course a year ago. They both looked very healthy. I wonder if this case will go to trial. Wasn't she arrested? If she had dementia, would she be put the jail?

Yes strange although something like a stroke could have rendered him incapacitated very quickly.
However the term assisted living facility made me think they were still independent but in a flat with a warden for example rather than 24 hour care.
Not sure if that’s a thing in the U.S?
I can vouch that the police were involved with my parents when frustration caused one to push the other. No where near as serious as this and guns are not a thing over here.

So it sounds like DR was admitted to the medical facility the day prior to the shooting. Also sounds like HR was suffering mentally/financially. Her note is very disjointed.
Also the case will be going to a grand jury.

suspect asked for an attorney, but she also reportedly said, “He was a good man” and that this was a sad situation.

Deputies found a note in her purse referencing her health and the hard time she was going through. An identical note was later discovered along with financial documents at her home, and a similar note was sent to her neighbor.

A portion of the note, read by an investigator in court, stated: “To you all, this has just been too much for me. I so wish I could do it with the wonderful family we have, so many good friends. We can’t have a life without someone, and that someone can’t be me, as I am not strong enough or smart enough to do all this.”

Recker’s bond was set at $50,000 with the condition that Recker “may live with son in Hawaii” and that she “shall not be released except into custody of A.E.” (initials to protect the identity)
