Good job from the jury to arrive at (IMO) the correct verdict in a confusing and sometimes confusingly presented case.

Other dominos should and will fall, but this was the right call.

Do they have a piano in prison? Maybe he will need to learn to play a harmonica.

I was not surprised of the little emotion. I felt that he was definitely holding back as to not give anyone any hint that he might be devastated.

Jury finds Hughes guilty of murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, burglary first degree, harassment second degree, and conspiracy to commit harassment second degree.

The jury did not find Hughes guilty of first degree harassment or conspiracy to commit harassment first degree.

They got it right!
Juries always seem to see through the fluff.

Wonder what Mello will think of that? It doesn't bode well for his case, imo.

Her sister's statement was quite impactful.

Zachary Hughes has entered the courtroom for sentencing. When he entered, he looked at his parents and mouthed, "thank you" before sitting down.

Walt Wilkins tells the court the State is seeking a life sentence for the murder. Christina Parcell's sister, Tina, is speaking.

Tina tells the judge she is exhausted after the events of yesterday when she had to relive the two worst days of her life.

"He recounted step by step in excruciating detail everything he did. Did he cry? Did he shake? Did he look visibly distressed?" - Tina Parcell

There has been no remorse, none shown from the defendant in this courtroom.

"Without remorse there is no rehabilitation.”

"He was given a target on a silver platter. He was given an address, a date and a time.”

There are two options: either he is a weak, easily manipulated man... or he's not. If that's the case, he will do this again.

"He planned it so much, he thought, 'Well even when I got caught, I can still get out of this.’"

"All of these men did nothing but use my sister. John Mello used her to create a whole new family."

The father of Zachary Hughes is now addressing the court.

Father of Zachary Hughes apologizes to sister of Christina Parcell:
The father of Zachary Hughes told the judge that his son wrote him a letter about a month ago explaining what he did, just like he did on the stand, and why he felt he had to kill Parcell. He also directly addressed Tina, the sister of Christina Parcell and apologized. He then apologized to the judge and acknowledged that he is not supposed to directly address Tina.

Mello.
I expect he will also be tried? Soliciting murder, hiring a hit man, actual murder since it was his idea?

After the trial, defense attorney Andrew Moorman told the media in a brief statement that they plan to appeal.

I can only hope that the other two men in this debacle are convicted. Mello gets maximum, hopefully. Post gets maximum if the evidence is what has been reported. We will never know what was participated in by this victim as we can never hear her side. It is clear that this young child was victimized in so many ways. I hope she has a solid support system and gets the help she will need to move on from this.

I hated every second of listening to his father and what he had to say in his defense. Ick.

Does life in prison mean without parole in South Carolina?
