America Under Siege? 'Creepy' Clown Reports and Hoaxes Keep Coming

by Alex Johnson

It's a menace stalking America — a menace called "clowning."

In something like a dog chasing its tail, more clowns are being sighted across the country as news organizations (NBC News among them) have chronicled sightings of clowns — invariably described as "creepy."

So many, in fact, that the website Atlas Obscura has launched a useful interactive map to help you keep track of them.

In a widely cited survey, the polling firm Rasmussen reported in 2014 that 43 percent of Americans "don't like" clowns. More recently, the annual Chapman University Survey of American Fears found that clowns were a cause of significant anxiety for 6.8 percent of Americans in 2015...

Now they're some sad things known to man
But ain't too much sadder than
The tears of a clown when there's no one around.

I don't know about anyone else, but I always thought mimes were a bit creepier than clowns. They are eerily silent, wear morbid prison stripe shirts, and can distract you with their hands long enough to hit you or steal your wallet. Their make up looks like Bah-Ghuul from the movie Sinister. :scared:

We had a rash of ding dong ditches in my neighborhood a few nights ago. They hit our house at 4am, banging the door so hard, I called the cops thinking someone was breaking in. It wasn't a typical ding dong ditch. Responding deputy said some had reported a clown mask on one of the apparent teens who were doing this. We are a town away from the Indian Trail clown, so I guess the kids are taking advantage of the clown hysteria locally. I wonder how clown mask sales are doing?

Well it's all gone badly wrong here in Yorkshire - an elderly gentleman has died of a heart attack this afternoon a couple of miles from me. Someone jumped out at him wearing a mask and there was a verbal altercation, following which the old man went into a pub and collapsed. So far I've read it was either a clown or Hallowe'en mask.

Either/or, it has to stop. I had purposely not said anything to my kids about the clown thing, but they have both come home from school today talking about clowns and feeling worried.

Oh, the police have now said that although the person was wearing a mask the old man wasn't frightened by it and it's not believed it caused his heart attack. Problem is the guy in the mask had been bothering other people beforehand and so he got blamed. I have no doubt there will be plenty more clown related stories to come!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/10/12/man-dressed-as-batman-chases-killer-clowns-in-cumbria/

12 October 2016 • 6:09pm A 'killer clown' craze is sweeping Britain, with police warning people against dressing as clowns in order to intimidate or harm people.
Now, the craze has taken a change for the strange in Cumbria, where a man is dressing as Batman and vowing to chase down the creepy clowns.
A photograph has been shared on Facebook of 'Batman' seemingly chasing off a killer clown.
BBC Cumbria reported local company Cumbria Superheroes is behind the effort to rid the streets of clowns.
They have reassured that the costumed man is not a vigilante, but just trying to reassure local children who are scared of the 'killer clowns'.

Stay safe.

Things are getting out of hand. If McD's is affected we know things have gone too far.

It wont be long now as people will take matters in their own hands and one of these clowns is going to get shot or hit with a baseball bat. With halloween coming up I suppose a lot of kids will be avoiding clown costumes. Just too risky this year which is sad for the kids. That was always a popular costume.

Yes. I had to LOL as I had always heard it as "ring and run".

Its so funny to hear how other parts of the country and parts of the world have different terms for the same thing.
I really got a kick out of that today.
