GUILTY SC - Devon Epps, 7, murdered, Greenville, 12 Aug 2007

I can't get the link to work - what did it say?

Wow that's weird. I saw it yesterday. And when I went to look at greenvilleonline I couldn't find anything that wasn't hidden behind log-ins etc. But I found the cached article, sorry for the format though: http://tinyurl.com/2e9f92

Amanda Raegan Smith sat silently, her eyes and face twitching, as a prosecutor on Wednesday accused her of murder and argued that the Greenville mother’s story of how a bearded, knife-wielding carjacker smothered her son with a pillow "doesn’t make any sense."
In court today, prosecutor Cheryl Aaron presented circumstantial evidence that Smith killed her son, Devon Epps, on a late August night along a dark Greenville County back road. The prosecution spent the morning, in painstaking detail, poking holes in Smith’s story and citing forensic evidence that it said points all responsibility for the killing back to her. Smith’s defense attorney, John Mauldin, challenged the prosecution’s claims but declined to ask a judge to dismiss the charge, saying that the case should go to trial "where the truth of this matter can come out." Magistrate Harold Grimsley, presiding over the preliminary hearing to determine the case’s merit, passed the charges along for a grand jury to consider for indictment.

I have just read this thread for the first time. My heart breaks for poor Devon and I have to believe he's in a better place now. But I could shout with joy to the rooftops that his mother is in jail and will stay there!

Her eyes and face twitching-I think it would be the hand of God if her tics were accelerated because of this...she despised her son for his obvious challenges...wouldn't it be just like God to visit the same ailment on her so she can see her son whenever she looks in the mirror? just an observation....

Very good statement believe09!! I totally agree. Of course, I'd probably have a nerbous twitch too if I was finally going to be served justice for a murder I knew I commited. Maybe it's the Texan in me saying this-but there is only one form of justice for a child killer in my opinion.

Thinking of dear  Devon.

Respectfully,

Oh, Dark Shadows! Thank you so much!!! You are one of the people in this world that personifies "goodness" IMHO. I appreciate you being here so much, and I truly send hope and blessings for the recent loss in your own close circle.

I don't know why, but Devon kept popping into my brain tonight. I hope his family is doing ok.

Reminds of Diane Downs. Poor little Devon.

Bumping this thread.

Wondering if anyone has any news at all on this case. I had heard a rumor that February may be the trial month, but we all know how rumors are and I'm not sure where to start to find out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for bumping this thread lovelabs. I haven't heard anything recently, or been able to find any news updates. This case was one of the most tragic, and obviously bogus cases ever!! Amanda deserves punishment greater than anything she will receive here on earth for what she did. Every time I look at little Devon's picture, my heart just aches for him.

I read this thread beginning to end, having never heard of the case. WOW. 1st time I have had this sort of experience with WS. It makes me glad to be a member. Reannan especially, thank you for the work put in it. The bond thing freaked me out. I had a higher bond for, well let's just say drug-related. No children were involved but there was violence. Anyhow, I had never heard a murder case with a bond before. I guess I have a good bit more to learn. Anyhow, kudos for painting such a bittersweet tale with everyone's comments. The only 'sweet' part was that sometimes human justice happens.
