GUILTY SC - Devon Epps, 7, murdered, Greenville, 12 Aug 2007

  • #21
I really wish we would all have to eat some crow. BUT I don't tthink so.
As soon as I read the first post, I thought something just doesn't sound right.
I bet her story changes a zillion times. Either she did it, or like someone else said she is covering for a boyfriend.
I hope we are wrong, but I doubt that we are.
So Sad.
I agree, but in an odd way I hope we are right. Either way the poor boy was murdered. If she did it or is some how involved then she is not also a victim. If a hijacker did it, there are more victims out there for him for him to prey upon.

from what i was able to find it takes about 4 minutes for some1 to die from lack of oxygen to the brain. why would a stranger grab a mom and child just to kill the child like this? it was not to take the car because he ran off o foot. what was the mother doing during these 4 minutes? i want to know more about her injuries. unless she was beat to a bloody pulp and knocked out it wont make sense to me. that would not be life threatening but would be the only way i could understand how a man could smother her child and she not stop him.

That's what I was wondering. There is definitely more to this.

God bless that little boy...may he rest in peace.

ROFL That's what I get for staying out all night trying to see meteors shooting through the sky! :slap: (me to me)

That's way more interesting than what I did last night! I'm jealous!

This just makes me sick. And it looks like DCFS at some point gave him BACK to his mother?? Sweet Jesus.

I spent my childhood with these children. My parents were foster parents for hundreds. I remember babies with arms in casts, toddlers with red pockmarked bodies from cigarette burns, and psychological damage you wouldn't believe. We had one kid that loved to have tissues to wipe his nose, but then would hide the tissue back in the box, used. Why? Cause he'd get the crap beat out of him if his parents saw he'd used one.

The "lucky" ones were the older ones who'd made it through childhood. One gal came home a few minutes past curfew. She was locked out and told she didn't live there anymore--period.

I'm so angry right now.

I don't know that the boy in that article is any relation to the 7 yr old murder victim. Just FYI!

Seems an odd coincidence though. And why aren't they mentioning the mother's name in the articles about the murder?

Hmmm I'm with the crowd on this one - something smells. I also like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but in this case.... I'm convinced she's making this story up. Poor little fellow.

Taximom, is the boy from this story called Devon Epps? I don't have time to read the articles now and was wondering how you made the connection with the boy in the picture you posted?

Yes, JanetElaine, his name is the same. Age would be approx the same. Location was Augusta, SC though. So I don't know if it is related or not...

ETA: It isn't the same boy.

Oh my lord, if this is the same child from the article that Taximom just posted above, that just makes this all that much sadder, (not that the whole thing isn't sad to begin with). That poor Aunt that tried to get him. I can't imagine how she's feeling now. Someone in DCFS needs to be held accountable for giving him back to his birth provider (sorry, just can't call that 🤬🤬🤬 a Mom, not even close) if indeed this is that same child.

RIP Devon, you are in the arms of the Angels now.

Investigators said the woman told them the man took a pillow and smothered the child. The Greenville County Coroner's office identified the 7-year-old as Devon Epps.

Watching Devon Epps do a little dance as he sings the ABCs song, it's hard to believe he was fed crack cocaine as a 6-month-old.
this is not that common a name i would think.2 boys the same age with the same name in the south....

Devon's parents have pleaded innocent to the charge of cruelty to children. Investigators contend that his mother fed Devon crack and that his father did not stop her. The case against Larry Epps, 53, and Demetria Wright, 35, is still pending in Richmond County Superior Court.
The mother, who investigators said is 26 years old but who has not been identified, and the boy were taken to the hospital, where the woman was treated and the child was pronounced dead.
these 2 quotes seem to imply it is a diffrent child.

The age would be right and he was in the care of his aunt. This has to be the same boy! How sad, his mother never should have been able to be in touch with him. Don't the Social Services understand about crack? sheesh.

Yipes, you're right, Sherri.

I was wondering the same thing....what was the Mom doing while her son was being smothered? Something doesn't seem right here.

That's a good catch, Sherri. I didn't see that till you pointed that out.

In that case, I have found a male on myspace that practically has this boy's name and is the approx age of the mom. I won't post it till more news comes out about the mother. It might not be related either.

Thanks for spotting that!

Below is a quote from someone in the Greenville online forum:

Well folks i know how people get their rocks off on news stories such as this, but there is no Susan Smith here. I know the mother, child, and the father as well. What the news fails to include is that the mother and child were forced from the car and the frightened child was screaming, the sicko was apparently worried that someone would hear the screams and the child was thrown back into the vehicle and was then smothered. I have a 1 year old and we carry a pillow in the vehicle with us when we travel, who is to say that this isn't the case here. I'm not being a meanie like some others and jump to conclusions here, stay tuned folks. She is an innocent woman that just lost her son. A little sympathy please?

It's also noted she is a nursing student, and was stabbed.
It still sounds a bit "off" to me, tho. Munchausens maybe ?

and now this quote from same place

what everyone doesnt know is that the child was almost lost in a house fire 2 months ago.the fire apparently startrd in his bedroom, and he was in icu fighting for his life then. this time he didnt win the battle it seems .
icon_question.gif
and he didnt take her car ,or try to hurt her this seems kinda fishy.what was this just a man waiting for a car with a woman and a child in it to car jack.take them to a secluded area and somther the child things just do not add up.
