GUILTY SC - Devon Epps, 7, murdered, Greenville, 12 Aug 2007

OK, here is a theory for you guys to mull over. My sister lives in the area, and she actually came up with this one. I am sending her a link to this site tonight. What if the dad was going to have to pay child support, and he didn't want to, so he paid someone to kill his son??? Think about it. He has the perfect alibi for himself this weekend, he is out in the media insinuating the mother did it. If I were working with LE on this case, I would be looking at that sketch in terms of anyone the Dad had ever spent jail time with, or just hung out with. Personally, I believe either the Mother did it, or it was a direct hit on the child. If it was a "car jacking", it was the dumbest one ever.

that explains a few things. like why kill the kid and take nothing. a few problems with the theory.
1. the killer would have to know ahead of time that she would be stopped at the stop sign with the child on that night.
2. the killer would have to trust she would not just hit the gas.
3. the killer would have to know mom would not rip his testicle off and feed them to him the moment he touched the child.

First of all, my guess would be the would be boyfriend. Get the kid out of the way, etc. This story is full of bull. They will get to the truth soon enough! Poor child!!

look at the 2 links. she changed the whole site. it went from all about her having a good time with her friends to about her son. such a shame he was not top on the list before his death.

I think one of her friends wrote the new page for her. :waitasec: Notice the different voices? :(

I guess that theory could fly. I'd have to think about it some more! My main problem would be that the mother has said the perp was locked in the car with the boy, smothering him-----that would be a weird way for a paid contract to be carried out, IMO, but who knows------and then the perp cuts her and runs away. I just think if he had a knife, he'd have stabbed the child. Quicker, easier done and he could have been out of there faster.

I think she's cut because (IMO) after she killed her child, she couldn't very well halfway smother herself and have it look like the guy tried to kill her the same way, so she had to come up with a way she could get hurt "defending" her son and still survive to report the boy's death.

If they never find this vanishing mystery guy - do you suppose they'll have enough evidence to go after her for this?

I also thought it would have been wierd to use a pillow when you have a knife. But then again, the pillow means you can run off and not have blood all over you.

Investigators have received nearly two dozen tips from the public -- and want more -- as they search for whoever killed a 7-year-old boy whose mother said he was killed by a knife-wielding carjacker, a spokesman for the Greenville County Sheriff's Office said today. Among the tips that deputies have investigated is that a sketch distributed after the Devon Epps' killing matched a homeless man often seen in the White Horse Road area, said Lt. Shea Smith. But the investigation hasn't narrowed to focus on that one man, he said. (more at link)

I'm sorry but I had to chuckle about a comment left at the Greenville online site. They said they thought the sketch looked like one of the Geico cavemen.

I think we should keep in mind that a lot of "paid contract" murders consist of picking up a crack addict, asking them if they'll do it, and paying them in drugs. Who knows what could happen.
I'm still extrememly curious about the fire that they had a few months ago, has anyone found anything else on that? Also-the media coverage seems a bit sparse for such an odd murder-doesn't it?

I haven't had any luck finding news about the fire on the internet. There were friend comments as of May 2nd on her cached blog that mentioned "glad you and Devon are ok", and I'm assuming that's around when the fire was. I think in the video with the father it was mentioned that Devon woke her up and saved her life. He may have been playing with fire if it truly started in his room (can't remember where I heard that though). I thought I heard he suffered severe burns and was hospitalized.

You'd think that would be somewhere in their local news coverage archives.

It does! It looks like a combination of Devon's father and the Geico cavemen.

The "perp" should be easy to find then!
So easy a caveman can do it.

Thank you Taximom-I'm having a really hard time finding anything too!
I saw mention on the first few pages here that the mother's name is Amanda Epps, does anyone know if that's right? I tried looking at some of the news articles but it seems all of them only refer to her as "the mother"

I've seen Amanda mentioned in the comments at Greenville online but I don't know if Epps is her last name. Were they married?

:p Seriously though, I think the perp is right under their noses.

Justice for Devon.

I certainly hope you're right-but I also hope it isn't the Mom:(

Taximom found her myspace so she must know her name. I would ask her.
