Southsleuth,

I'm here in Irmo, SC and was just as horrified when this broke. How this could have gone on for a week without even us locals knowing about it? Not even a BOLO?

Aren't Amber Alerts designed to solicit the public's help? If children are missing they are MISSING!! It doesn't matter which parent/relative they're with. If said parent, custodial or not, can't be contacted to produce or verify the well-being of their children, an Amber Alert should be issued!

I was so pizzed yesterday I had to leave this thread or I probably would have been put in time-out for 3 years. I'm still highly pizzed today, and the constant coverage makes it even worse. Where was the coverage when it may have done some good?

Dear. God.

Those poor babies.

O/T I grew up in Ohio. My first "boyfriend" lived down the street until he moved away in third or fourth grade....to Irmo, SC.

Okay. So I just read the DSS reports. I am beyond disgusted. Granted, I am not a social worker/case worker. However, I do have the common sense God gave me and I don't think I could have left those children in that home with a good conscience for most of those visits! I don't know what the minimum standards are that have to be met in order to leave the children in the home, but evidently the bar is set pretty d*mn low! Just WOW!

Yes, those kids should have been in foster care or with other relatives

When he has cocaine on him, and burglarizes... he just "made a mistake". When he murders his children and dumps them in a field in Alabama, "He's a really good dad."

I have the feeling his parents are the enabling type.

Yup, you got that right. Beyond denial.

Shades of Cindy Anthony. At least they haven't called him "father of the year" yet

I noticed in the divorce filings, the wife didn't have an attorney to represent her. I have a feeling she didn't have the funds to fight him on anything, including custody of the kids.

I can imagine being overwhelmed being a single parent to 5 kids 8yrs and under, HOWEVER, there was help available. Taking drugs does not, will not, has not, and will never HELP the situation!!! My thoughts towards him changed reading those divorce papers, the files from the social workers, and what's been revealed via MSM since my initial feelings. His statements of wanting a fresh start...moving to another state, etc., for some reason I get the thought that he felt if it told those in that area he was moving to another state for a fresh start, then no one would be looking for those children except their Mom. I couldn't make all the hand written stuff on the divorce pdf, but it looked like to me that joint custody was written in instead of him having full custody. Obviously the Mom was going to want to see her kids on her visitation days. And I believe there was a hand written clause stating neither was to have another partner present during times the kids were there. Unless Mom has remarried, I'm not sure how that was being enforced if at all, since MSM has stated she was still with the neighbor she had left her husband for.

I don't want to dwell on how the children were killed. I only wanted to say that when he left, he had told a neighbor he was leaving, and the neighbors went into the home, commented on the clothes, toys and diapers left behind. Maybe they saw a crime scene but it wasn't mentioned in that article.

Am I reading the reports correctly in that the children were dead a week BEFORE he went on his driving spree??? How in the heck do you have decomposing bodies in the vehicle that you're driving around, eating in, and sleeping in??? EEEKKK!! Obviously his thinking was off, and most likely due to the drug use. I don't think an insanity deal will work. He knew it was wrong or he wouldn't have left with the bodies in his vehicle, nor threw them out in trash bags like trash. :tantrum:

There seem to have been plenty of red flags and failed safety nets here. Again.

AP: SC dad accused in 5 deaths was ex-con
http://fox10tv.com/2014/09/11/ap-sc-dad-accused-in-5-deaths-was-ex-con/

"For the crime spree and cocaine possession, he received concurrent six-year terms, and had a year tacked on for another stolen vehicle charge."

"Jones was imprisoned at Big Muddy Correctional Center on April 18, 2002, and was released on Jan. 15, 2003, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records."

Despicable human being. I don't care what he ever did right in his life, but what he did so wrong. Five children, five children, FIVE CHILDREN!

He only actually did 8 mos. in a Correctional Center? Then, he got a second chance and despite lucky breaks, he didn't give his own children a chance at a good life or any life at all.
