Not exactly.

http://time.com/10372/marijuana-deaths-german-study/

It killed the people who ingested it. Just goes to show too much of anything isn't good for you.

I was using hyperbole to make a point and give people a smile in the middle of a very tense thread. Obviously, anything can kill, but at this rate, molasses floods have a higher documented death toll in the US than natural marijuana. :)

Those were interesting articles though, thank you.

It says she moved in with a male neighbor .. Not blaming her at all, but I wonder with a good lawyer if he didn't claim she abandoned her kids ... I think this was all out of spite. The fact she moved in with a male neighbor probably ticked him off ... Just my opinions
I agree. Courts in South Carolina recognize four “fault” grounds for divorce, Adultery and Desertion being two of them. If the mother moved into the neighbor's house (possibly trying to get away from the father-if he is capable of what he just did, she may have had reasons to leave), that could be construed as desertion. The Adultery goes without saying. The divorce papers do not mention either of those things and he may have been willing to let her have an non-messy divorce in exchange for being the custodial parent. JMO.

Spice and the synthetics are totally different and extremely dangerous. I can't understand any educated person wanting to try it. Surprised this man didn't kill himself. MOO, wish those children were alive and he was dead.

"One of the original chemists who designed synthetic cannabis for research purposes, John W. Huffman, PhD once said that he couldn’t imagine why anyone would try it recreationally. Because of its deadly toxicity, he likened it to playing Russian roulette, and said that those who tried it must be “idiots.”

"1. It’s much more efficient at binding and acting in the brain"
"One reason that synthetic cannabis can trigger everything from seizures to psychosis is how it acts in the brain..."

Sorry but if my husband had violent tendencies no way would I leave without the kids

Yeah, but it's not like anyone purposefully tried to get flooded by molasses :)

I agree with you, too. But he may not have had violent tendencies, he may just have been a lousy husband at that time. I was thinking of all the other cases where some parent was trying to get back at the other (divorced) parent by killing or taking the kids. Something must have been wrong with the marriage to start with, or they wouldn't have ended up divorced. Most times, it wasn't anything violent that caused the break up, but it sure got violent after the divorce.

I guess...I left my emotionally abusive ex in fear when I started to be afraid oh him no way would I have left my dd with him. Maybe she wasn't afraid of him and it was something else

I have same situation. Thanks for sharing. These bad ex's don't care about hurting the kids. Even 6 years later, mine still using our sons to hurt me. What he doesn't realize is that he can't hurt me anymore. But he knows hurting my sons will hurt me. Selfish SOB. :(

Yes!! Oh my gosh .. I'm so sorry!! Mine threatens to "take them" (abduction?) .. He knows he can't play hardball with me anymore. But my kids, are my world! And he throws out, so far, empty threats. Doesn't make it any easier .. I use to park up front and get escort into my job based on threats from him. only4justice .. Hang in there!! And don't back down ever for your kid's sake! :heartluv:

I agree unless you're trapped. Once he harmed my daughter, I was done. I always stayed because I feared him being alone with them, and he wasn't abusive towards them. So i felt like if i was there, they were safe. Sometimes, we feel trapped. I have so much compassion for this lady. I lived in fear for my own life for years, and .. It was hell!

Timothy Ray Jones killed five of his own children. That is really beyond the pale. The family was involved in a bitter divorce case. This screams the death penalty. :furious:

I agree, why would a mother want to leave her young children with a abusive man? I really am surprised she didn't get full custody, I'd like to know why...

Timothy Ray Jones Jr. - whom authorities say has confessed to killing his children ages 1-8 - was given primary custody after a family therapist called him well-qualified for that role.. Amber Jones, 28, whom records say was a homemaker who didn't drive, agreed to that arrangement as part of the divorce granted Oct. 14, 2013...

That settlement came after a report from the therapist described Jones as a "highly intelligent, responsible father" who cared deeply about his children. He is "very detailed, action-oriented, and focused on his children," the report said. "When Mr. Jones sees an obstacle, he sets his sights on the solution and is willing to go through the often difficult process of achieving his goal of resolution"...

In addition, the report said, state social services officials investigated Amber Jones' alleged neglect of the children in September 2011... That investigation happened before divorce proceedings started. Timothy Jones was quoted in the report as saying she "had not been taking care of the house or the kids. Mrs. Jones did not clean their home or feed the children in an acceptable manner."

The Joneses also were just getting by financially near the end of their marriage, records in the divorce agreement said.

Household expenses and debt consumed most of the salary of nearly $72,000 a year that Timothy Jones earned as a computer engineer at a local office of Intel Corp., records show. At the time of the divorce, Timothy Jones listed $658 in the bank and his Amber Jones listed nothing, records show.

The family had lived in Lexington County since at least mid-2012, records show. The parents were married in suburban Chicago in June 2004, records say.

<snip>

Thanks for posting this. Somehow I missed this the first time I read that article. Paranoia from drug use?

I once met a woman who was so completely messed up on drugs that she had all kinds of crazy stories. I met her once she'd been clean for several years, but I was in shock at some of the stuff that happened. The worst one I remember was she held her husband and kids hostage with an assault rifle in their garage. She didn't remember where she got the gun, but remembers sort of 'snapping out of it' when her oldest daughter was sobbing and saying "Mommy please don't shoot us." She thought her kids were plotting to kill her, too, so that really jumped out at me in this case. When she first became halfway aware of what was going on she thought she was just pointing her fingers at them. As she became more coherent, she realized she had a serious weapon in her hands, and no idea where she got it (thank goodness whatever she was on wore off when it did). Drugs have always been awful but I swear they are becoming worse and worse. "Bath Salts," "Spice," easy to make homemade meth, painkillers, cheaper and purer-than-ever heroin... the list goes on and on. It's terrifying what it does to people, and those who love them.

These poor kids. I feel like they never had a chance. My heart really goes out to the grandparents too. They lost not only their grandkids but also basically lost their son, all in one fell swoop.

When will it end??

I opened up each media article, with the inital intent of pulling some quotes, but I'm drained. Innocent defenseless babies. Why didn't he just kill himself? If he was hallucinating and thought the kids were going to kill him, then why didn't he call police, or family or reach out for help? It's even scarier to think it could happen to anyone. The majority of society have some type of mental illness, IMO. Too many are seeking out drugs. I don't know if the state of the economy, the instability of our country, the lack of medical care available, the stigma of mental illness, the short term stays in psych even after family has fought tooth and risked death of loved one to get them help, combinations of above, I just don't know. but we need to find a solution, and fast! At the rate we're losing our generation of children, we won't have to worry about a war, or anything else, we'll have eliminated the population on our own.

I'm this <,> close to eliminating direct Tv, and the internet, and live in my own bubble. No matter how diligent neighbors, schools, family, etc are in reporting abuse, and see the gut feeling red flags, it's not saving people. Adults, teens, toddlers, babies, and entire families are either missing, or murdered every single day. Why can't our govt see this and HELP ??? We're becoming a 3rd world country!! A country where SLAVERY is back!!! Where the shock of parents killing their kids is fading. It's almost become 'normal' for us to see where a case is heading within the first few media reports! THIS IS WRONG!!!

Sorry for my rant folks....

BBM Who was this woman? What does that mean?

Parents of 5 slain Lexington County children had troubled marriage
http://www.islandpacket.com/2014/09/10/3305696_divorce-records-show-parents-of.html?rh=1

"...a mobile home where Amber Jones later received divorce papers, a woman ordered reporters off the land."

"She declined to speak about the case, saying “I know who Tim was and you are making him out to be something that he wasn’t.” She would not identify herself."

http://www.selmatimesjournal.com/20...e-about-father-charged-with-killing-children/

Jones had moved with the children to a neighborhood of mobile homes in Lexington after the October 2013 divorce and the children had slowly started disappearing from view, said neighbor Dorothy Wood.

“I didn’t even hear them playing outside any more. I thought they had moved,” Wood said.

If I'm interpreting this correctly, I think she means the kids' outdoor play had decreased in frequency over a period of time. Perhaps in correlation with their father's descent into madness?
