Random response: the only reason I can think of for Heather to leave the car at Peachtree Landing if she was leaving on her own is to make it look suspicious so people wouldn't think she left on her own.

And so no one could possible spot her leaving or getting into a car with someone else. Her place seems pretty populated and her mom said she didn't know if there were security cameras (interview with Jane), so maybe Heather didn't either. IF she left on her own, she may have not wanted anyone to see another car there. Now granted no one saw her leave.

As someone who's far away I've found http://www.instantstreetview.com/ to be a very helpful site. You can type in any address in the world and move around at will. It lets you see locations people are referring to from the comfort of your home. It lets you move around and get a feel for an area without looking at videos or trying to get a mental picture of a place.

Totally appreciate the link for sleuthing purposes, but just a heads up, a lot of these Google views are not updated frequently, for example the view of my house is from 2006, and a lot can change in 6-7 years, just letting people know not to take the view you see for truth.

I think if she left, and wanted someone to be blamed for her "disappearance" she would have been explicit about leaving "clues" pointing to that person, not just hope LE would investigate the person. Same as if she contemplated suicide, I feel with her penchant for posting and expressing herself, she would not have left any doubt, but would have made it clear what her intent was.

If she ran off, I don't see her making it look criminal i.e leaving the car in a desolate spot.

But then, I do not believe she ran off.

ETA was thinking about how Lauren Spierer would write pieces about her disappearance on their we site and in the early days and months and on anniversaries, they would be picked up by media...hope it does not come to this with Heather, i.e the only news being her father's writings. Of course, they are pursuing a civil case against those they believe are holding back info, which keeps Lauren in the news from time to time.

Understood..I wouldn't rely on this solely but you can get a feel for roads and paths travelled and you can even play tourist and take a trip to Paris!
More than anything it amazes me the technology currently available.
That's why locals are important to share their info about current places, etc .

Totally O/T but I just wanted to share this awesome recipe with you all. I know at times we here at WS get so wrapped up in cases that our dh and kiddos suffer the PB&J dinner fate. I just saw this on our local news at noon and thought it looked yummy. I made it tonight and it is very good!! Another plus is that it will last for several leftover sessions!

Nice of you to share that. Sounds very good!

What is BB's concern with AB, the sister of Amber Berbiglia, who was murdered in broad daylight in Myrtle Beach?

This happened right before his arrest on the 28th.

Honestly, I know people who knew AB and I know her history. If the two cases are related, it would be for one of two reasons... Not because of a SK. And if they are related, AB chose to meet up with a perp who wouldn't bring her body much further than her car but HE's perp did because he had more time and it was at night.

Knowing what I know, I see absolutely no connection, except residing in the same county and working at the same place, at different times. Unless you've been in the service industry in Myrtle Beach, you don't realize how "coincidental" certain facts are.

Unless, the killer was already inside her vehicle. Something to remember: Both AB and HE were going to the same college at the same time. AB was killed months before HE disappeared. So, maybe the killer learned from the mistakes he/she made with AB. Also, both vehicles were left in public places... the killer, at least in AB's case, probably simply walked away.

But, it does seem like the two are not related...unless both the young women knew and possibly trusted the person or let him/her into their vehicle. In HE's case it seems as if she got into his/her's vehicle. With AP's disappearance, it also involved a parking lot. Some say she was seen getting into a vehicle. She also went to HGTC.

The turnover rate in the Myrtle Beach area restaurant industry is about 400%. Only a handful of people stay at one job for a long period of time. Most of the restaurant owners pay minimum wage and treat you like (insert expletive here). They are looking to get rich off of your labor and offer zero benefits.
I think there are some similarities between the AB and HE cases but there are more differences and coincidences.
All MOO.

What's an "involuntary parent"? TIA

Grandparent?
___________

When a child goes missing, the family/parents are inducted into the involuntary fraternity of the new life's normal. This means that their lives will never be the same as it was the day before their child/family member vanished..

He's parents/family members, have been inducted into this involuntary fraternity..

Less than two months in, I find myself almost ready to "move on" from this case, which is most unlike me. But there is nothing at all new, no info coming out, no press conferences and the FB page-not-to-mentioned is either a mess of speculation or a prayer chain. It feels like Heather has been missing six months or a year, as far as new or relevant info goes. The father has to write one of his missives every few weeks, just so something makes news. How depressing. JMO

I totally agree.

If I was a resident of Myrtle Beach, I would damn well want to know if there is a predator out there.

I'm sorry, but I can see no reason at all why LE has not reassured the citizens in this case.

I can see no reason at all why they haven't utilized the media and SM to their advantage.

Anyone interested in seeing pictures of Amber hours before her violent death, pictures of her vehicle and recovery location, and exploring the possibility of a connection between Amber's murder and Heather's disappearance, please join us here.

I just did screeners of the pictures from newly released video last night, and am working on a case map.

BBM - I live here and I'm feeling the same way. It's concerning and appears that there are no new developments other than side bar stuff, like CH fb drama and the wrong type of arrests.

I don't even know how to respond after reading that article. I have a thousand thoughts and yet I sit her unable to find the appropriate words....

Except...

What I gather from this article is there's been no new developments except for this confirmation: "Horry County Police told WBTW on Friday that there was no official suspect in the case."

Doesn't "no new developments" generally imply "we're stuck"?

BBM - I fear you're probably right :anguish::anguish::anguish:

I think there should be a national task force for missing people in the country. It should be a special unit whose purpose is to create, train, educate and assist LE around the country in the immediate aftermath of a missing persons report.

A clear, consistant guideline should be established, to assess a case quickly, and assign it an escalation stage particular to known and evolving facts. Much the same as an emergency room triage.

There should be specialists available to assist with fast tracking access to victims social media data, in addition to cellular data for phones and towers.

There should be a clear guideline for utilizing social media and traditional media outlets.

There should be both general training at all police academies, and a mobile, National unit that assists LE agencies.

There needs to be standardization in procedure.

Great ideas! I especially like the idea of a National unit. Sadly, corruption isnt uncommon.

If Heather had made contact with LE, they would be obligated, IMO, to make a statement, while protecting her location. People are searching, for rewards or other reasons, and could end up injured, lost, or trespassing. Also funds are being raised. LE could not, IMO, turn a blind eye to all of that. They would simply say the case is closed, subject located. We have seen it before. JMO

Yes, also, on a personal note, Terry says many in LE are friends of his. Now imagine Terry calling these friends late at night begging them for help. I just cant believe that not a single one of them would hint to him that she is alive and safe.

Which is why if I, and I was fearful, and my family knew people, which they do, in LE and I didn't want people to find me, I wouldn't call.

Is it possible for Heather to start a new life without using her social and dl by now? Some have done it but keep in mind this is a fairly sheltered, young, unworldly person.

I wouldn't say I'm ready to "move on", but neither have I felt a need to offer any theories or observations. We seem to have nothing recently outside CH or SM. We did have the arrest of two individuals who were involved in trying to locate HE and I saw that as only a very brief distraction not really worth of analyzing. The best thing (if 'best' or 'good' can be attributed to the arrests) is that it was more publicity for HE's disappearance. Recently I've just been here to lurk and see if anything of significance has come to light.
