According to an arrest warrant, 40-year-old Ivy Contrell Jenerette repeatedly hit his stepson, Isaiah Gaymes, in the head with a piece of wood and a handgun on May 8 at their home in the Longs community in Horry County, not far from Myrtle Beach. Isaiah’s mother, 34-year-old Samantha Ann Gaymes, allowed the abuse to happen, the warrant said. Authorities reportedly found the bloodied piece of wood and gun with Isaiah’s injuries being consistent with being struck with those items.

After battling for his life at a hospital, Isaiah died on May 11, authorities said. The coroner said the cause of death was blunt force trauma. Jenerette is facing charges of murder and child abuse while Gaymes is facing a charge of unlawful conduct toward a child. Both are being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bond.

According to online booking records, Jenerette and Gaymes are both still incarcerated at the J Reuben Long Detention Center.

During his time at Riverside, Bellamy said she never saw any marks or bruises on the boy or was aware of any abuse occurring. Bellamy said she and other teachers developed a relationship with Gaymes because of his personality, describing him as lovable. “He loved art,” Bellamy said. “He was very artistic.” Bellamy said Gaymes also loved his baby sister and enjoyed taking care of her. “It’s a struggle,” Bellamy said of the 13-year-old’s death. “We are definitely struggling. We are so thankful that we get to plan his final goodbye.”

Obituary for Isaiah Gaymes | May 11, 2024 | Little River, SC

beautifully written obituary. I snipped mother's name from it because she doesn't deserve mention. Isaiah sounds like a great kid with a bright future and an eye for the arts. What a loss. :(

No telling what his artistic talent might have done for him and possibly many, many others. Sounded like he was a happy and loving youngster.
Fly high, Isaiah. You are now where all is light & beauty.
