“Jessica and Brandon began their relationship 18 months ago and during that time, Brandon was still having a relationship with Kendall because he had a baby with her six months ago,” Pendleton Police Chief Roberts Crosby tells PEOPLE.
  • Brandon told Jessica that Kendall was his sister and their child was his niece.
  • Soon after moving in with Brandon, Jessica learned about Brandon’s relationship with Mims.
  • Brandon and Mims had filed for a marriage license in late 2023 but in Jan 2024, he married Jessica.
On September 10, after not hearing from her daughter for several weeks, Varvara filed a missing person report with Pendleton police.

“I know from the beginning that they did something to her,” she said.

Victoria and Jessica bonded over losing a child when Jessica had a stillbirth on Easter Day - Victoria had lost her child in an accident months prior.

The illusion would shatter on July 31 when Jessica found her husband having sex with Victoria - a day later she would disappear, People Magazine reported.

information became convoluted on social media - where all three suspects actively engaged with internet sleuths. Victoria engaged with users on Facebook who would question where Jessica was and her involvement in her disappearance.
She posted a photo of Brandon on September 15. One user asked if she had helped him get rid of Jessica.
Victoria replied: 'Now why in the world would I get rid of my best friend? Y’all have the most ridiculous accusations I’ve ever heard.'

A separate user responded questioning why she would get involved with someone who was intimate with their best friend and that she was 'already on a weird path'.
In a now private post that was reposted on a Facebook group dedicated to Jessica's disappearance, Kendall wrote: 'The fact that you are commenting and accusing Brandon Barnes of such hateful things when it is so hard that he is depressed, barely eating or drinking in weeks, concerned for her safety.

What kind of accident I wonder.

Per TS, who is acting as spokesperson for the family:
  • Jessica and Brandon met after they matched on Tinder.
  • Jessica learned the truth of his relationship with Mims when Mims gave birth to his child.
  • On July 31, Jessica caught Brandon having sex with Tippett and decided to leave the relationship.
  • Brandon dropped Jessica off at her mother’s home but was “vile” toward her family, who called LE.
  • When LE arrived, Jessica was having a “panic episode,” and first responders took her to a hospital.
  • The next day, Brandon “caught up with her” and took her back to the pool house.
Police said Brendan Barnes strangled Jessica Barnes to death on Aug. 2.

I would like to add that I find deeply suspicious that both Jessica and Victoria lost their babies (Victoria in a so-called accident and Jessica a stillbirth) I think this needs to be looked into by police in case something put in their food/drink was the cause. The way this boy looks (unhinged) anything is possible.

This case has made me cry. The three of them look evil and the two unfortunate-looking girls were clearly jealous of Jessica. I hope these three creatures rot in jail. Throw the key, please.
I'd like to know more about his dynamic with the two other women. This sounds like almost a cult and abusive people can exert enormous control over their partners and warp their sense of selves and morals in horrifying ways. It's possible they're as horrible and evil as he, but I do want to know more before deciding.

The parents of Kendall Mims, along with Kendall's grandfather, were interviewed by FITSNews. They explain how Kendall became involved with Brandon, and how they tried to get her away from him.

Kendall was interested in becoming a biomedical engineer so she could help design prosthetics for wounded veterans. She was attending college on her scholarship, maintaining a 3.8 GPA, and working when she met Brandon.

... According to Teresa, her daughter began losing the feeling on the right side of her body – with her hand and her foot experiencing constant numbness. ... Like Jessica Barnes and Kathrine Gumm, Kendall was allegedly the victim of repeated strangulations at the hands of Brandon Barnes.

When medical staffers at the jail examined the otherwise healthy 20-year-old, they noted a narrowing of the artery in her neck – a potentially life-threatening strangulation complication that could eventually result in a stroke if untreated. The jail put in a referral to a neurologist – but told Teresa it could be up to 60 days before her daughter is seen.

A preliminary hearing in Mims’ case has been scheduled for next Monday (December 9, 2024). ...

Last month, Clemson, S.C.-based defense attorney Catherine Wyse filed a motion for bond on Mims’ behalf (.pdf) – arguing her client had no prior criminal record, no passport and no financial means to leave South Carolina. Wyse’s motion also noted Mims’ strong family ties to the area including her grandfather, Ron Herrin, who is currently caring for her infant child.

The prosecution countered Mims was a flight risk – claiming she and her co-conspirators previously fled to Colorado after burning Jessica Barnes’ body in a plastic tote. Prosecutors said the trio contemplated running from law enforcement but ultimately decided to return to South Carolina.

In arguing for bond on behalf of her client, Wyse described the horrific abuse Mims allegedly endured at the hands of Brandon Barnes – including him hitting her and strangling her “multiple times.” According to Wyse, the abuse included forced sex acts and coercive control – with Barnes allegedly threatening to kill her baby and grandfather if she tried to leave him.

After listening to all of the testimony, Sprouse asked for a few moments to review everything he had been submitted. Prior to announcing his ruling, he asked if investigators were still waiting on cellular and video evidence. Upon learning that they were, he ruled against setting a bond for Mims to ensure the court had a fuller sense of the facts of the case.

The hearing for 20-year-old Victoria Tippett and 20-year-old Kendall Mims was held in Anderson County last Friday (February 14, 2025). The proceedings exposed harrowing details of a murder that began as a missing person investigation – but evolved into a tragic tale of violence and deception
