Good night, Johnny Brown...wherever you are. Phone home.

God bless you and keep you.

I haven't posted in this thread before but check it every day to see if there is any news about Johnny...and praying each day that God will lead someone to him or lead Johnny to someone who knows how to help him. NonieBrenda, Miss James and Peekerfoo, you are wonderful :tyou: Thank you to include anyone else I've not named.

About the calling home ~ The change in area code might be his problem. He might not know about that. He knows how to call home at home, probably not how to call long distance.

BBM

But from what I understand, and correct me if I am mistaken, he apparently DID call home almost immediately when he was lost. But no one was home there yet. It concerns me that he has stopped trying to call.

Well, I decided yesterday that I was fed up on this thread, and wasn't going to read it anymore. I was questioning if he was even really missing. It took me about two hours of reading WS to come here. Hmmm....I see hope has been revived. Well, I did have a thought, has anyone brought flyers to the black churches in the area? Churchgoers are the same sort of folks who tend to volunteer at homeless shelters, food banks, etc. How far is it from MB to Cartersville? It seems like he has moved out of the area, but to where? Evonne from Black and Missing but not Forgotten has added Johnny to her FB page. I hope he is found this weekend!!:please:

I have wondered that since I got the update today about just how capable Johnny is. My impression from his sister was that he wasn't capable of much and now we learn that he is blessed with all kinds of abilities. He still needs to be found, even if it's just to know that he's safe. I feel like after all these new insights I may actually be able to get a full nights sleep tonight. Perhaps I'll even take my first day off in two weeks and not search tomorrow--maybe just enjoy my own family. If I knew that the poor guy wasn't terrified of strangers and makes friends so easily I might have pictured him with someone who took him under their wing. I pictured him every single night huddled in the woods, alone and terrified of coming across a stranger. I am so happy to hear that he may actually have a chance out there. I truly am. I only wish I'd known this a two weeks ago. I still would've done everything I did do, but maybe I wouldn't have let it consume my every waking moment! All we have asked for is the truth and now I think we have it. Right? Anyway, I like your idea of Johnny being free and stretching his wings a little. I hope that's the case!
I agree with you Peekerfoo and Katydid23. I believe that Johnny could be somewhat enjoying being on his own, and maybe feeling like a "grown-up" for the first time, even though he misses his family and home. In my interview of Julie today, she said she had said in the beginning that Johnny was "special needs" thinking that would get more attention for him quickly. Then she started telling me what his capabilities are. Rev. and Ruby were also adding to this. I was just amazed. Peekerfoo, I'm like you in that I may be able to get some sleep tonight. (I had better start soon, it's 2:30 now. LOL) I also wish we had had this true information from the beginning. It always helps to have accurate info to work with. Well, nite nite everyone.

I haven't thought that far ahead ,but I'm suggesting walking in cold, unless someone else has a better idea.
I've e-mailed all the HLN shows .Peekerfoo mentioned that also.

I thought the picture of Johnny standing standing by the car with his cap should be the cover with MISSING (special needs, developmentally disabled, mentally challenged ,whatever ) Adult Man separated from family while on vacation.
It's not a good pic in some ways ,but the way he's standing and something about it shows he is younger than his actual age of 44 years.

Just something that will grab their attention . More pictures and information could be inside with a short " story" of what's been happening ,that Johnny is from Cartersville ,but tried to take a bus to Atlanta,etc..

How hard this has been on his mother who has cancer . How difficult it's been to get his story out there ,when he's so vulnerable .

Something about how this can turn out to have a happy ending if people just knew about Johnny, because he has reached out for help, but isn't really understood.

Maybe several packets could be made up for producers of all their shows.

This is a lot to ask and may fall flat, but CNN/HLN are leaders in shows about the missing ,which often leads to other media picking it up .

MissJames, I sent you a pm.

There is a nagging thought that I have harbored for awhile now. I didn't want it to be misconstrued, so I did not post it. But these new disclosures make me wonder about this possibility even more than I originally thought.

I am wondering if at some point, after his initial fear and shock of being lost dissipated, that PERHAPS he is feeling that he is on an adventure. Maybe he is stretching his wings and doing things he never felt capable of. Living on his own for the first time might be kind of exciting. I am sure he wants to be home and be safe. But he might feel somewhat torn about it as well. If he made some new friends and is learning new things he might be going with the flow for now. Just a thought.

No..no,this is a lovely post!!
I agree with you!! ...

Maybe Johnny will impress and surprise us all ;)

Hi everyone
I was speaking to a few of the W/Sers a couple of nights back about trying to raise the profile for Johnny.
We need to get to the big news channels as well as the ones in the area, Johnny could be just about anywhere by now so we need national coverage.

I tried to think of an angle that may give us some interest from the big companies and came up with a song.
I have uploaded it with a short video about Johnny, none of it is finished yet but if it helps its there! (just adding, I don't want anything from this, apart from Johnny safe and sound)

this is the link
http://youtu.be/gwdYC7YwgN4

thanks to Peekerfoo and also Nonni Brenda and Miss James for the inspiration

you can find it by going to youtube and typing in Johnny lamar Brown Hapetunez

I don't know if the family has purposely misled people or what... But it is wrong if they have. JMO

I plan to start making some brightly colored flyers directed TO Johnny this week. You have brought up a good point and I will add the 1 plus area code to that!

I'm glad you finally decided to post this link to your song! I think it's an amazing tool and you did a great job! You're a talented and thoughtful guy, Fabgod!:rocker:

To everyone else--you really should check this out! It's pretty wonderful that someone all the way over in the UK would take the time to do this!

I can kind of understand why the family would play up the "special needs" aspect, but I find it kind of a slap in the face to those who actually do have special needs children and adults. It's just not right to pull on everyone's heartstrings in that way. Our images of a man with the mind of a helpless child were terrifying to us. Thinking that he was so afraid of strangers that he would run from them and being unable to do much of anything gave me nightmares. I have been beating myself up for not stopping to check if the man in jeans was Johnny and thinking that I'm responsible for this poor man being out there all alone. I know the worker at the Bar-B-Q house must feel the same way and probably all the other people who spotted him. I STILL would've helped if they told us that he had some problems, but could function at a decent level. I guess I am mainly upset that Julie did not disclose these things to me or others in our multiple phone conversations. I am proud of you ,Nonni Brenda for getting to the bottom of this and finding out the truth. It needed to come out and you were the one to make it happen. I think you'd be a helpful addition to CNN, so maybe you should drop off a resume if you go there!:rocker:

I would like you to tell Julie that I will continue my efforts to help find Johnny by putting up some flyers that are directed at him, telling him to call home. Any advice on which direction to go would be most helpful.

I'm glad that when I first had suspicions that I told my friends not to donate any food gift certificates as I first asked them to. I felt foolish, but I didn't want anyone to spend their hard-earned money unless I was 100% sure that this story was legit. I still have the ones that I personally purchased, but since the family didn't call back, I believe I'll be going out to dinner tonight. I did sleep better last night and I hope you did, too.

For me, the search goes on, but my efforts to offer the family support are no longer on my long list of things to do for Johnny Brown.

Which local LE?

I'm sorry I didn't answer earlier. I don't know what LE, but I am sure you could send an email to the admin of "seeking the lost" and they will be able to tell you who they talked to.

Nonni Brenda-
When you meet with Julie on Tuesday I think you should have her take a look at Fabgod's video. The family will at least see that people from, not just this country, but all over the world are trying to help Johnny. It might be something that will give his parents a better idea of how much people care. I think that they would be reassured knowing that the word is out there. It would be great if your local TV station would air it. I have sent it to one here in hopes that it renews the interest here. I think I will send it to CUE also.

You have such a good heart, and you deserve a slap up meal tonight! (and a cocktail or two, if that's what you like!).

Thanks Summer Breeze, lets hope so and lets hope that we can get the awareness up to national level,
we need CNN and FOX to start running stories about Johnny, we need a success story here not only for Johnny but for all the great W/Sers who put so much effort into helping the missing

Don't feel bad. Technically, he IS special needs, just higher functioning than we originally believed. My guess is he has a mild form of autism, or he is slightly developmentally disabled, and obviously has aphasia... inability to speak clearly or distinctly in order that others can understand.
He may be capable of a lot more than we originally thought, but I'm not sure that his family deliberately misled us. In some of the group homes I worked, we had a few people who, if out in the public were considered normal, they just had some form of mental illness and were unable to take care of themselves on their own on a permanent basis. They might have done well for a day or two, but without someone there to supervise them, they would forget to take their medications, or do other parts of their daily routine.... take baths, brush their teeth, comb their hair, etc.
Anyway, I am happy to know that Johnny is more able to take care of himself than we first believed, but IMO, he still probably needs supervision. If his parents are elderly and become unable to care for him once he is found and back home, my advice to them would be to enroll him in the state MHMR program, and try to get him into a group home, where he will be supervised by trained staff 24/7. It might be beneficial for him to be with other people with similar challenges.
