SC SC - Johnny Lamar Brown, 44, Myrtle Beach, 3 Aug 2012 - #2

I've sat in the parking lot of the old Taco Bell, which is right near where I saw Johnny, on many occasions just to see of he'd walk by there again. I don't think he's in Surfside because it's a small town and the police are really keeping an eye out for him. Alot of locals are also looking when they're out and about. He could be here, but I really don't think so. If he headed back towards Myrtle Beach then I do believe he could go unnoticed better there.

I don't get the feeling that he is still there. It seems if he was still around MB, someone would have seen him and reported it. But I also don't get the feeling that LE is looking very hard, and that concerns me.
If he's taken up with a homeless group, they may have no idea he's lost. But his clothes are bound to be pretty dirty by now, and maybe his hair and beard has grown. He hasn't had a chance to take a bath, brush his teeth, or comb his hair. He may appear VERY different than when he walked out of the hotel on his way to the amusement park.
Most PD's have patrolmen riding around 24/7, so are the MB cops on the lookout for him?
Or would he be adept at hiding out, thinking he is in trouble?
I still pray every day that he will be found, but there is no telling where he may be now.

I hope this is OK to post... I have gone back through thread No. 1, and tried to create a timeline from the conversations our members had with the family, and from various news articles and personal accounts. I know it isn't perfect, but it is interesting. I DO believe Johnny was lost and having so much trouble communicating, that he was just ambling around for the first few days. His family probably came close to catching up with him a few times. Anyways - here is what I have put together. I have tried to save the sources for most of this in another file, and I have listed some of the links where the information came from. Everyone here has done such a wonderful job, this information just seems to valuable to not organize and use as we go forward.

Timeline from Websleuths postings and news articles:

1. 8/2/2012 – Family Checked into the Sea Crest Resort: 803 South Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach, SC.

2. 8/3/2012: 2:30 – 3:30 PM - Johnny went for a walk to the Family Kingdom Amusement Park, Myrtle Beach. (About two blocks form the Sea Crest Resort where he was staying).

3. 8/3/2012: 4:30 PM – 8/4/2012: 5:30 AM – Family went to dinner at a local restaurant. When they returned to Sea Crest, Johnny wasn’t there, so they went driving towards the Family Kingdom Amusement Park and drove all around the area until 5:30 AM the next morning. Stopped two MB Police Officers while driving around and gave them the description of Johnny.

4. 8/3/12: 5:30 PM – A hotel worker relates that she saw Johnny across the street, but that she didn’t know who he was, or that he was missing. He told the hotel worker that he was missing his family and he went off in the opposite direction of the amusement park

5. 8/3/12: 7:00 PM – Johnny is seen in the Waffle House near the Whispering Surf Motel at 2608 South Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach, SC. Johnny asked a waitress named Angie and her husband for a ride. A man named “Roger” who lived at the Whispering Surf Motel ‘offered to take Johnny with him’, and they left walking behind the Waffle House (per Angie). The manager at the Whispering Surf also remembers seeing Johnny with Roger. Roger is a known drug dealer.

6. 8/3/2012: Between 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM, Johnny got in a taxi, but the female driver couldn’t understand him. She took him towards Georgetown, and let him out when she found out he had no money, and she couldn’t understand what he was saying. She did not call the cops on him.

7. 8/3/2012: 10:00 PM - Police in Surfside stop Johnny off the bypass near Georgetown because he was walking alone down the road. They discovered the name of the SeaCrest hotel and called the hotel, but Johnny wasn’t reported as missing yet. Georgetown LE dropped him back off in Surfside.

8. 8/3/12: ??? PM – Johnny called home to Cartersville from a Chic-Fil-A, Arby’s and from a couple of cell numbers. This was discovered by the grandkids when they got home on Sunday, 8/5/2012.

9. 8/4/2012: Family speaks with a hotel worker who told the searching family that she had seen Johnny who had been across the street around 5:30 PM on Friday 8/3/12. She did not know who he was or that he was missing at that time. Johnny told the hotel worker that he was missing his family and he went off in the opposite direction of the amusement park. The worker also said she had seen him on her way into work that morning as he was sitting on the curb by a bank. Thread #1, Page 10 – Post No. 241 – by Steely Dan, 8/25/12 @ 02:36 PM

10. 8/4/2012: 9:00 AM – Johnny calls his home in Cartersville from a Beach Store in Myrtle Beach.

11. 8/4/2012: - Starting at 3:30 PM, the family searches business in areas he had been sighted.

12. 8/4/2012: “Angie”, the waitress at the Waffle House who saw Johnny when he asked her and her husband for a ride, quits her job and disappears.
13. 8/4/2012: 1:00 – 2:00 pm - Bar-B-Que House – 1205 Hwy 17 N Surfside Beach, SC 29575 - Johnny was asking for help, but they couldn’t understand him, so he left. Also information that they fed Johnny around 12:30 AM on this same day. FAMILY HAD JUST MISSED HIM BY ABOUT 3 HOURS.

14. 8/5/12: Grandchildren return home to Cartersville and discover that Johnny had called home to Cartersville from a Chic-Fil-A, Arby’s and from a couple of cell numbers.

16. 8/6/2012: Julie Adams, the sister had returned to Cartersville, and she contacted the Myrtle Beach police with the phone numbers he had called from. They tracked them to a beach store he had called form on Saturday the 4th about 9 AM.

17. 8/6/12: The family who had remained in Myrtle Beach went to the Beach Store where Johnny had called home to Cartersville, and ID’d him when they saw the surveillance video.

19. 8/8/12 - ??? Bar and grill across street from Surfside Beach Resort – This is close to the Surfside Pier - Possibly sighted by BellyUp – WS’s Member: Post No. 81, Thread 1; Page 4.

20. 8/13/2012: Sighting at McDonald’s in Surfside. A woman pulled up to the drivethru window and there was a man standing there at the ordering board, and he made her nervous, so she drove around him. After getting home, she saw the news and recognized him from a story she saw on the news. She immediately called the Surfside PD and they told her to call Horry County because it wasn’t their jurisdiction.  She called Horry County, but they told her to call Surfside. She called the news and left a message, and the next morning she called Julie and was upset because she couldn’t have done more.

Every morning now, I google news for "Unidentified Man Georgia" and "Unidentified Man South Carolina". This morning, I found an article about a man who is unidentified that died after an altercation with police in Oxford, Alabama. Apparently, the man had driven a car with Georgia license plates to a car dealer ship and was pounding on other vehicles trying to get inside of them. The police used a stun gun on him, and he went into respiratory arrest and died. So sad!!! Probably a drug-related case, but this line in the attached article caught my attention:

“He was irate, sweaty, and his speech was all incoherent,” Partridge said. “His hands were bloody and his pants were down.”

According to an update on the site you posted, the man was identified. He was from Jasper GA.

I think we knew it wasn't Johnny from the start since the man had driven there and as far as known, Johnny rides bikes but doesn't drive. Just wanted to note that he was from GA and found in AL.

I think you have the right idea of checking google for unidentified persons in GA and SC. Since MB is so near to NC, maybe it should be included also?

Here's what I find sad--as far as I know the last story about Johnny was on Sept.2, there are no updates on FB or CUE's site, and no press releases from LE. Are we the only ones who still discuss this? I am hoping Brianna gets on this because it seems that without any media attention Johnny is going to be lost for a long, long time. Perhaps we should contact all of the media outlets, including the one in Cartersville, and beg for an update to this story? I think Johnny deserves at least that much.

BBM

YES JMHO :maddening:

Today one of Sam's teacher's aide asked me about Johnny . I didn't know how to answer her questions, which are the same one's most of us are thinking but can't really discuss. I'm simply :waitasec:

Often ,in other cases we dissect to the nth degree,we see interviews with people who know the victim and/or the family ,and we get some insight into the victim's life before the event .
Part of my confusion is not really knowing enough about Johnny's habits and lifestyle prior to visiting Myrtle Beach to imagine what he might be doing or even how he might have gone missing.

I thought I knew enough ,but I was wrong.

We've all seen families who have made it a priority to keep their missing loved one in the news for as long as possible, because they were afraid for that person .
Even adult children usually have parents ,siblings and friends who appear desperate to do anything to find their loved one.
This is just my opinion ,but I sense we don't have that level of fear and panic for Johnny ,so I think since they know him better than anyone, maybe we are worrying for nothing.
There are a lot of adult children who's parents don't know where they are.
For me,unless we get some concrete information that we can use ,I'm not sure what else I can do.

Great post, Miss James! That's pretty much it in a nutshell!

I agree with you 110%...Unless someone comes forward that knows Johnny better that we do (and we really know nothing about him), we have done all we can do...
I know that sounds like I'm giving up, and I guess I reallly am, I don't know what else we can do...:dunno:

I just finished writing a long e-mail to Brianna Smith at WPDE. I explained my feelings, sent fabgod's video, and asked several questions. My son worked for WPDE a few years ago in the production department and I mentioned that, too. (The friend I have over at TV13 also used to work there, so I sometimes forget that he changed stations LOL)

Hopefully, she can get to the bottom of what's going on and provide us with some useful information. If nothing else, it is reminder to her that people are still wondering about Johnny.

It saddens me to see no forward momentum on this case. I had such hope that more was going to be put on here from a family perspective, KWIM? But, alas....
Poor Johnny Brown- where are you?

That was a great timeline. Thank you

I am still praying for johnny.

Could they have given any less information? Praying for Johnny and whoever this poor man is...

I only found one news article that actually said it was a man! I'm sure we'll hear more soon.

I looked on a google map to see where Dillon is and it is 65 miles north of MB but close to I-95.
What bothers me is Dillon is only 6+ miles from GEORGEtown and with his speech....
I don't know how to do the maps.
It's probably not him.

Dillon is much farther than that from Georgetown. I'm not good with maps either, but I believe it's even further than MB is from Dillon. It did catch my eye because it's close to I-95.

ED to add---I looked at the maps and it looks like there are TWO Georgetowns in SC??? Is that legal?? LOL!! My apologies, Watcher9! I'm going to read more about this "other Georgetown" right now!!!!!!

  • #298
I pray it is not Johnny!!! Hopefully we will get more answers soon - about a lot of things!

  • #299
I think I figured out my confusion with the map. On Google maps it looks like there's another Georgetown, but I believe that's the COUNTY that's listed up by Dillon. I couldn't imagine that there were two, but it looked that way on the map. I think of Georgetown as being south of us (which the city is) but forgot that the county is quite large and goes to the west and north of us. Peekerfoo needs coffee or something....

I haven't heard anything yet. Hopefully soon will have some answers.

I pray that's not Johnny either. I was thinking he may have gotten as far as the big highway on his trek towards home, but hopefully it's not him.:please:
