SC SC - Marjorie 'Gayle' McCaffrey, 36, West Ashley, 18 March 2012 *husband guilty*

  • #101
"Deputies started actively searching the house Thursday and plan to spend the night before resuming the search Friday morning.

"Wherever the investigation takes us, we will go," Clark said. "If we need to dig, we will dig. At some point though, we anticipate searching the area behind the house--in and around the house."

Clark did not go into detail about the suspect, but said Robert McCaffrey--Gayle's husband and the person who reported her missing Sunday night--has not fully cooperated with the investigation.

Seems kinda funny that a judge would give custody to her sister on the supposition that that they were home alone all night...article also says they were originally taken into protective custody because they were "found home alone." Sorry, can't cut and paste from kindle...

The ticket proves the kids were home alone.

Notice the husband has not made any public statements, no pleas for her to come home, no searching, no reward, etc.

IMHO his atty is advising him not to invoke public sentiment, search efforts, etc, as that would harm his criminal case in the future (and he'd be liable for search costs).

Small world. His attorney (Chris Lizzi) was my attorney once upon a time. He's a pretty good guy actually (IMO). He's certainly not a powerhouse attorney, but he's a very nice guy.

I'm not really sure yet what's going on with hubby. Gayle's sisters mentioned in an article today that they felt badly for hubby because his family did not come to his side and he is all alone. I wonder where his family is and why they are not supporting him at all? Did they desert him recently, or is this an ongoing dynamic? I wonder why. I suspect there is more to hubby than Gayle's sisters know.

yeah but this was according to him. He is the one who told the police he went away and came back and she was gone, we don't know if she was there that night and he did something to her and then left the kids or came back and did something in the morning. He told the police the kids were asleep and she was gone when he came home in the am. According to his story, he is not the one who left the kids alone so for him to loose the kids tells me that they have something on him. I can't see how he would have lost those kids when his story is that he left the house and she was home with the kids and when he came back in the AM she was gone, letter etc etc etc. I don't buy any of it but still, they must have something on him personally or his lawyer stinks. IMO

BBM. I believe they found his story troubling during his interview and removed the kids afterwards.

One of the first articles I read said a friend was at the house Saturday afternoon and the husband received a phone call, he and his wife both got visibly upset about something when this happened. The friend also said that the wife had told her that the husband had been talking to someone online. Could whoever this person is that was on the phone or he was talking online have a connection with Travelers Rest? Why else would someone drive to TR in the middle of the night? He did not go to Easley, the uncle and aunt have already said he was not up there.

Just listened to a podcast of an interview her brother-in-law - from yesterday. He said that what the husband said about going to Easley was "totally bogus" - and that he had heard he had a girlfriend in the upstate, where he got the ticket. Charleston Police said yesterday that they had been working with the TR Police Dept, us that is where the "person" must live. If all he had gotten was a speeding ticket in TR - there would be no reason to "work" with the police department on an ongoing basis.

Unless they think the body was dumped there and they would need their help to look for it.

Wouldn't you think at this point the lover if she exists, would step forward to distance herself from this situation. Most come out and say, "Hey I didn't have anything to do with this."
So if he has a lover, we should be hearing from her/him any day now.

I wonder if this will be Amber Frey, The Sequel. I thought it odd that the GF called her married boyfriend on a Saturday when he was sure to be at home with his wife and kids. Most other women know better than to do that. Makes me wonder if she did not know he was married, or if he gave her the usual "I'm separated" line. If she's upstate, she might not know the real deal in Charleston.

If she didn't know he was married, she certainly does now. This story has been on the front page of the Charleston newspaper for days now. Hopefully, she'll serve him up on a platter like Amber did to Scott Peterson.

"Also today, just before noon, deputies from Charleston County wrapped up an overnight search of the home on Limestone Blvd. in West Ashley. They removed two large bags. Deputies have confirmed the contents are a part of the investigation but there were no specifics given and, we are told, that it still has to be analyzed, to determine if there is anything that can shed new light on McCaffrey's disappearance."

clothes? bedsheets? Maybe we she was lying on the bed, ignoring him he strangled her? I can't think of what would take 2 large bags. Wouldn't he have hid whatever he could that fateful night? Just thinking out loud.

The neighbors stated that husband had quite an arsenal of firearms in the home. I wouldn't be surprised if LE took them all.

I'd be very interested in reading the probable cause search warrant. A judge wouldn't have signed a search warrant if an adult wrote a note and simply left town. I wonder what convinced a judge to not only sign the warrant, but to remove the children from husband's care as well.

I'm going to feel pretty sorry for this guy if his wife did indeed just chuck it all and run away from home. He's gotta be in hell right now if she's a simple runaway (which I doubt, BTW).

We've been down here in Charleston on vacation and tonight is the first time I've heard about Gayle's disappearance. I am very disturbed by this! We drove down here from Virginia and there are so many different places along the way to dispose of a body. It's so ironic...I was just thinking that very same thing as I was driving down here last Friday. There are tons of wooded areas in which to pull up into off the main road, dump a body out and then leave. And if he was in a pickup, which one of the articles mentioned he was driving, then that would be even easier.

We are heading back to Virginia in the morning and I know I'll have this on my mind the entire 8 hour drive. Praying for Gayle and her family!!!!!!!!

We just left Charleston to head back to Virginia and had to stop at Walmart, which was in West Ashley, according to our GPS, and I could not help but think of Gayle as we drove through there. I don't know how far from there she lives but it was such an eerie feeling, even in the sunny daylight to think of her husband possibly driving somewhere to "dispose" of her body (and I hate that term!) As we drive on the interstate now, I cannot stop thinking of her. I cannot imagine the anguish her children and family are going through right now. My heart hurts for them!
