Comforter, afghan to be analyzed, seeking clues to missing mom

Reaching for clues as to what happened to the 36-year-old mother after that, investigators combed the couple's West Ashley house Friday, removing two paper bags with "back right bedroom" written in black marker.

One bag described a "blue/purple afghan," another a "multi-colored comforter."

But there was no indication that the contents produced new information.

"We're looking to see if anything did occur there because that's where she was last seen," said Maj. Jim Brady, a spokesman for the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. "We have to look to see if anything leads us in any particular direction."

Friday's effort also included dogs that sniffed around the home, near abandoned toys in the front yard and a tree house in the back.

Beachlvr0810, if you were at West Ashley WM you were maybe 2 miles from her house. It is a more rural area of Charleston with plenty of woods, swamp & Ashley River. No need to drive 4 hours.

they will probably be able to tell what time the note, 'supposedly from her', was written and printed...would interested to know if it was printed AFTER he arrived home... or -before he left
anyway, who writes a note to a spouse on the computer and prints it? OH yeah , I guess you do if YOU are writing the note 'for' your spouse- don't want that pesky handwriting analysis to blow your story now do ya huh
one word-busted ;)

Choochood, it was such an eerie and sad feeling to drive through that area and know that she lived near there. As we walked into Walmart, I wondered if she had walked through those same doors before. As we were sitting at one of the stop lights, a pickup pulled up beside me and as he drove off it made to shudder to imagine her possibly lying in the bed of his pickup. IMO, just from being in SC for a week, I don't believe he drove 4 hours to get rid of her...I believe she'll be found closer to home. :notgood:

Bumping up here for Gayle with some random thoughts:

Of course he could have placed her anywhere. But would he continue to drive 4 hours away? The only explanation for that line of reasoning would be because his mind was racing and he was just driving around figuring out what to do next. I still think most likely scenario is she is some distance away from the house.

I am guessing it will be some time before we hear back about the items taken from the house.

I hope the kids were asleep when things went down between the two of them.

Do you think they will try to conduct any searches?

One of the first articles I read said a friend was at the house Saturday afternoon and the husband received a phone call, he and his wife both got visibly upset about something when this happened. The friend also said that the wife had told her that the husband had been talking to someone online. Could whoever this person is that was on the phone or he was talking online have a connection with Travelers Rest? Why else would someone drive to TR in the middle of the night? He did not go to Easley, the uncle and aunt have already said he was not up there.

From what I"ve read, it was her aunt that was at the dinner when he got that call. IMO

I agree with some distance away but I don't think she's 4 hours away. I think she's closer to home. It would be too risky to drive that far even in the middle of the night with her in the vehicle, unless she was STILL alive in the truck with him. But from what I've read about her, I don't think she would get in the truck with him and leave her two children alone in the house. Depending on which way he went to Easley (I'd have to look at the map again), if he got on the interstate at all he would be taking a chance of someone seeing her in the truck.

But that is a possibility. We had a local lady here in Virginia whose boyfriend drove her all the way to Texas and killed her and dumped her body there.

:(

first I'd like to say:

:welcome4: SetecAstronomy and choochood!!!

respectfully snipped...
The neighbors stated that husband had quite an arsenal of firearms in the home. I wouldn't be surprised if LE took them all.

wonder if he had any silencers?? :what:

Oh good point, sreshowtime, what "time" that note was printed out!! And I totally agree! - who writes a note to your spouse on the computer!?!! :waitasec:

--right--we now know that he DID go to easley , b/c of the ticket he was issued ..( speeding robert ??)

--i had mapped it also, a 4 hour trip ONE way---leaving him about a 1/2 hour "to do whatever" ( ditch a body?) once he got there.

--driving distance from A-west ashley SC, to B-easley SC.

--taking I-26W-- it's 222 miles-- 3 hours 39 mins
--taking 1-26W and US-378W-- it's 240 miles--4 hours 20 mins

I just checked google earth for his route and there is a notice at the top of the directions that say "This route has tolls." Are they the type of tolls where you just throw your money in and go about your business or do they have someone working the toll booth? Would there be camera posted there? Just curious.

Good point. I would think he would be smart enough to go around the tolls, but who knows.

This link is a picture of HWY 61/Ashley River Rd in Charleston. This is the road that their neighborhood is located on - maybe a half of a mile from their house looks like this, for over 10 miles until you get into Summerville. There are a few houses and plantations spread out over the 10 miles.

The update today was from their search located on Hwy 61 near the house, they did not find anything.

I can't get her off my mind. Everytime I hear about a person gone missing, it breaks my heart but this one bothers me alot because we were there only a few miles from her house on vacation when she disappeared. I'm praying!!

Not much new here

Missing woman's family asks for help

I also wonder if movement appears to be slow because her husbands father is in LE?

From this link Gayle's brother in law who is not fond of her husband states the LE connection.

http://archives.zeusradio.com/here-women-talk/susan-murphy-milano-times-up/smm-3-22-2012/#

I personally haven't been able to hear it but in reading at THM Valhall's site the statement is there.

And the father is not paying his childrens' expenses, why?

"Donations can be made to any Wells Fargo bank under the account name, "Gayle McCaffrey Children's Fund."

"This money is not for attorney's fees or rewards," Banach said. "This money is for the basics for the kids -- summer camp, school lunch."

We used to go thru the Travelers Rest area on our way to Lake Jocasse, which could be an out-of-the-way place to dispose of a body.
