I don't know why you say that with such certainty? Apparently the judge knew Roofs grandfather. If the defendant had been black and the judge knew his grandfather, he would have said the same things. There are many black attorneys, bailiffs, court reporters etc. How can you say the judge would not be fair, as he seemed to try to be this time?

Good ol' boys club. There is no way that black people living in poor, rural communities are friends with public officials.

Oh my god.. This guy terrifies me. Legitimately.

That cold dead stare, there's no soul or life behind those eyes. No emotion, no nothing.

Way behind on this thread, but my psychologist friend and I had a discussion once about eyes like that, in reference to Jared Laughner. Same appearance exactly. So I noticed that about Roof's eyes immediately.

Very scary.

Very scary.

I don't find him to have that same "stare" as Lanza and Holmes

More on the manifesto, found on the same site with the photos.

Again, way behind on this thread so sorry if this has already been posted, but look at the placement of the gun.

Armchair psychologist Izzy thinks someone might be trying to compensate for something. And there are all those stories about the endowment of black men. And JR complained that black men want to rape white women.

Pure speculation.

But he still attacked them. And there have been killings in China by knife point. Not as many die, true. But there is violence in other countries. Guns or not, people find a way.

Well, it's that political hot potato for Americans again - gun control versus the right to bear arms.

Certainly there appear to be far more random rage shootings by nutters in the USA than elsewhere, and guns can kill far more easily without needing to get within arms reach. You can outrun a nutter with a knife. You can't outrun a bullet. This fact probably also invites more potential nutters to become random rage killers in the first place, once they have access to a firearm.

It would be foolish to exclude availability as an issue. I have seen pics of this nutter brandishing his gun. It must surely be dangerous for any society if even nutjobs like him find guns easy to get hold of.

Without restricting the right to bear arms for all decent Americans, surely there ought to be some compromise solution that makes it harder for the nutters and criminals to legally obtain them? Fact is though, as long as guns are so widely available, such people will always find it relatively easy to get hold of them illegally anyway.

I said I wouldn't go anywhere near the gun control versus right to bear arms issue, but it cannot be anything other than highly relevant in cases such as this. Thus it is difficult to avoid. So perhaps it needs to be discussed, whilst trying insofar as possible to keep political leanings out of it. Tough ask, I know.

Hi my sweet WS Friends. My heart is broken. I can't even say how upset I am about this. How can we come together. I'm a white 50yo woman. I love all people. There is good in our world.

Please this violence has to stop. This is so awful. Peace to all of you. Some will know me from WS. I'm here everyday.

They welcomed that 🤬🤬🤬. It makes me so sick.

Why Trayvon? Trayvon and DR were both 17 when Trayvon was murdered. What more did DR want? Trayvon's killer is free. Trayvon's parents did everything right. They pleaded for peace. In the face of everything that was wrong... they stood strong for peace.

Oh, I see. He was angered by that.

Prayers going out to Trayvon's parents. They should not have their son's name dragged into this. They've been through enough.

I don't want to put words in your mouth, nor twist your words to mean something you don't mean, so I want to make sure I understand what you are saying.

Are you saying:

That an at-risk black youth needs to be spoken to in racial terms so that he can relate to them?

But racial terms aren't necessary to relate to a white youth at risk, because white culture is different?

You clearly are not going to speak to a suburban youth the same way you would an inner city youth- it really doesn't matter what race either youth is they relate to their own realities and experiences..
We are a country made up of different races & acknowledging that isn't racist. Pretending that by ignoring our differences we are being racially tolerant is naive and does more harm than good.
We need to embrace our differences not ignore them.

Maybe the concept is getting lost because you are focusing on race rather than communication.
You wouldn't expect someone who doesn't speak English to understand what you are trying to communicate in a language not their own.

So, if going off my own experiences with "suburban" youth... It would be perfectly accurate for me to call them "pill popping, meth smoking, cocaine sniffing sociopath's" with parents who could care less because they have the money to bail them out?

ETA: And I cannot believe we are talking about classism in 2015.

Yes. Sometimes that is very accurate.

Actually, what's really sad is that, rather than this being a thread whereby the horrific last moments and deaths of 9 innocent victims are being respectfully grieved and thoughtfully discussed, including a 5-year-old child/survivor who witnessed the horror and lives today because her grandmother shielded her from death... instead, per usual, it has become a thread whereby some feel the overwhelming need to express their feelings of fear, hurt, and disappointment over somebody somewhere somehow possibly insinuating that they MAY harbor racist views. And, over and over again, it's the the same posters on every thread that involves a black victim(s) repeating their same "poor white me" diatribe. To take up space on this thread with these sort of repeated complaints is, IMO, the kind of "tit-for-tat" that sinks to the lowest level of human decency.

Yes. Sometimes that is very accurate.

Sometimes.

But, if I were a Judge and I chose to use these same words to describe a person of "suburban" status... It would be deemed unacceptable and it would not be tolerated. You know it. I know it.

I have seen it happen. I have seen a judge call rich white kids 'entitled punks.' Not only was it tolerated it was applauded. :judge:

above this line was all quoted by you in your post i'm quoting...........

i have just finished reading two pages, to the end of this thread this morning, to see if anyone addressed your post.......no one has so here i am.....

you are perpetuating incorrect information......there is no proof that the magistrate judge knew anyone in the defendant's family nor the defendant himself.......

RE-READ YOUR LINK......it is referring to the incident that occurred over ten years ago that he was reprimanded for, not this case........

i am not going to argue the point of whether it was proper or improper for him to point out the fact that there are victims on BOTH sides of the aisle all due to this racist terrorist murdering monster.......

the point of this post is to STOP THE INCORRECT INFORMATION you seem intent on arguing..........it is just not valid.......isn't there enough disturbing information about this vile human being out there to work with? whether he or his family knew the judge is negligible at best, even if true.........

the point is moot, in any case, as this magistrate judge is no longer a part of this case.......his duties are completed and he is, as they say, history........
