I can't imagine this Roof guy is going to either.

Because he killed nine people in a high-profile crime.

Any other case, he would get away with it, whether that means never being arrested, very low sentence, or being acquitted.

I have been reading along. I really dont have much to offer here. Yet I can say here in Ont. Canada where I live racism is alive and well. However it seems to have spilled over to other races/cultures. Many of our large cities are melting pots. There are rival gangs/turf wars in Toronto and other cities. Our Son is marrying a Gal who is part Japanese. I have learned much from her, her Father and Grandparents of their culture. I embrace it. This horror has been devastating. It reminds me we have not come that far. Not as far as I thought as a Canadian. I am thankful for my life experience. To love and embrace all.

LIVE: Emanuel AME Church holds first service since shooting #CharlestonUnited: http://abcnews.go.com/live

I've been watching the service. It has been so inspirational! If DR hoped to bring the church to its knees or start a race war, he has totally & completely & miserably failed. Just a few minutes ago all the churches in Charleston started ringing their bells in unison. I really hope that DR can hear them from his jail cell so that he has no doubt that his plan was an absolute failure.

just out of control per cnn

Attackers fired semiautomatic weapons at a child's birthday party in Detroit, killing one person and wounding nine others, authorities said.

The service is so beautiful and moving. Such a tribute to love and enduring faith. Thank you Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church for showing us the Way.

Where is the actual hard evidence pointing to the suspect's guilt?

--Have any of the living witnesses come forward to identify Roof as the gunman they saw in the church? No.

--Can the slugs and shell casings found in the church be linked back to the gun seized from Roof via ballistics evidence? Haven't seen it.

--Did they recover gunshot residue (GSR) on Roof''s hands or clothing? Haven't seen it.

--Were his fingerprints found on the gun/mags/ammo? Haven't seen it.

--Did the suspect confess? CNN claims he did, based on two anonymous LE sources. Yeah, anonymous sources, which aren't worth very much. So why don't they show us the videotaped confession? Probably because there is no confession to hear.

--What about the photo stills of the suspect allegedly outside the church and his car at the scene? Those photos could have been from a different time and location, for all we know. And even if they are real, it might be evidence he was there, but that's not evidence he committed a mass shooting.

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!

There is a datestamp on it that correleates with narrative provided. - There are witnesses

There is no evidence thatt McVeigh used a gun. Should we outlaw trucks and fertilizer? No gun was used during the Boston bombings (that came later) Should we outlaw pressure cookers? And while guns were used at Columbine, there were also pipe bombs. Should we also outlaw pipes?
Most of the time, I'm not sure where I stand on gun laws, but I have to say that I don't understand the arguments you're using here. It's as if you're saying that if you can't fix everything, you shouldn't try to fix anything at all.

Say I'm driving down the road and get a flat tire. But I've needed a new muffler for awhile. Since I can't afford to fix the flat AND buy a new muffler, I just abandon my car on the side of the road, even though fixing the flat will make it drive-able?

Or say there's a hail storm and it bangs up my roof. Now it's leaking in my bedroom. I can't afford to hire someone to replace the sheathing, shingles, insulation, drywall, etc, but I can afford a tarp in the meantime. So, do I just ignore the fact that I can do SOMETHING about it, since I can't instantly fix it completely?

Like I said, my views on gun laws are constantly changing, but I just don't understand the "all or nothing" argument.

It is nearly impossible to truly "love your enemies," and when you see it, it is a powerful thing, @MJGerson says.

I think it's about time that people step outside of their BOX of perception so that they can see what is REALLY going on here.
Looks like it's going to be an interesting summer in America

AMEN! I shed quite a few tears listening to the words and music this morning :( I am specifically praying for this precious 5yo boy who will now have to live with what he saw and heard that day. What a burden he will bear! I pray that his family will help him turn his feelings into forgiveness and love, rather than bitterness and hate, as Dylan Roof lived. This child will have to live with these horrific memories and losses and needs our prayers and support.

FYI for anyone in the Charleston area tonight.

http://www.counton2.com/story/29362...-bridge-in-support-of-church-shooting-victims

"We would love the participation of both the Mt. Pleasant and Charleston communities. We will be start on the Mt. Pleasant side of the bridge at 7:45PM and will walk in the pedestrian lane to span over the bridge. We have been asked by safety officials that we do not congregate as a group, that we not lean on the fence and we not walk in the bike lane."

RBBM

He certainly will. Not just now but for many years to come. I hope he will let his family and the church family guide him through. I'm sure he will have some anger issues as he gets older and understands what happened in that Bible study and I pray he will learn to turn those feelings into a positive message to share with others.

RIP to all 9 family survivors who have lost loved ones to this evil act.

YIKES. I hope everyone is cautious. If a very large group does congregate on a bridge span it can be dangerous. I hope they have people guiding and directing so it stays safe for all.

Dylann Roof tried to kill himself during attack, victim's son says

During the attack at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C., on Wednesday night, suspected gunman Dylann Roof tried to kill himself, according to the son of one of the victims.

"He pointed the gun at his head and pulled the trigger, but it went 'click,'" because the chamber was empty, said Kevin Singleton, the son of 59-year-old Myra Thompson.

“His plan was never to leave that church,” Singleton said.

Singleton said he and his family were told the story by Polly Sheppard, 69, one of two adult survivors of the massacre that left nine people dead.

Singleton, 40, a magazine publisher in Charlotte, N.C., said it appeared that Roof’s original intent was to kill the church's well-known minister, the Rev. Clementa Pinckney.

But when the Rev. Daniel Simmons, 74 and retired, grappled with him, he unloaded on Simmons and the others, Singleton said.

Trayvon Martin's parents offer condolences and encourage the public to fight racism.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...536dc2-17a9-11e5-8457-4b431bf7ed4c_story.html

"In their statement, they said the country “must tackle the issue of racism head-on by holding individuals accountable for their murderous acts and not excuse their behavior by quickly labeling them as mentally ill in the media.”

They said to do so “does a terrible injustice to those who are truly mentally ill.”

They make a good point about labeling DR mentally ill. I have an uneasy feeling about this killer's trial. He'll likely get some high priced attorneys who will get him off with an insanity plea.
