I don’t know the condition of the remains and how much they’d be able to tell whether there were a bunch of other tattoos or not but this man went missing in North Carolina last year and part of the physical description includes “GRANDDADDY RIGHT ARM SUN”. I don’t know if they mean the word granddaddy, or if they mean a portrait of his grandfather. Maybe worth looking at?

When I read the description of his tattoos, it sounds like GRANDADDY is on his back though? I did enlarge an image of the sun tattoo, and maybe? The center was colored in and the design appears different, but as you mentioned condition might factor in.

OK, one thing we need to keep in mind is the tattoo on this UID was on the right shoulder. Reposting link from a few pages back:

This guy went missing in that general area (from Davidson Co. NC, ~200 miles north) two years earlier and has lots of tattoos. One on his left shoulder looks a bit like a face. It doesn't say what, if any, are on his right shoulder.

Yep, as I posted several times higher in this thread - I see a lifesaver behind a man. Wouldn't be surprised if it's a memorial tattoo of someone's father or a loved one and they had a connection to the sea (Navy, lifeguard etc).

JMO, the victim is someone from the Filippino community in Norway or another city nearby. They're either a full blooded immigrant or mixed race, but someone who adheres to the community traditions.

A thought -- that sun/lifesaver has seven sets of three crosshatch marks -- but the seven sets aren't even distributed around the ring, and the crosshatch marks aren't all matching or consistently spaced from each other.

This doesn't seem to fit either a standard stylized graphic of a lifesaving ring nor one of the flag of the Philippines.

It makes me wonder whether the tattoo was based on an actual photo of a real thing (whether flag, rescue ring, or something else entirely), rather than a stylized image.

That's what I'm thinking. It might have been a homemade tattoo that hadn't aged as well over the years before his death.
