  1. Billing personal expenses to his clients with his law firm’s credit cards or accounts.
  2. Stealing directly from his relatives and the Hampton law firm his great-grandfather founded in 1910. That included one instance in which Murdaugh accepted a six-figure loan repayment that the firm meant to send to his older brother, Randy.
  3. Surreptitiously stealing money from his own clients’ legal settlements by having his firm — Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth, Detrick — write out disbursement checks to the local Palmetto State Bank and then having an accomplice there, ex-bank CEO Russell Laffitte, convert those checks for Murdaugh’s personal use.
  4. Stealing client money through a fraudulent personal bank account Murdaugh created in 2015 and disguised to look like a financial firm.

He was so brazen it’s just unbelievable. I am aware of course these allegations stents proven in court yet.

Live today for the 2pm EST hearing

Usually Matney uses a cell phone to stream hearings, and the quality is horrible. Hopefully this one will be better. Starts at 2pm ET

Without his handcuffs and shackles, Murdaugh is sitting at the table taking notes. Bobbing his head a bit and shaking his right leg. Also covering his face at times.

I don’t worry about the shackles thing since I know us chubby mid aged men aren’t the most athletic specimens around. He ain’t going nowhere.

From the live hearing -- good to know that AM's blood-spattered clothing collected did not disappear from evidence as alleged earlier.

Samples cut from the clothing and used for testing were consumed (destroyed) during testing. Can't retest.

The defense argues they can't retest, and the remainder never sent to the testing lab is of no forensic value to the defense.

Defense alleges no evidence of Paul's DNA on AM's clothing.

The defense wants an evidentiary hearing to argue photoshopped evidence, determine if the consumption of the spattered sample was intentional, etc.
_________

I really have trouble understanding Dick Harpootlian who can't seem to express anything in a straightforward manner! The circular arguments from his mouth are so frustrating! MOO

My guess is we are getting a preview of the State's opening statement right now. He's a good storyteller and kind of reminds me of the Halderson prosecutor. He was a great storyteller too.

Waters says Murdaugh started stealing money from clients in 2011 despite making six figures plus calling it a “broken chain.” Says he also borrowed millions from his father, Russell Laffitte, PSB and Laffitte’s father but still wasn’t enough.

Notes from the State:

State Grand Jury Subpoenas being issued in Spring 2021 on boat incidents. He has no money, plaintiff's demanding restitution order the accounting of AM's financial records. People demanding answers, AM like a hamster on a wheel.

On June 10th is all comes to a head. His Law firm PMPED demands the $792K needs an answer right now. Gets more money from PSB to cover debts. With the deaths of MM and PM he is granted sympathy and no one is asking the hard questions.

In early Sept best friend confronts him of $192k missing funds, this time he is 'shot on the side of the road'. Another way to avoid confrontation.

Murdering MM and PM allowed him to escape accountability that he has never had to face in his entire life. The day of reckoning was upon him.

He sure is.

And I'm not humored that he can't search a database -- citing technology is beyond him (more like beyond his ego). So he's incapable of using word search on Adobe? Pfft...

Is the State showing its hand laying out its case now?

Griffin in Motion of Bill of Particulars: SC Does Not Recognize this Motion under current jurisprudence.

The most important part of that motion is how is all his actions relevant. The state told them his motive and they are satisfied. Defense is satisfied with the State's response.

Arguing the acid test of logical reasoning for BOP.

Judge deeming the motion of BOP moot.

Judge agreeing to AM no shackles. Might influence media and potential juror.

  • #777
If State of SC doesn't recognize motions for prosecution to provide a bill of particulars, why did prosecution comply with defense's motion?

Essentially state’s motive for Alex Murdaugh is he killed Paul and Maggie Murdaugh to delay unraveling of financial crimes that had been building over the last 11 years. Then orchestrated the roadside shooting to further shift focus away from himself in the financial crimes.

Griffin says states theory that Murdaugh murdered his wife and son to distance himself from any financial investigations but ultimately planted himself in the middle of a murder investigation doesn’t make sense.

Is it just me or does Griffin and Harpoot look like bumbling clowns in this hearing? Completely not the sharp, top notch responses I expected from them.

The Judge made it clear that he was not endorsing or setting precedence regarding the BOP as it isn't recognized in SC, but that the State provided it freely and the Defense was satisfied. WTAH?
