Can someone tell me who got the phone open with their own software and was it an IPhone?
From today's third and fourth witnesses:

Third witness: Paul David McManigal

McManigal is currently a sergeant with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. He's assigned to the U.S. Secret Service cyber-fraud taskforce as a digital forensic examiner.

[..]

McMangial said he also tried to unlock Paul Murdaugh's iPhone 11 on June 9. He could not unlock it, however.

[..]

Fourth witness: Jonathan VanHouten

VanHouten is currently a civilian who works for the U.S. Secret Service. He is a former investigator with the Columbia Police Department, where he was a taskforce officer with the Secret Service.

VanHouten said he used a tool called Cellbrite Premium to unlock Paul's phone, which was necessary to get to the data to encrypt it. He was able to open it in March of 2022 and he testified that the phone's data was not wiped.

Don't feel bad. I came across an illustration of the crime scene from the early days after the murders that were incorrect. IIRC, they were from Fitsnews. They did show MM's body being in a different location, farther away from the hangar and dog pens. Assume it was error due to their source not having accurate information.
Since Fitsnews seemed to be the only media reporting about the case -- albeit details from unnamed sources, and reinforcing the details with a popular podcast, I'm afraid many assumed the information as fact.

I'm recalling they also reported that it was AM who took his dad to the hospital on 6/7 which also appears bogus.

Fortunately, I soon hit the paywall and stopped reading at Fitsnews! MOO

This group text by John Marvin makes sense to me since I believe JMM was the party that drove his dad to St Joseph Hospital located in Savannah, GA (about 90 miles from Moselle). This trip to hospital goes back to John Marvin allegedly trading vehicles with PM on 6/7, date of the murders. MOO

ETA: And back to the importance of appearances for this dynasty, I truly believe that the senior Murdaugh most likely passed at St Joseph's about 48 hours later, and not at home as widely reported.

Now that is interesting. I thought by just using his date of birth was too simple. But the fact that he had to use a tool necessary to encrypt it. Now that his really makes sense.

I think this cell phone data is a lot more detailed than AM could have counted on! MOO.
