The state’s 54th witness is state grand jury forensic accountant Carson Burney. We previously heard from him when he testified in with the jury excused.

I will tweet updates from Burney's testimony if he says anything new or revelatory.

Burney steps down for the witness stand briefly. We are heading to lunch. Cross-examination when we get back.

There was a good exchange at the end of the state’s questioning. Prosecutor Johnny Ellis James Jr. asked Burney if Murdaugh on 6/7/21 had the $792K he needed to pay back Chris Wilson. “He did not.” Did he have $500,000 to give to Gloria Satterfield’s sons? “He did not.”

Edited: added a tweet

Why is the state bouncing back to the financials? They go from pathologist to dog feeder to forensic accountant. Why is their presentation so disjointed?
Could just be availability of the witness.

I am way behind today….watched the interview last night.
I’m pretty sure AM says MM was at Moselle Sunday night. With Edisto about an hr away, maybe she was just ‘commuting…going out there to supervise the renovations and coming back at night. That would somewhat undercut the ‘lure’ narrative.

Or maybe she just headed there on Monday and after getting the call about FinL…headed back…though not happy to do so…again, not ‘lured.’

AM got three big emotional hits that day…the confrontation st work, news his Father was dying, and bad news about the civil trial. He must have been on emotional overload. This brings me back to an old theory of mine.
At the start of the case, learning of PM’s abusive nature toward his GF…I wondered if he was modeling behavior he saw at home. Was AM a “Timmy” at times too? Did MM accept it as a tradeoff for a comfortable life?

I wondered, with no proof, if AM slapped or pushed MM around when stressed or drunk. If so, if there ever was a night in his life when AM was stressed, that particular night would be at the top.

I wonder what happened at that dinner. They sure did not head out to visit RMIII. So plans changed? Why? Did he really go to sleep…or did they both go to the kennels to get away from him? But maybe he followed them, still consumed by anger, rage, and self-pity?

Maybe the killings were not planned…but a spontaneous reaction that an abuser might have…to the most stressful day of his life? After he shot them, did he go to see his Mother because he planned to go back and kill himself? But by then, decided on Plan B.

I do believe he is truly grieving in that interview. But that fits…abusers are often very sorry afterwards. No proof, of course, just meanderings of my mind.

So he stole some money. Ok. But, what evidence, other than gun shot residue on his hands which could have come from the shotgun he held as police arrived, paints him as a murderer?

Surely, there was insurance and an umbrella policy to cover any loss due to boating.

The housekeeper. Was it a life insurance policy or a claim on behalf of the sons against his homeowners insurance?

All vehicles left on property at Moselle were unlocked with the keys in them.
Sounds typical to me. In spite of alleged threats to PM, the family was never in fear of intruders at Moselle. JMO

And be vigilant about your post-surgery icing today @BUF.

Outside of the obvious crimes he's committed, we really haven't heard many people say much bad about AM which I have found interesting. I was waiting for people to say he had a temper, etc... but most of it has been the opposite. I'm still having a hard time with the motive being his financial world crumbling. Wouldn't he be getting ready to inherit obscene amounts when his father passed? Even add in the Mallory Beach stuff and I'm still perplexed that minutes after that Snapchat video, a switch turns and he ruthlessly murders his own son & wife.

The amount of money he stole vs. his lifestyle still don't align with me. I'm not saying he's innocent, I just feel there is more to this story but that's just me.

The cellphone video Paul took, at the kennels, seconds before the murders.... with AM's voice on the video, is pretty damning. Just one of the things anyway...

I'm surprized there's no headstones.
I am too. Seems her family would have taken care of that since the M's haven't. I wonder if there is a headstone on Handsome's grave? But didn't I read that Maggie and Paul were cremated? Maybe the markers are not even relevant.

The prosecution wanted to show AM washed off after the murders by talking about how meticulous this guy always put the hose back, but it really only means the hose was out and about after the murders.
The defense wanted to disprove AM washed off by showing the hose was already out At 8:44pm, but it only proves the hose was pulled out earlier than the murders. Doesn’t show anything about what was done with the hose minutes later.
Seems both sides stretching things a little.
Seems like a wash…pun intended.

If AM carried a pistol in his car why'd he have to go up to the house to grab a weapon? I don't recall anyone testifying LE found a firearm in AM's vehicle.
I have a feeling this gun might also be missing. I think it may have later been used during the fake suicide for hire. Cousin Eddie alleges he got rid of the weapon wrestled away from AM. MOO

I’m kinda disappointed we are back with a financial witness.

A lot of numbers have been tossed out so I might have missed it but is there a more definitive time of death? I know there is speculation and I may have missed it but it could be far longer than seconds. Prosecutors started this trial saying between 8:30 and 10:06 and the coroner stated 9-9:30

Emotional Buster Murdaugh visits slain mother and brother's gravesites
So, the article says that MD was believed to have been killed first, but I thought it was the other way around.
I know the Daily Mail isn't the most reliable of sources but....
