There were 437 checks so plenty of paper trail

I mean it’s convenient for him to claim he blew it all on personal drug use

I believe he gave the guy over 2m. The question is why. I guess we’ll find out in that trial.

I think AM is trying to muddy up the names of people who have substantial dirt on him in the interview with DH/police. That way he can do damage to their credibility in advance. One of them is on the list of witnesses for the murder trial, and I think she knows something important. It is total speculation on my part. Maybe the "He is up to something" quote.

I have been struggling to find the right metaphor for how AM conducts his close relationships with family, friends, co-workers, CES. I feel like every relationship in his life has an expiration date. He is able to lavish these people with his attention and superficial charm, knowing that it won't last forever.

On the expiration date, he extracts maximum usage out of the person and then discards them. People who still trust AM just have not reached their expiration date, yet, and for some reason, they are not seeing the pile of wreckage of AM's other victims. They are still in his bubble.

He is also able to hush up any public talk about his crimes through power, intimidation, manipulation, and the art of BS.

He'll bring you close so he can repurpose you and mine you for his needs, and then he'll leave you like a pile of useless rubble. What bewilders me is how his intimate circle does not see the pattern until it is too late. It is like they don't see the weird extractor claws pop out until it is their time.

He should be on the cover of psychopath magazine.
Great summary! It’s a classic description of a narcissist. I love the way you used the phrase “expiration date”, which is very true. Charm, use and discard.

I think the 50k per week claim is just so he can pretend the money is gone.
Yes, and also embellish how this (IMO recreational) user, -- had such a powerful addiction it controlled his life, as an explanation of why he started stealing funds from clients and his firm. JMO

I could almost see the defense using this Roadside Incident to say that Alex was not capable of trying to cover up a double murder because he was so sloppy trying to pull off this ridiculous "attempted suicide".

Wow, I wasn’t expecting all this evidence by SLED regarding the ”flat tire/suicide” situation and subsequent rehab. This case just keeps growing and growing, so much information for the jury to absorb!
Another great movie title…Flat Tire/Suicide.

I don't see it as bumbling but it could have been. I believe CES carefully laid the barrel of the gun pointing upward against the back of his skull and pulled the trigger. I think this would create the crease-burn superficial wound as seen in the following pics.
Alex Murdaugh did not show signs of visible head injury during Thursday bond hearing

jmo...
Agreed it was a planned grazing shot but I see these two as clowns at this point thinking that ether could have pulled it off without it coming to light. So with that note I add those big ole red noses and some balloons lol.

Yes, $1 per mg but IF he was going thru that many pills he would be getting a steep discount. There is definitely something else going on there.

To play devil's advocate -- He should get a discount buying lots in bulk, but if he only had one connect, and they see some dorky old white man then they may have inflated the price. If he had paid an astronomical above market price once, a dealer may have opened the faucet and continued to charge that astronomical amount seeing a sucker who was willing to pay it without questioning the amount.

I think gambling and trafficking. When AM went to jail JM took Buster to Vegas for the weekend.

Let's not forget that hiring sex workers isn't cheap either.

He may have been sharing his oxy and buying these workers other gifts.

It wouldn't be the first time a person has become infatuated with hired help.

IMO Alec had zero intention of dying that day.

And what in the holy Ozarks are you hiding if you're willing to cop to a $50,000 a week payment to your supplier to keep it hidden?

AM smells.

Really? Only a buck for illegal oxy?

Maybe this was just defense posturing for the alleged $50K week habit but somewhere I read AM was paying about $30/ea. pill. MOO
30 a pill would not be crazy.
He may have also been adding extra in order to keep the subject matter quiet.

Good pts. Glad you posted. But really I wasn't in just judging AM's current "hyper" behavior but also the way people who knew him for years described him-- always in a rush, frenetic, loud, flights of ideas, difficulty concentrating....that doesn't sound like someone with a heavy opioid habit (& sufficient supply) to me. Sure, he could have other mental issues but I think talking about those is against WS TOS. And even if he did, I'd think $50K/wk (or even a more realistically-priced habit) would calm him down, a purported reason opiates appeal to those with Bipolar I and "upper" type drugs appeal to other groups.

Agree and would like to add that when talking about his drug use/habit we need to include alcohol along with the pills. He was just as much a heavy drinker as he was a drug user and I believe those two things together would have a big effect on his behavior. jmo

I feel like the state worked and worked stressing stuff but has never tied it together. Kind of a crap shop.

I know a lawyer that had a drink called a "cocktail " whiskey and pills. Did it all the time and function perfect.

Not credible. I know I wouldn't believe anything he said even if there were truth to it.

He even said AM was his attorney after the shooting.
I'd have to see him on the stand testifying to decide if he's being truthful or not. How he answers direct questions with the jurors a few feet away.

Although addiction is in DSM-V and it's nearly unavoidable to discuss in this case, IMO. Addiction is mental illness in my opinion (former professor at UCLA's Neuropsychiatric Institute). Anyway, I won't discuss it further, but I will add that he sounds like what we called a Weekend Warrior (mostly professionals in one of our studies, btw - mostly doctors). When they need lots of energy, they don't use. But they need to come down sometime and rest. I'm trying to avoid most DSM labels - but addiction is right there in the book.

He stole so much more than he gave Eddie. What kind of crazy debt took the rest...property mortgages?
