I don't think this will benefit the defense at all. It is not really believable that Alex hired him to kill him (especially since there is no payment for that). I think that man was set up just like every other person in Alex's life. The only person that knew the plan was Alex.

This shows that Alex's go to for getting out of jams is contriving plans. He didn't own up to this until he had no other option at all. Then he has a drug problem and goes to rehab and suddenly wants to come clean about this.

He scammed so many people out of money in his work life.. lied and stole, and it worked for years.

His initial reaction after the boating accident was to be at the hospital trying to talk to all the kids to get their story straight to benefit his son (really to benefit himself and his $$).

So having this come to light only shows even more the true nature of how Alex thinks and operates. He was not concerned with finding the murderer of his wife/son. He was concerned with clearing Paul's name and setting up a scenario that would point to a young person that he could say see the same people that killed my family did this to me.. and then it's assumed he was saying it's the same people seeking revenge of the boat incident.

It's clear as day and the defense attempting to muddy waters by maybe suggesting this man that was "hired" to shoot Alex could have also been the one to shoot Maggie/Paul? Nope doesn't work. It also doesn't work that it's some random drug dealers either because how would they even know where to go, where to find the guns, who would or wouldn't be there.. either way Alex would be involved with any of those scenarios.
Agreed. You're the voice of reason.

Let's not forget that hiring sex workers isn't cheap either.

He may have been sharing his oxy and buying these workers other gifts.

It wouldn't be the first time a person has become infatuated with hired help.

JMO

If he's taking THAT many opiates his ummm 'performance' would be difficult.

I think the Judge may have a hot date. :) He said last week that today was going to be an early day.

And i was thinking about the time roughly 4:00 and Harpootlian indicated it take them past 4:30. So I will see how long he takes.

If the man wanted to commit suicide, he could have taken a hand full of oxycodone.

IMO, AM only wants other people dead so he can live peacefully with all the money from other people he has stolen over the years.

30 a pill would not be crazy.
He may have also been adding extra in order to keep the subject matter quiet.

JMO

How many pills a day would an addict take?

  • #507
Agree and would like to add that when talking about his drug use/habit we need to include alcohol along with the pills. He was just as much a heavy drinker as he was a drug user and I believe those two things together would have a big effect on his behavior. jmo

Specifically, it's amazing he's still alive. I mean, if he really were paying, say, $100 per pill (because his dealer gouged him and he knew no street dealers), that's still 500 pills a week! Even if he was using as currency to pay people for other favors, that's still a heckuva lot.

Do we know which opiate it was??

JMO, but he looks pretty good for such a longterm drug and alcohol abuser who is currently...sober.

There were 437 checks so plenty of paper trail
Never heard of Anyone paying for Drugs with a Check. Would be Nuts, as huge paper trail. No Drug Dealers do that. Cash is everything.

Does Alex Murdaugh have the record for the most police video and audio interview footage ever?

There have been numerous other stories of other drug dealers getting busted for taking personal checks listed in several of the previous AM threads. No idea which ones. I know far more stupid drug dealers than smart ones.

Although addiction is in DSM-V and it's nearly unavoidable to discuss in this case, IMO. Addiction is mental illness in my opinion (former professor at UCLA's Neuropsychiatric Institute). Anyway, I won't discuss it further, but I will add that he sounds like what we called a Weekend Warrior (mostly professionals in one of our studies, btw - mostly doctors). When they need lots of energy, they don't use. But they need to come down sometime and rest. I'm trying to avoid most DSM labels - but addiction is right there in the book.

In my medically uneducated opinion, there is a whole spectrum of DSM labels AM mostly qualifies for.

Yes, and also embellish how this (IMO recreational) user, -- had such a powerful addiction it controlled his life, as an explanation of why he started stealing funds from clients and his firm. JMO
A lame excuse. <modsnip> very fidgety...but though I am sure he used some drugs, I don't see him being able to function in detailed matters, as he has, as well, all that abuse would show on him-the way it does on Cousin Eddie-There's a guy who looks the part. He's obviously a big drinker as well, just like at least Paul. No clue about Buster. Paul's ex girlfriend, who I hope will testify, but no clue, said Alex was aggressive when he drank, just like Paul. Money does not buy happiness, but it sure can buy influence.

I am sorry if these questions have already been answered. I've been watching most days of the trial and I had two questions in the back of my head that I never heard answers to.

1. Do we actually know for a FACT that AM had a drug addiction? Both prosecution and defense admit that AM is a congenital liar. Could he be lying about the drug addiction? Is there any debate about this?
2. Did the prosecution present evidence of where AM's phone was at the time of the murders? Yes, there is the Snapchat video from PM but what about the data from AM's phone? What does his phone show? How did I miss this piece of data?
1. Not sure if an addiction was confirmed but he did go to a drug rehabilitation center for an opioid addiction.

2. AM/No log activity - He said Murdaugh's phone did not show any activity from around 8 p.m. until just after 9 p.m. when he called his wife twice before driving to Alameda to visit his mother who has Alzheimer's disease. Murdaugh returned home just after 10:00 p.m. and called 911 to report the killings, Waters said.

This may be a stupid question but can't the defense call Eddie Smith? There's been so much talk about the prosecutor potentially calling him and even DH response a couple of days ago, something along the lines of "I would love that"

He's listed under the States Witness or Both on page 3. I didn't know if there was a different formality to doing that?

He stole so much more than he gave Eddie. What kind of crazy debt took the rest...property mortgages?
Gambling? Off shore accounts? Pay for play? MOO

Why are AM eyes not swollen and red after days of supposedly crying? Mine do. They almost swell shut. I think he is acting and no tears. How can his family stand defending him?

If he's taking THAT many opiates his ummm 'performance' would be difficult.

Probably.
Doesn't mean that he avoided trying.
Earlier testimony from his law partners indicated he often didn't show up for work until the end of the day.
Some people will pay workers just to listen to them.
Customers feel that they can be themselves in the presence of these paid people. AM had to be a certain type of person when with family and colleagues.

Burner phones have been mentioned as well, and no documentation for that. One thing after another. Poor Jury having to sit and deal with this. Ugh. I can take potty and snack breaks, but no such luck for them.
