Will he take the stand during his book smuggling trial?

Alex testified today that he had a bag of pills in his shorts pocket the night of the murders when he was being interviewed in the car with agent Owen.

Owen then asked for his clothes and followed Alex into his room to change and hand him his clothes.

Will Waters have Owen back on rebuttal to ask if he saw Alex stash his bag of pills while changing?

At the time of the murders there were 2 people living in the Almeda house: a prominent ex-solicitor who was dying and a woman with late stage Alzheimers. Maybe Alex believed that it was unlikely that local LE would press the matter and try and search there given who lived there. JMO.

Owen testified that he gave Alex privacy when he was changing his shorts. Not sure if that just means that he looked away. JMO.

After today's testimony from Alex, I'm thinking his pills may have played a bigger part than I thought before. I think there was some truth in what he was saying about his timing for going down to the kennels.

Alex said that Paul left while he and Maggie were finishing dinner. Then after they ate, Maggie asked Alex to go to the kennels with her. He said no because he didn't want to get hot after he'd just showered so Maggie went without him. Then he admitted that within minutes of Maggie leaving, he changed his mind and left for the kennels.

What if Maggie and/or Paul found a stash of pills while Alex was showering and removed them without him knowing. Then when Maggie left for the kennels, he went for his pills. Minutes later, when he realized they were missing, he went in to a rage, hopped on the golf cart and went to the kennels to get them back. He may have confronted Paul and killed him because he was furious his pills were missing. He was furious with Maggy too. That may explain why he admitted he tried to turn Paul over (because he was looking for his pills).

The evidence showed he lied and lured maggie to the property that night. She even noticed he was acting fishy herself as she said in her text message to her friend while she was driving there. This was premediated, he is a monster.

I’m watching, for the first time, “Closing Arguments“on Court TV.

So far I like this guy, Vinny Politan.

I am reminded anew of what a jerk this Murdaugh is, but I’m still disappointed in the cross-examination.

Murdaugh is a proud, proud man, IMO. I don’t understand how he was permitted to scold and to lecture the prosecutor during cross.

Also, IMO, he takes pride in how long he was able to pull the wool over the eyes of everyone in his orbit. He didn’t want to be caught in his web of lies, but since that’s done, he is reveling in it now. Good ol‘ boy, regaling his captive audience.

A small town in SC is a very different culture than where I live. I am trying to fathom how he is a big fish in a small pond and the jury might find him credible. Where I am, (NYC), I think a jury would want to knock him off his perch.

If I were on this jury, I would not be able to get past the lie about the kennels. An innocent man would have NO REASON to lie about that, not if he wants LE to immediately search for the “real killer.”

That, and no apparent fear that a killer is on the loose and apparently after his family. I couldn’t get past that.

Total southern thing. I'm a transplant from a northern state and have been living in The South for well over 30 years. Whenever I return up there for a visit with my friends and family it usually takes me a few weeks before I stop myself with the " Yes, mam, No man, Yes Sir, No Sir " with everyone! Same with Ya'll instead of You All.

One of my friend's mother is about 20 or so yrs older than me and I always say " Yes, Mam, No Mam" to her in regular conversationI've known her for most of my life. She called me out on it one day. " It makes me feel old" she says! It's all done in a playful way on her end but I did notice I do it all the time. It's just one of those regional things. There is nothing good or bad behind it.
I'm from the deep South and think of it as being polite/courteous. I've been fortunate to travel the world and try to be polite to all people I come in contact.

AM and his family! Awful people to those kids! Thank heavens for Mark Tinsley!

Maybe - but didn't the evidence show that Maggie's phone travelled WITH Alex's phone until it suddenly departed ways with the Suburban at the exact spot where it was eventually found?

Please, someone, correct me if I've gotten this completely wrong.

TIA. IMO.
No, I don’t think so. The phone data shows orientation changes, attempted camera access, incoming calls, texts, and steps, but no tower ping info after 7:50pm in Walterboro SC. They used the “find my iPhone” app to locate her phone (June 8). Her location settings were set to “only while using apps.”

Unless I missed something, which is possible.

I hope you're right.
I agree with letting him ramble to hang himself...but it's been going on for a while so it makes me feel like am is running the show. I know in my mind that's probably not the dealio...but it sure appears that way. And I am aware that a great many people are not intuitive enough to discern the difference.
Take another example. What if Jodie Arias was allowed to run the show - given all the latitude given to AM?
One could argue that she could talk her way out of anything - not to most people, but to perhaps 10% of people.
Enough to impact a verdict.
Juan Martinez couldn't risk that, so that's why he behaved the way he did.

Not a Southerner myself - but all that faux politeness, rephrasing the prosecutor's questions to fake attention to detail and mimic honesty, interrupting the prosecutor to correct his accuracy, all with that sickening Southern genteel affect - I just don't know whether the jury of people with similar sympathies will see those behaviors as signs of Southern honor. I don't know. The whole presentation has baffled me. We need Judge Chamberlain Haller to cut through the BS.

I need to start planning some normal human being activities for when this trial is over. I will have lots of free time then.

Will the jury be told about the book smuggling who and what?

I am just not sure how anyone can look at the facts and think he is innocent...real life happens in seegments and he absolutely was the killer. NOBODY showed up in 2 minutes who knew Paul and Maggie were there and shot them with missing guns. RIDICULOUS THEORY
