They did not "drop" him from the suit. They settled, and got some money in the deal. If they hadn't settled, there would likely have been no money available from any Mardaugh family members per this article: https://www.thestate.com/news/local/crime/article271039467.html
If the Beach family has pursued their suit, all of the money would have gone to lawyers. With the settlement, Buster, Conner Cook, and the Beach's all got a cut.

They also likely realized Buster doesn't have any money anyway. The whole lawsuit is now aimed at Parker paying for the Mardaugh's action.

Actually Alex and Parkers are still involved, but you are correct, they did 'settle' and drop the charges going forward against Buster.

Do you really think so? I would think that nearly everyone within three counties has either seen the Netflix documentary or had conversations with others who have.

Since the law firm has been destroyed, Moselle will be sold to pay off AM's misdeeds, I wonder what this remaining power will be based on. I think there surely must be a large number of people who are relieved to see this corrupt family fall.

Exactly. Listen to his testimony on that. Asked how many pills he took a day.. not a straight answer. Well how many did you take at a time and when, what's a normal day like.. 60 pills.. he said some days more than that, some days not that many. He was doing pill math.. well 30mg and if you have 100 it's 3000mg blah blah blah.

A true remorseful addict would say, I woke up and needed pills right away. I took 5 or 6 or insert whatever here.. then by lunch I needed more or I did xyz.. it's not difficult to explain what your habit looked like.

He didn't/couldn't/wouldn't. I can't believe a functioning addict that supposedly no law partners or family new except Maggie and Paul.. would sometimes not take as many.. wouldn't you have withdrawal at work? It's all just fishy.

I think he was thinking about it for a long time. I don't think he was actively planning it that long, but every time he had to look at financials or read something from the boat case, he was thinking if Paul was gone or even if some accident happened to Paul the sympathy would swing his way vs this lawsuit being on them. I really think as time went on and he realized the criminal charges were not going away and Maggie just wanted to settle about the boat case, but she didn't know about his dirty deeds stealing from others so he can't just settle.. he had to much money out and stolen and he was not having it. Not going to have to open his financials to be exposing all his bad deeds. He still thought he could get out of those financial bad deeds if he could get the boat case to go away. I think as it go closer to judgement day for Alex his wild ideas became more reality for him. Drugs played a part, but I think the main concern for him was exposing his financials and he saw the boat case as the reason for this problem. He wasn't lying when he said the reason they were dead was the boat case only it was HIM who caused that, not some random vigilante.

This makes a lot of sense to me. Opioid addicts don't just sorta need pills one day and need them more the next and less on day 3. That's not how addiction works; people build up tolerance and need more over time. If you read about why the OxyContin recommended dosage created addicts (apart from people using opioids, it's because it was supposed to last 12 hours but as people developed tolerance, it wore off faster and faster so people told more. And addicts are usually either puffed up with denial or full of shame. He's not embarrassed about anything. Not stealing or lying or being supposedly addicted or failing to "save" his wife and son who were murdered while he supposedly took a nap. There is snuffling and tears but not anguish about what happened.

No, the Beach Family graciously dropped Buster from their civil lawsuit. He has not been reinstated into USC Law Program

I believe AM tried to pay Busters way back in to USC. There was conversation about it in the jail calls.

We mostly agree. But I do disagree on AMs IQ. I don't think anyone with any intelligence at all would even for a moment that killing their wife and son would buy them some sort of reprieve.


I don't think they backed off their lawsuit. The one lawyer said he was all set to go to court over at least one of the fraud cases.

Either way, this guy is screwed. I just think there are probably some other characters here that need to be brought to justice too.

You may be right about his IQ. The murders did buy him time and would have been successful in achieving time to right the ship except for the check. What sunk his ship though was Alex accidentally left a check out on his desk in early September that a fellow law firm member found. They knew it was a check that he should not have had and that started the inquiry into his stealing from clients. maybe others involved I highly doubt it. I think there would be evidence of that if it were true, AM certainly surrounded himself with seedy, low life characters. If somebody else were involved, I have no doubt that Alex would try to pin the murders on them if he could without incriminating himself. moo
